I’ve started saying ‘question’ at the end of every question I ask my wife then stomping my foot twice. My wife wants me to have an MRI now. She won’t watch the movie.

So I asked my grandma to crochet it to see if she could make this little Earth from the movie for me. She wasn't crocheting anymore, but she asked someone she knew to do it and handed it to me a few days ago. I absolutely fell in love with this little ball and I pick it up all the time. It makes me a bit sad when I show it to some people at work and they have no idea what it is.

While watching the movie, I asked my partner to sew me a yellow jumpsuit and she did! I made the mission patches and built Rocky to complete my Ryland Grace cosplay. I'm really happy with how it all came together and wanted to share here. I have some videos on my socials as well.

I always liked Ryan Gosling. But I never really pegged him for comedy. Maybe a little here and there. But in PHM he REALLY showed his range. He’s got perfect timing and is immeasurably likable. And to think he was mostly acting alone and not off the energy of other actors is quite a feat. It made me want to watch other movies of his. One film I hadn’t seen yet was The Place Beyond the Pines. He’s really great in it. I recommend it - although it’s not a comedy by any means. But he says it’s the best time he’s ever had on a set and he met his wife during the shooting.

Is there any possible explanation why the top of Erid's cloud decks would be that vibrant blue? Rayleigh scattering isnt strong enough for that kind of effect, so it has to be somehow chemical or biological in origin. Bonus points for a guess at the blue rings (Cherenkov radiation????)

I love Rocky and Adrian. These span over a while, my artstyle is super inconsistent. Also it features mark watney who I’ve made a whole AU for with friends (go Rylark!!!!). I took the Grace one more seriously lol, I had to edit some shorts onto my boy. I did it in about 3 hours on Roblox it was very fun!!

After watching the movie multiple times, something struck me. When Grace finally admits he’s not going back to Earth and will die in space, Rocky says “Why didn’t you tell me?” Not “Why you not tell me, question?—as you would expect him to say and is the grammatical structure he uses just before and after this. At first I thought that maybe the phrase was recorded at a later date and the actor forgot how to make Rocky sound like Rocky. But then it made me wonder if it’s intentional. Since there are other references to movies throughout this one, is it a nod to Luke Skywalker’s question at the end of The Empire Strikes Back: “Ben, why didn’t you tell me?” Honestly, I have to go with this explanation otherwise it’s quite a glaring inconsistency.

Tau Ceti: Just under 12 light-years (3.7 parsecs) from Sol. 40 Eri / Omicron2 Eridani: about 16.3 ly (5.0 pc) from Sol. Tau Ceti to Erid: about 10 ly (3.0 pc) from Tau Ceti to Erid.

I also added the CMB cold spot / Eridanus Supervoid because it’s interesting. The cold spot temperature is about 70 micro-Kelvin colder than average but can be up to 140 micro-K colder, the normal range is just 18 micro-K below average. The cold spot is estimated to be 1bil light-years (300 mega-parsecs Mpc = 300million pc) across and 6-10bil light years (1.8 - 3.0 Giga-parsecs Gpc = 3thou-mil pc) away. Meanwhile the Eridani super-void is 1.8bil light years (551.9 pc) across and is about 3bil light-years (919.8 Mpc) from us, for comparison Tau5 and Tau4 Eri in front of it are only about 293 and 300 light years (~90-92 parsec) from Sol respectively.
