For many girls in N-City, playing the popular social role-playing game Magical Girl Raising Project is as close as they could come to being a real magical girl. However, for some rare players, that dream can become a reality. One such girl is Koyuki Himekawa, who receives a notification one night that she has been selected to become a magical girl, her in-game avatar Snow White.
As Koyuki and other chosen players in the city begin helping those in need, they all receive yet another notification: the admins have decided that they want to reduce the number of magical girls. Whoever collects the least amount of Magical Candies—which are awarded for their magical girl activities—in their competition each week will lose their powers. But when a real-world tragedy happens to the first player that drops out, they are shown the repercussions of losing their abilities. As more participants inevitably lose the competition and more twisted rules are added, the girls soon realize that their "contest" is actually a desperate fight for survival.

Uh, you do realize that you mixed up Magical Girl Raising Project with Yuuki Yuuna is a hero? 🤔
Heck, the main character's first name in MGRP is Koyuki, not Yuuna.

The premise is really good, girls with unique superpowers and superhuman physiques in a battle royale. Can't wait for the sequel. Imo the third and fourth arc are where it really gets good. Praying it gets enough hype to get animated too.

Fantastic mahou shoujo series. I think it gets a bad rep because of some choices the adaptation makes (personally I still think it's quite an enjoyable anime though) and being unfairly seen as a derivative rip-off of Madoka Magica. I think the release of the original light novel is too close to the airing of Madoka to be a copycat series, plus I think both tackle different themes.
Starting with the second arc, which is what the anime in October will be covering, I think it really showcases what makes it stands out from other series it often gets compared to. I hope it does well so we can continue getting more seasons! Arc 3 in particuar is absolutely incredible and begging for its action sequences to be animated.

Some people call this a flawed adaptation of the worst part of the source material (and I’ve probably said that myself), but that’s seriously underselling how great it still is. Essential viewing for anyone interested in the dark mahou shoujo subgenre.
Hopefully the new season that’s airing soon gets more eyes on this series, and gets people to go back and give the original a fairer shake than what it got.
