Recently rewatching Lain, I went online to look for resources on understanding its themes or what others thought of it. A frequently mentioned resource online and on Reddit is the blog “Thought Experiments Lain” hosted on cjas.org, but it appears to have gone dark. I found a post dated July 4th, 26 on lainspotting by the author stating it would be down indefinitely. Does anyone have a good backup of the blog or know what happened?

Yallo I’ve been meaning to get into more animes I rlly love the disastrous life of Saiki k, monthly girls nozaki-kun, and mob psycho so any like comedy and slice of life recs are appreciated ^^

Hey! I’m looking for some new anime to watch and would love some recommendations. Here is an idea of what I like and what I’m looking for:

I prefer serious, low-comedy anime with emotionally complex, internally conflicted protagonists, where the story is anchored by a character I can emotionally attach to and follow through psychological or moral progression, and where tone and emotional consequence matter more than mechanics, ensemble structure, or world-building complexity.

I like:
- Serious anime with low comedy and consistent tone (brief comedy is fine if it doesn’t disrupt emotional weight)
- Darker supernatural but still grounded settings centered around character experience (not spectacle-driven)
- A clearly central protagonist who anchors the story emotionally
- Emotionally complex protagonists with clear internal conflict and meaningful psychological or moral progression
- Protagonists who are emotionally intense, conflicted, trauma-shaped, or psychologically unstable in a human and understandable way
- Strong emotional attachment to the protagonist (I need to feel something for them, not just find them interesting)
- Character-driven storytelling where emotional stakes take priority over plot mechanics, power systems, or world-building complexity
- Emotional stakes that come from relationships, identity, personal consequence, or moral choice rather than power scaling or external plot structure
- Mature series like Solo Leveling or Tokyo Ghoul
- Male protagonists preferrably (doesn’t need to be)

I bounce off:
- Protagonists who feel emotionally flat, detached, or difficult to connect with
- Stories without a clear emotional anchor character (e.g., ensemble-focused narratives where no one MC drives the emotional core)
-Comedy-heavy pacing or tonal shifts that weaken seriousness or emotional immersion
- Battle systems where mechanics, power scaling, or structure matter more than emotional consequence
- Absurdist, overly stylized, or exaggerated tonal approaches (ie. JoJo-style presentation)
- Stories where the MC’s emotional journey is unclear, underdeveloped, or not central to the narrative
- “Frame-job” / falsely accused / setup-from-the-start narratives
- Anime that isn’t Korean or Japanese (just a personal preference)

I don’t usually like war dramas or mecha stories. Also I usually steer away from historical, dystopian or apocalyptic settings unless both the plot and characters are compelling enough. It also doesn’t need to be supernatural (though I’d usually prefer it).

Also I’m ok with stepping out of action/shonen series (however, the show does need to have some sort of physical violence). Like I said I just like life-or-death stakes and fighting usually helps with that, but I am 100% down to step out of action and into more psychological shows as long as they still have those life-or-death stakes (that’s not to say a cat-and-mouse game, again like I said I won’t watch an anime just for that. I mean stakes where there is fear of death or life for the characters, and it is shown physically through some sort of violence).

Absolute favorites
- Tokyo Ghoul & Tokyo Ghoul: re ★★★★★ — Tokyo Ghoul is probably the closest thing I've found to my ideal anime. The story stays firmly centered on Ken Kaneki and his psychological and emotional evolution, which is exactly the kind of character-focused storytelling I enjoy. Nearly every major conflict ties back to his identity, relationships, and internal struggles, making almost everything that happens in the show about his internal conflicts and journey. The dark tone, personal stakes, and themes of belonging, morality, and self-acceptance all work extremely well for me. The anime adaptation definitely has flaws, especially in Season 2 and parts of :re where the story becomes rushed, less coherent and too plot-focused, but Kaneki's character arc is so compelling that it remains my favorite anime despite those issues.
- Jujustu Kaisen ★★★★1/2 — Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the few battle shounen that consistently keeps me invested in both its story and characters. What really makes it work for me is Yuji Itadori. His struggles with guilt, responsibility, and the value of human life give the series a strong emotional core. I also appreciate that the show takes its world seriously and rarely lets comedy undercut important moments.
- Devilman Crybaby ★★★★1/2 — Devilman Crybaby is certainly bizarre, gory, and very sexually gratuitous, but it’s one of those stories that sticks with you long after you finish it. What I loved most was the focus on Akira and his relationships, especially with Ryo. Even as the story expands and the stakes become much larger, it never completely loses sight of the characters at the center of it (though I do wish the story had stayed a bit more intimate rather than large-scale).

Other anime I’ve seen and rated to give an idea of what I like (I’ve seen over 70 so I just picked the ones most likely to get recommended):
- Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures ★☆☆☆☆ — hated; too much focus on plot and I did not care at all about a single character in any of the seasons that I watched.
- AOT ★★1/2 — disliked; way too much plot, politics and side characters, way too little focus on Eren
- Fate/zero ★★★☆☆ -- was alright; magical setting story didn't interest me too much though, especially since it's like an ensemble, specifically with no clear MC. It's like “If everyone’s special, no one is.“ -MHA. I dropped it after 4 episodes.
- RE: Zero ★★★☆☆ — was ok; MC reminded me of Blue Exorcist a bit but he was really annoying. I watched to episode 9, and the MC got a bit better but the constantly repeating time-travel story got really old really fast. Also the MC’s actions stayed really frustrating throughout.
- Erased ★★★1/2 — decent but I hate frame-job stories.
- Cyberpunk Edgerunners ★★1/2 -- below average; didnt have any interest after the first episode and found the MC to be pretty annoying. Also had some very overused cliches, which in and of itself isnt a bad thing, but they weren't used in any sort of creative way. Sidenote, not big on sci-fi.
- Monster ★★★☆☆ — started it, realized it was a frame job story so I didn’t finish it (and I’m not going to).

I wanna find a romance anime similar to rascal does not of bunny girl senpai and Charlotte. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I saw it when I was a child with my mom who is a huge anime fan in the 2000s

I never heard an anime opening share the same song with another anime opening, or ending for that matter. I thought I did with Chainsaw man ending 12 and an opening or ending of JJK, but I tried to search it up and apparently it doesn't exist, so it was a Mandela effect, lol. But are there any real openings or endings that share the same song?

I trying to find a good anime that i can get hooked on (not one piece) that is ok for kids to watch. My kids always walk in on me watch an anime then something happens and I have to pause it of turn it off. Any suggestions

Although it could be overly-idealistic at times, Free! is probably one of the most inspiring sports anime out there. My heart was literally pounding every race, especially during the last movie. I find it kind of disappointing that we never got to see Haru win any individual medals on the world level, but I guess him winning the relay instead really drove home the point. I also love how it showed Makoto finding his passion in something other than competitive swimming and finding his purpose. I loved every character so much I wanted them to all tie for 1st 😭. I do feel the final movie should have been a whole season and they rushed it a little, but they managed to get the key story points down and wrap it up beautifully. My withdrawal is so bad right now 😭😭 I have to rewatch Haikyuu again to feel the same rush. If anyone has recommendations I would also appreciate it.

I used to enjoy watching ecchi slop, good times. After reading and watching nozuki ana i just couldn't anymore. The blend between the ecchi and an actual logical and interesting plot hit me so hard that i lost appetite for ecchi slop
