It's your overthinking boy right here again :D
I got a 79.07% aggregate in NUST and am aiming for CS/SE/AI. I have also been selected for BS Computer Science at FAST Islamabad.
Now my dad has given me two options:
1. Pay the FAST fees and reserve the seat as a backup.
If I later get selected in NUST, I can withdraw from FAST and get most of the fees refunded, but we'll lose around Rs. 30,000 in admission fees
2. Don't pay the FAST fees, meaning I won't have a backup option.
Instead, my dad will give me that Rs. 30,000 to invest in myself. If I choose this option, my only university option will be getting into one of my desired fields at NUST: CS, AI, or SE.
So essentially, he's trying to make me decide for myself and take responsibility for the risk.
What would you do if you were in my position?
Would you:
- Pay the Rs. 30,000 to secure FAST CS as a backup?
- Or trust your chances of getting into NUST and use the money for yourself instead?
I know nobody can guarantee that I'll get into NUST, but with a 79.07% aggregate, I have been told by many people that my chances for at least one of CS/SE/AI are quite strong. I would especially appreciate honest opinions from current NUST/FAST students or people familiar with NUST merit lists.
What would you personally do?
