Work & Housing Is there K-Shape economy in your social circles?

You probably have heard of the K-Shaped economy...wondering if you experience this first hand. In your social circles, are you see some people really struggle while others thriving? Or is your social circle homogenous and everyone is either struggling or thriving?

Traffic, Trains & Transit The SF Marathon is this weekend - here are the road closures to look out for:

Post image
129 Upvotes

The SF Marathon tends to take over major portions of the city to create space for the runners and their fans — meaning that the weekend of July 25-26 will be tricky for both drivers and pedestrians to move around the city, with the multiple road closures and reroutes.

The SF Marathon website breaks down which city streets will be closed for races at what time, along with some recommended detours.

There will be closures along The Embarcadero, Fisherman’s Wharf and in the Marina District. However, rest assured that vehicle traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge, which is on the route, will remain open in both directions throughout the marathon.

Many SF Muni lines will also be rerouted due to marathon weekend events.

You can follow SFMTA’s thorough guidance on its official advisory page, which will be the best place to find regular updates leading up to the event. SFMTA also has a page dedicated to Saturday events.

For more information, check out our full guide here.

Food, Shopping & Services Looking for an "Idea Store"

As the title says. There was a store in a town I moved from that had a collection of just about everything you could need to make something. All donated - including yarn, fabric, stamps, paint, random buttons and pins.

I want to know if there's a store similar to this. Not just any thrift store because of course you can sometimes find these things there, but they mainly sell clothes and home goods.

Work & Housing Bay Area homeless shelter shortage: Why more beds alone won’t solve homelessness

Our reporters Luis Melecio-Zambrano and Ethan Varian have the third part of their series examining homelessness in the Bay Area. It looks at the massive shelter shortage. About one-third of the homeless population is sheltered in the region and that's lower than most of big cities in the country.

Here are the other parts of the series
Part 1:  One force sets the Bay Area’s homelessness crisis apart: rent
Part 2: Why homelessness hits Bay Area cities harder than suburbs

Scenes from the Bay Coast side camping sights near the bay area

So, I have been wanting to do a few little camping trips along the California coastline and was wondering if anyone had any insight on good cheep spots. It only be a single night thing, in my mind I'd just park make some dinner, enjoy the evening and pack up in the morning and leave. Either just cowboy camping or in the back of my car. I know there are some spots a lot further south in California but I'd really like to just be able to get out and have a differently paced evening without spending a ton of money or driving more than a couple hours each way. Does anyone know anywhere that kind of meets up with this criteria? Big note on it being cheep- I am broke =). Id consider just driving the coast till I find a decent turnout but I'd rather have a set destination. Also, pretty sure its illegal and not trying to piss off the CHP. Thank!

Events, Activities & Sports Car scene in SF

Upvotes

What is the car scene like for regular people these days?

When I was younger and had space I used to have fun cars and work on them all the time. As I’ve gotten older I now live in SF and don’t have the space to have cars really be a hobby and have become too responsible to have a project car as my daily driver. I drive a normal, stock car. I’d love to get involved in the car scene but I’m just not sure where I fit in. I’m particularly interested in German cars (vw/audi/porsche) but kind of down with anything.

Does anyone have recs on approachable events/groups/etc? I feel like cars are one area where this is less relevant but I’m 29 yo man for reference.

Dogs are allowed on the trails there. It's one of the quieter parks. It's a lot less crowded than Castle Rock State Park where dogs are not allowed on the trails.

Food, Shopping & Services Peanut Allergy Safe South East Asian Food?

Fellow peanut allergy sufferers - have any of you found safe south east asian food in the bay area? I've never had Thai or Vietnamese food for example, because the peanut cross contamination risk is so incredibly high and my allergy is quite severe.

But it looks so good! I would really like to try Thai and Vietnamese food! Any advice?
