I am looking for advice on where to live and how to figure out where to live in the bay

My situation: I am joining a company that has an office in both Mission Bay (SF) and Sunnyvale. My team is based in the Sunnyvale office. I am supposed to be in the Sunnyvale office fo the first few months, and then will discuss with my manager an arrangement that would work where I would have to work in Sunnyvale for 1x a week but then could work out of the SF office for the other 2 in person days (3 total). The SF office is much nicer and I would much prefer to live in SF, as I am a 22M, enjoy having a social life, but also care about saving money and living a peaceful quiet life. I also won't have a car (as least not right off the bat but would consider getting one if it made sense). The company also has a shuttle between the two offices that takes about 40-50 mins each way. Currently I have an Airbnb for the first 3 weeks when I get there in Sunnyvale.

My question: Where should I realistically live? Should I try to find a short term rental for a couple months in Sunnyvale and then move up to SF? Should I just commit to living in Sunnyvale for a year? I realize that once I get there and check out the vibes I can make a much better decision but I am worried that if I don't set up apartment showings before I actually get there I will be frantically trying to find a place to live.

What websites could I even use to find a short term rental? Would it be easier to just hop around different airbnbs till I make a decision? What's the easiest way to find trustworthy roommates too?

I am relocating out of the area soon and looking for someone to take over the rest of my lease on my apartment at The Standard in Willow Glen (515 Lincoln Ave). It is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath, plus a den layout, and my target move out date is August 10th.

The lease runs through November 23rd, 2026, and you will have the option to renew it directly with the leasing office if you want to stay longer. This is a great setup if you just need a short term place or want to try out the area without locking yourself into a full 12 month contract right away.

I currently live in Atlanta, GA, and am looking to move to SF/Oakland in like a month. Let me tell you that I was fooled into thinking that finding decent housing was going to be an easy task. I thought moving to the Bay meant more options, more people, but apparently tf not. I made a post the other day, asking for advice on finding decent housing/roommate as a WOC (blk) and got a few decent replies and encouragement but still haven’t found anything that suits me. Apparently everyone is okay with living in homes with hoards of people and damn near everyone comes with some sort of pet. I thought Oakland would be easier than SF because I guess less demand and cheaper prices but my search has proven to be unfruitful on FB, Roomies, SpareRoom etc.

Is there something wrong with my standards or budget? I didn’t think it would be so hard to find someone (female, non-negotiable) without a pet to move with. My budget is like 1800-2300 which I felt was decent for what I wanted and thats WITH a roommate. Am I aiming too high, not looking hard enough or in the wrong places? I know school is coming up, will more options be available? I’m not even sure if I want to move here anymore and am becoming more discouraged as the days pass and my move date comes closer :(
