I’ve been rewatching Aliens and had a question that’s been bugging me.
At the end of the movie, Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and Bishop make it back to the Sulaco. Earlier, Hicks mentions that if things go bad, they could expect rescue in about 17 days. After Ripley defeats the queen, they enter cryosleep and set a course away from LV-426.
What I don’t quite understand is this: given Ripley’s traumatic experience with cryosleep in the first movie, where she wakes up decades later to find her entire life essentially gone, why does she seem so willing to go back into cryosleep again, especially on a heading that appears to be unknown?
If they were expecting rescue in a little over two weeks, wouldn’t it make more sense to stay in orbit around LV-426 and wait it out? Or at least remain in a known location rather than setting off somewhere else and going under again?
Maybe I’m missing something obvious, but I’m curious how others interpret this. Is there an in-universe explanation, or is it just a narrative convenience to wrap up the film?

Hello everyone!
For anyone interested, I created new boards, new crew member cards, new items, and new rules for the Alien: Fate of the Nostromo board game. This is a tremendous passion project of mine and I'm excited to breath new life to one of my favorite board games of all time. You can find all the new game assets here on my website:

It’s been an excellent mail day! I was able to get this, still sealed copy, for only $30 on eBay.
I mean, it won’t be sealed by the end of the day today. lol

when I watched it in Turkey, they hired a voice actor whose voice sounded like Dek's so he could say the word "Kurt" (Wolf) in our own language.
Probably gonna do another collection update of everything when I reach 30 figures/collectibles
Also decided to get some other books alongside it.

I made this beauty yesterday! I used glow in the dark glass for the teeth which can be charged with a black light or sunlight to make it glow! This has been on my wanna do list for a very long time and I’m so stoked on how it came out!
I know, I know - they swam in Alien Resurrection but I always figured the carapace would make them too dense to float without any extra source of buoyancy.
And the feet ... don't get me started on that. Always seemed waaay too thin for adequate propulsion - even if you argue the tail hells.
But I do agree that the mask would be an issue - first time that pharyngeal jaw extends it is ... umm ... game over, man.

Vance Kelly's limited edition run of only 15 for James Cameron's "Aliens" (1986), with each print in the run being unique. The imagery is taken from the key scene in the film when the Colonial Marines first encounter the Alien nest. Hand-Numbered #13/15 by the artist, this example is finished with glow-in-the-dark orange-gold metallic background inks.

My Seiko 556-5050 “Burke” with a Joe Colombo coffee cup. The same style coffee cup can be seen with Burke and Gorman when they visit Ripley.
