POSTING / COMMENTING GUIDELINES FOR THE PORNADDICTION SUBREDDIT

All are welcome here!

If you choose to post or comment here on /r/pornaddiction , please follow these posting / commenting guidelines.

There's a lot here, so let me just start with the TL;DR - Be kind and supportive. Don't spam. Don't post NSFW stuff. Don't be sex-negative.

Please note also that for a community like this, which can attract a lot of trolls and problematic posts, we sometimes need to err on the side of caution with our automoderation tools. That means that posts and comments sometimes go into a queue for manual review, rather than being published immediately. If your post appears to be "removed" at first, the automoderator probably directed it into that queue. It will most likely be approved by a moderator, once we manually review it. Please have patience with that process.

Partners, family, and friends of porn addicts are welcome here! Please be supportive.

Anybody is welcome to post and comment here, as long as the content is on-topic and respectful, and follows the rest of the guidelines here.

Please don't post or link to racist, sexist, misogynistic, or misandrous content.

We welcome people of all races, nationalities, and genders. Please post and comment accordingly.

This is an LGBT-friendly sub, please post and comment accordingly.

  • Homophobic and transphobic commentary is not welcome here.
  • We don't want to single out gay and trans porn as more problematic than other genres of porn.
  • If you are concerned that porn may be affecting your sexual orientation, please work that out at /r/questioning . We can help with the porn, but we don't see sexual orientation as something that needs to be "fixed".

Please don't single out kink and fetish porn as more problematic than other genres of porn.

  • Kinks and even kinky porn are not the problem, porn addiction is.
  • You're going to deal with the same issues with quitting that all of us have. You need recovery, just as the rest of us need recovery.
  • We're not into kink-shaming here.

Please refrain from porn addict-hostile rhetoric.

Blatantly porn addict-hostile rhetoric is not welcome on this sub, and will be removed.

Please refrain from linking to or referencing porn addict-hostile subreddits.

A subreddit can be judged by the hateful content that is allowed to stay up.

We don't want to send eyeballs to subreddits where blatantly porn addict-hostile rhetoric is allowed to flourish.

Please don't advise people to leave their porn-addicted partners.

We don't encourage people who we don't know to leave their partners.

Likewise, if you are the partner of a porn addict, feel free to share about your situation, but don't ask us if you should leave your partner, because we don't know.

Please don't use shaming rhetoric here.

Think porn use makes someone "a cuck"? Want to talk about how Ted Bundy used porn before becaming a serial killer? Anything else that may make our struggling porn addicted friends think less of themselves? Please keep that out of here.

Please don't post or comment about abstaining from masturbation or "lust".

This is a sex-positive, masturbation-positive subreddit. We have to work hard to keep this a place where masturbation is not pathologized, as it is on some other subreddits dedicated to discussing porn addiction.

Likewise, pathologizing "lust" and other manifestations of sexuality is not what we are about here. We are about recovering from porn addiction, we are not about denying and fighting our sexual nature.

Please don't use this space to criticise the porn industry, or to discuss the politics of porn.

Yes, there is plenty to criticise about the porn industry, but we're about recovering from porn addiction here. The industry is a distraction at best, and a source of shame for some of us. Also, the politics of porn is off-topic here.

Please don't post porn or other sexual media.

We have a zero-tolerance policy on posting porn.

Please don't mention specific porn performers, specific porn genres, or graphic depictions of sex acts or porn scenes.

Porn addicts may become triggered by reading about specific content that they may have acted out with in the past. While we realize that the real world contains triggers, this subreddit needs to be a safe space where struggling porn addicts can gather without concerns about becoming triggered.

Please don't post here if there is NSFW content on your Reddit posting history.

We want for you to post here, but please first remove ALL NSFW posts and comments from your reddit account.

If you have posted or commented on subreddits that fetishize relapsing, you must remove all of that content from your posting history.

If you have posted or commented on subreddits that fetishize relapsing, and you solicit DMs, you will almost certainly be permanently banned.

Please don't debate the existence of porn addiction here.

There are plenty of subreddits where people can split hairs about the definition or existence of porn addiction. This isn't one of them.

Please don't solicit DMs.

If you want to help people here, help them HERE. If you need help, ask for help HERE.

Please don't promote products and services.

This space is for support and discussion, not promotion.

Attention coaches and others who promote their products and services on their Reddit accounts: If we can see your promotional pitch when we click or hover over your username, you may not post or comment here. Your posts and comments will be removed, and you may be banned.

Attention app spammers: You may not post or comment here. Your posts and comments will be removed, and you may be banned.

Please don't promote surveys or interviews.

We only allow surveys from university studies that have been approved by the university's ethics review committee. An in that case, please use best privacy practices.

Please don't engage in religious proselytizing.

If you wish to share about your faith, that's fine. Good even! But please don't preach. We all have our own spiritual path.

Conversely, stridently anti-religious rhetoric is not welcome here.

Please write your posts and comments in English.

Not because English is a superior language, but because we moderators need to review submissions (sometimes hundreds per day), and every time we need to bring up Google Translate, that causes a delay.

Please don't use AI to write your posts and comments.

In a support group like this, it's kind of important for humans to talk to humans.

One exception: If English is not your native language, you may use AI to polish your posts and comment. But please make it brief - AI likes to be unnecessarily longwinded.

Please don't post here if you are under 13 years of age.

That's not our rule, that's Reddit's rule.

Whew! These guidelines are a living document; it is likely that we will edit, add to, and reorder these guidelines over time. We last updated these on 2026-01-18.

Started my journey yesterday, wish me luck!

I've been addicted to porn since I was probably about 12/13 years old and I'm 32 now, so a long time! I got married just over a month ago and we've started trying for a baby. My wife is beautiful but I find I'm not desperate for sex (we have been together for 11 years anyway but still) and I think my addiction to porn is ruining my libido.

I'll masturbate usually once a day/every two days, my Reddit was my go to porn source as it's banned in the UK. I've unfollowed all the porn pages I followed. Even now, waking up I thought 'I could have a quick hit' but I'm trying to be strong.

Day 4 now, can hopefully keep this going, if anyone has any advice let me know šŸ˜‡

How fucked am I?

I'm a 27 yo male and for as long as I remember I've been jerking off at least once or twice a day, what's worse is that I used to jerk off more than that every single day. I'm ashamed, I feel awful, broken, stupid, failure, a moron that has had masturbation addiction since I was very young.

How fucked truly am I? I still get morning wood which is a good sign but I can't keep an erection for long unless I'm in certain position and that's mostly laying in bed. I lose erection if I stand up quick. I feel ashamed and broken.

If I tried to reducing masturbation to once a week, will this fix my manhood back to somewhat normal? I feel like I've destroyed my penis beyond any recovery chances. I'm seeing a doctor soon to see if things can be fixed.

The bargaining is here already

3 days in (not my first time around) but I've already hit the first bargaining stage. "What if I just watch once a day" "who am I actually doing this for, I'm allowed to have pleasure" "what if i limit it to 10 mins no more" "just today it's just one day"

But I can't give in. Giving into a bargain is like tripping while doing parkour on a skyscraper. You don't just scrape your knee and get back up you plummet right back down.

Honestly this is always the worst part of this all. The strong desire with the bargaining.

On top of all that, my casual relationship thing with this girl just ended so that's great lol.

Boredom, desire, and bargaining the 3 Bs.

But I got this.

Leaving my husband after finding out his porn addiction has never ended.

After telling me he had been sober / abstinent from his addiction since we first met. I just found out he has indeed been binge watching, as well as watching womens content we have previously had issues with IRL.

I guess this is a vent. But also a way to encourage husbands/Wives/partners on this sub Reddit to continue their journey in recovery. I’m wishing the best for you all!

This addiction is real. Much like drugs. It can affect a home. Everyone taking the oath to recovery I’m so proud of! God speed.

I gave him the ultimatum between sticking with porn or me leaving

My boyfriend, 20M, has struggled with porn addiction since he was 13. We've been dating for 10 months. When we first started dating, it was never a thought until I he mentioned that he has a thing for Asian women. I questioned why he would tell me that and later left it at that.

Months after I that I went to check his phone because it was being blown up while we were sleeping and found tons of pictures and videos of other women including asians but what seems to be self made stuff that he got directly from other women. It struck something in me, and I immediately got sick and threw up and was up all night thinking about it. I looked further, and there was so much of it... it makes me anxious sharing this because everyone has told me that I'm wrong for not liking porn especially while in a relationship and planning for the future. He knew I didn't like porn. It hurt because he would lie and say that he didn't do anything, mention that he has other fetishes, he forgot about them, etc. all the excuses in the book.

So recently, I walked into him watching it before he left for work. I left for my morning walk and then told him and explained the ultimatum to him. He either has to get his shit together, or I'm leaving him and that it is all up to him. I told him that I was done voicing how I felt over and over and not being heard and that he is gonna have to make the change without my help since he wouldn't listen before. I didn't sugar coat it because I don't want him to think that I'm gonna let this just go by and that his actions don't have consequences.

I made it clear to him that I'm not insecure but that I believe that if you're gonna have a relationship, you shouldn't watch porn or have nude photos/videos of other women. To me, that's just common sense. I also made it clear that I'm gonna tolerate a cycle like this, and if it doesn't change, I'm leaving him. I don't really feel comfortable sleeping with him after this, so I also made the choice to sleep on the couch.

Thank you to those for taking the time to read this and maybe share feedback. Any feedback is welcome, I'm open to hearing others' thoughts, opinions, or advice. I would like advice on how to face this, though, because I don't really know where to go on from now. I'm rambling. But any advice is welcome! Thank you :)

I need serious help.

I have tried beating my porn addiction for a year, and every single attempt has failed. I am disgusted with myself every time I am done. But I can't stop. It's every day. It has gotten so bad to the point where I sexualize things that aren't sexual, like TV shows or movies. I was first exposed to porn when I was 8. I've likely had this addiction for a while. I know I should throw away everything in my house that is capable of connecting to the internet, but I know I can't do that. I NEED help.

Can the relationship be saved?

• Upvotes

Has anyone been able to save a relationship after porn addiction? My partner has been lying for 3 years but things escalated when it spiralled into online cheating. He hid it until I found out. I had no idea, there were no signs. Our relationship was great in every other aspect, no issues with sex life or anything.

He has started therapy, downloaded the blockers and deleted all social media. He is insistent that he’s dedicated to rebuilding the relationship. But I don’t know if I can get that trust back.

Is it possible to save the relationship? Do success stories exist?

Trying to stop watching porn

• Upvotes

I have been jerking off since like the age of 12. It’s just weird because I’ve done it for so long I feel like I can’t stop. I am 4 days in to not watching porn. I owe it to my partner to be better for her. I am just wondering what are some tips that helped getting you to stop watching. Or to lessen the need to watch.

Asking for Advice

• Upvotes

Hi, hypersexual male here who needs some advice. I've been masturbating since i was introduced to porn at the age of 11. I've always assumed it was just my hormones acting up but now at the age of 33, I've realized its why it ruined my two previous relationships, all i could think about was sex and although i did really love them and did the best i could as a boyfriend, i still kept masturbating every single day. It made me less intimate and whenever we had sex i could not even finish, i had to masturbate after to even do that.

Does anyone else have any advice on how to stop? I have been single for the last 13 years and have been afraid to even try to get into another relationship since i know i haven't changed. I've tried reaching out to therapists and psychiatrists on my porn addiction before, but nothing has worked.

Lust is more powerful then you think.

• Upvotes

(Sorry about my english)6 years ago i was just a kid obsessed with pokemon naruto mario etc...i would love all sorts sorts of nerdy culture because thats who i was as a person..porn killed that person a long time ago.countless and countless videos of porn just fucking my brain up from a young age and suddenly the excitement just changes into entrapment, and before you know it ive ventured into destructive kinks which is basically the cause of all my paranoia and low self esteem, every day i have to think about how much of a disgusting degenerate i am and having to be constantly reminded that i cant fucking change, lust has filled me with genuine rage withing myself because of my actions, lust has removed my ability to see myself as an actual human like i cant emphasise enough how much i just want to crack my head open sometimes, now some of you guys might not my addiction is that bad but for someone like me it really is,all ive wanted to do be someone that comforts people but instead i potentially hurt people instead..but most of this is useless anyway.i know most of you guys probably already have the addiction but i just want to make things clear.uncontrolled lust can lead down a very very dark path..while luckily i was still able to stop myself from going that far down but some other havent and are probably facing a much worse crisis than me.i feel like ive created a gap so far apart from the person i want to be that theres no use trying to even get on that path.

P.s i might aswell say it my lust addiction has turned into some sort of online exhibitionitism, yes im one of those degenerates that goon on ometv.

I keep a journal of what "the little voice of addiction" actually says. Here's my most recent entry.

• Upvotes

Since I started my recovery journey last year I started keeping a journal to write out what that little voice in my head, the addiction itself, does say to me. The reason for this is to occupy myself with writing/typing, and also laying out those thoughts and reading them back allows me to process the thoughts, see how the addicted part of my mind tries to trick me, and ultimately take power away from that voice. Here is an example of one I wrote a few days ago.

"You have been doing so well, you are in a better place mentally and happier in general. Probably you can begin to enjoy porn responsibly. You can have a healthy relationship with it. Besides, you're not even the person you used to be. You've done the work. You understand your triggers now, you're not going to just spiral like before. One time isn't going to undo eighteen months of progress. You're stronger than that now, right?

It's not even about the porn anyway. It's about proving to yourself that you're in control. That YOU decide, not some rule you set for yourself over a year ago in a completely different headspace. Rules can change. You're allowed to update them.

And honestly, everyone else seems to manage it fine. Maybe you were never actually 'addicted,' maybe you just had a rough patch. Normal people watch porn sometimes. Why does it have to be all or nothing for you?

Just this once, to test it. To see how it feels now. If it's bad, you'll know. You'll stop. You always find your way back anyway."

Of course at first it can sound very convincing, it doesn't sound like a threat, it sounds reasonable. It uses my own progress against me, "you've done the work" as a reason to undo it. That's the part that scares me most, it's not stupid, it's clever.

Writing it out instead of just hearing it took the power away. Once it's on paper it stops sounding like truth and starts sounding like a sales pitch.

Anyone else do something like this?

My experience quitting porn

Hi. Sorry in advance if this post is not that clear, English is not my mother language.

I'm 23 and I'm a porn addict, or at least I think so. I quit porn like 6 or 5 months ago. I really can't remember exactly when was the last time I watched porn. I want to share my experience because, to be completely honest, I want to feel like someone is listening, and, hopefully, it can help someone in a way.

My first contact with porn was when I was 8, but I started watching actively and doing PMO since I was 12. I can't remember exactly what the frequency was, but the last 5 years or so, I would watch every day. Some days I would even watch 3 times a day, and would PMO every time. I tried to quit when I started to watch this often, but nothing worked. I even promised my girlfriend to quit, but that lasted something like a week.

I discovered I had a serious problem because I couldn't get a climax with my girlfriend, I just could get a climax jerking off myself. That was 3 years ago, and continued until the end of my relationship.

This year I started to make some changes in my life. I received a lot of help from a friend, so I started to hit the gym. I can't explain exactly how, if it was the gym, the fact that I was doing physical activity, or whatever, but I'm sure it helped.

And I started to do something to quit porn: stop just one day.

I would watch one day, then stop one day, then watch another day. Then I would stop for two days. Then three. Then four. Then I would watch just weekends. Once or twice I would watch when I wasn't supposed to, but I wouldn't care, I would just continue as if I didn't watch. And one weekend where I had permission to watch I just... Idk, I felt like I could wait until the next weekend, and the next weekend I wouldn't feel like I needed it. And here I am, 5 or 6 months clean.

There are days, like today, when it is extremely hard to not watch. There are days where I see a direct link, or a photo in social media which triggers me real hard. I thought it'd be easier with time, but it is not like that. I think we all know how easy it is to watch porn. It takes seconds. And sometimes it is really, really hard to not.

Sometimes I try to negotiate with myself: maybe with the control I have developed I can watch without making it a problem. But I know myself, and that's not the way I work.

So, well, that's what I wanted to say. This way worked for me until now, and I hope it can help someone. For the people who have quit: do you feel the same as me?

My bf is addicted to porn

For context, I (F19) have been dating my bf (M23) for about 6 months. A while ago, my bf admitted to me that he had some issues with porn, he said he was addicted to it but was desperately trying to get better (he didn’t go into too much detail, I honestly regret not having asked any questions bc I have no idea how to approach the subject now). I had noticed some signs before he said anything, for example, he never finishes when we have sex, he always has to use his hand to get there and asks me to ā€œposeā€ por him. This is something that really bothers me and I just don’t know how to talk about it with him without making him feel bad or ashamed about it.

Since I don’t really know anything other that what he told me (which wasn’t much), I always find myself looking for signs or something that might help me understand where his head is with the whole porn thing now that we’re dating. Because of that, I recently did something that I know isn’t right.

He has his email account logged on my pc, so I decided to look through his email just to see if I find anything, like a subscription to some website or something. So here’s what I found: an email from an escort service informing that his subscription would change prices. The email was from August of last year, we weren’t even together but still, I felt so nauseous reading that… there were some other emails from that same website from previous months, but nothing past August, so I don’t know if he’s still subscribed to it.

I looked into it and it turned out to be a website where you can basically watch porn or hire escorts, I have no idea if he only watched the videos or if he had actually hired one of the girls. I really don’t know what to do. I considered trying to log into the account by clicking ā€œforgot passwordā€ and getting an access code sent to his email, but I’m afraid he’ll see the notification even if I delete the email.

When we talk about past partners, I’m really open about it, especially because I don’t really have much to talk about, he’s the second guy I’ve slept with but he refuses to tell me how many partners he’s had, I just know that I’m his first serious gf.

I’m honestly going crazy here, this isn’t something I can talk to my mom or my friends about it, what should I do?

I found out my boyfriend is addicted to porn but he doesn't know I know

My longterm boyfriend and I have been having some sex issues the last 1.5 years, way less frequent, maybe once a month and when we do it he doesnt finish.

He's not a big talker so he always just said hes shy and in his head. I thought it was because he was cheating, not attracted to me or a number of other reasons.

Well, I read his journal (I know its bad) and he wrote about his daily porn use and masterbating multiple times every day. He wrote that he wants to fix it and is attracted to me but that he cant stay hard due to being used to his hand.

My question is, do I tell him I know? How do I helo him? How do I get the attention I so badly want from him?

Edit to add: I've tried to talk openly about our sex issues and he says he wants to fix it but gets angry if i try to dig in deeper about the issue (I now think its because hes ashamed). Also we are in couples therapy but he will not talk about sex there either

Also please give advice if you ever delt with a partner that struggled and how you overcame it or how you yourself stopped watching porn

Struggling with porn addiction, fantasies, and obsession

Hi folks,

I entered a relationship with the most beautiful and special woman I have ever met in my entire life about 2 years ago. Over the course of that relationship, I've come to the realization that I am deeply afflicted by porn addiction and it has really started to damage the relationship I have with my girlfriend in ways I could have never imagined.

I've found myself lying to her and even gaslighting her about my continued porn use, because I'm ashamed of myself and I am unable to be honest that I don't have my addiction under control as much as I thought I did, or really much at all at this point. I'd never have considered myself a liar or that kind of awful person before my struggles with porn addiction, but here I am, and I know it needs to stop. I know I need help.

There have been multiple times that I've found myself unable to properly be intimate with her, and I have reason to believe that a lot of it ties back to that porn addiction. It feels like I'm unable to orgasm unless I have basically a death grip going on, which I know for sure is not something normal. I have also spent a majority of my life single, and as ashamed as I am to admit it, I became accustomed to masturbating to cartoon porn, porn games, and hentai over the course of those years. I think that part of the reason I'm unable to perform has been due to a mixture of that porn addiction and spending so much time looking at things that are not real women.

Beyond just sexual things, I've found it's warped my perception of what a real relationship and what real intimacy is like. As incredibly fucked up as it is, I even still find myself thinking about cartoon women and anime women even though I have the most beautiful girl in the world sitting right next to me in bed. I find myself thinking about porn even though she's right there with me. It's truly twisted my mind in ways I didn't realize, nor could I ever comprehend. I've even had to ask myself at times if I prefer cartoons over real women due to years of this addiction, even though I know how insane that is to even question.

I am really hoping someone else here has dealt with anything like this before, and that it all ties back to the porn addiction. That quitting porn will fix this twisted thing in my brain that makes me think about fictional characters, become emotionally invested in them, and makes me fantasize about interacting with them (dates, conversations, etc.). I don't want to be thinking about anything other than my girlfriend when we're together. It's so awful to do to her, and it makes me feel like a monster. It makes me feel like I'm cheating on her due to this obsession with porn and random characters, to be thinking about those things when we're together. It's completely ridiculous, completely shameful, and completely wrong.

Since this realization, I've been trying to quit porn for several months now. Initially I tried quitting porn and just masturbating here and there, but I've found I always end up failing myself and relapsing back to full blown porn addiction. It has been SO MUCH HARDER to quit than I ever thought it would be. It's been so disheartening, so frustrating, so depressing. After the last few failed attempts at quitting, I've been trying nofap and it seems to be taking for now, but I am terrified that I am just going to fail again. I'm also not sure if cold turkey is the best way to ease into this, or if there's something else I should be doing on this journey to quit my negative behaviors and prevent another relapse.

I'm coming here to ask if anyone's dealt with anything even remotely similar to my experiences, and what you would recommend if you were in my shoes? Is cold turkey the way to go? Are there any things you found that helped you stay nofap? Are there any pitfalls I should be mindful of? Things I should avoid? How much can I expect things to change after months of nofap? Will it fix my issues with intimacy and being properly attracted to real women, or is that an issue I probably need to talk to a therapist about? What can I do to just feel normal and feel attracted to normal things again? And sorry for all of the questions, I'm just really struggling with all of this right now. It's ruining my life and it's causing me to hurt my girlfriend in ways I will never be able to forgive myself for.

Thank you for any input and any suggestions you all have, I really do not want to fail again. I want to change and I want to be a better man than I have been to my girlfriend. I am terrified that I will lose her due to my addiction, if I am unable to stay on my nofap journey. It's already damaging our relationship, and I really want to try and fix what damage I've already caused however I can.

I Want to Stop

I’ve been addicted for many years and I’ve been very convicted lately on stopping. I’m married, we want to have kids down the line (about a year or so), I am having trouble with my urges. I’ve found if I have a lot to do or commitments that run into 2 days consecutively, I don’t give in. I need some tips and tricks that I’m not doing. I have been on a bible reading kick lately and it seems to work, but those urges are strong. Idk if there are support groups or things people do that generally make it harder to give in, but I’m open to almost any ideas

my boyfriend and i have been together for 10 months, and porn has been a consistent problem. no matter what kind of affection or effort i show, he always feels a need to ā€œtest wether he can still jack off or notā€. i constantly feel less than, and he always says it’s a personal problem that has nothing to do with me. but i have a very hard time believing this, because no matter what i do or change, it’s consistently an issue. i’ve told him it will never be acceptable for me, so if he wants to keep consistently with this habit, we shouldn’t be together & to please just leave me. from what i have seen, he kept consistently without it for months, and one day felt the need to see if he’s still addicted. i just wanted to know if i can handle this and if it would change with my boundaries. i will never be okay with him watching it while we are together, and it’s coming to a point where i feel hopeless and disgusted. i want this to work, but i feel like im being disrespected. he will also turn around the blame on me for bringing up him watching in the past, saying im making a problem by bringing it up. i can’t tell if im being gaslighted or manipulated, or if im sensitive because of my preference of not being okay with this habit. i want to understand and i want to be understood, but i don’t know if they coincide. i want honest and open opinions, i have no judgement of people with this lifestyle, but i can’t be in a relationship with someone who can’t part from this addiction.
