Question How come Amanda still have this in M18? Spoiler

The flamethrower.

After she awakens in the makeshift hive, how does she still have it in her possession? That's a big ass piece of equipment. I would go as far as to ask, how come she still has all her belongings intact after being abducted by the Xeno and being taken God knows where? Shouldn't she have lost them along the way?

That would make sense realistically AND narratively. It would've been better if she had come to and realised all of her stuff is gone. Except 1 medkit,.of course (if you had one to begin with at that point). Then she could've *found* a gun from a nearby body. The rest of the mission then could've unfolded the way it does.

This way several issues could've been avoided:

  1. The logical one of course. You really can't be abducted by the xeno, knocked out, taken to an undisclosed location, bound to a wall and then wake up to find all your stuff with you. That just doesn't make sense. Getting abducted by Steve is a horrifying and traumatic experience. *If* you manage to make it out alive, losing your stuff should act as a reminder of what exactly you survived.

  2. Since after that point, you're only fighting off a few facehuggers, having that much firepower dilutes the horror. A gun and a medkit, along with some building material for medkits along the way, should've sufficed to keep the tension and the pressure on.

This way all the old reliables- the distractions, the weaponry, even the motion tracker- are GONE. A gun and a medkit. Two basic things you started your journey into this nightmare with. Just that this time the whole station is in a free fall as well.

THAT'S how you know you're in the endgame.

What do guys think?

Discussion Just finished the game on Hard and I’m proud of myself!

I usually play games to relax, but I had AI sitting in my library and I love the Alien franchise so I decided to give it a go.

Man what a ride! I have never been so stressed playing a game in my life. While it was far from relaxing, it was incredibly satisfying to make progress. Every save point reached and level passed felt like a huge achievement.

A few times I almost threw in the towel (Hospital Section) but I persevered and I’m so glad I did!

I now get the appeal of survival horror and will definitely play the second game when it comes out.

For now though, I need to recover so it’s time to destress and play Spyro the Dragon.

Discussion What to play next until A:I2?

TL;DR I want to try something very similar because I need that high until A:I2

Yes this was discussed several times. But I feel dissatisfied even by the thought of any other games at the moment. I feel like to me this game quickly became like that safe tv series everyone has one in particular and goes back to watch over and over in years.

I’ve been playing action and horror games on and off for the past 25 years now, my repeatedly go to were always the original Silent Hill 1-3, Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines (first one) and Fallout series (except 76, insanely bright colours damn). But after several playthroughs I can say that A:I is the game I felt the most compatible with in genre and play style for reasons everyone already agrees on. Mind you, all these games require sneaking much or less through strong unkillable enemies in common so I suppose that is my thing? I like

I just finished the nightmare difficulty this morning and still have 2 achievements to unlock (no dying and no killing humans). As I said I really do not feel like playing anything else but I don’t want to restart right away. I already have REr, SHf and a few more things installed on my console which feels meh. I played Dead Space for a while and I actually thought it was a bit… boring, sorry!

Which game do you guys think gives the same high as A:I? Thanks in advance, sorry for the length 🛸

Spoilers I just finished the game Spoiler

I just finished the game after purchasing a few days ago. This game is incredible and I cannot believe it took me so long to get round to playing it. It is now my favourite horror game I’ve played.

I am a big horror fan, and it has been a long time since I felt the level of fear and tension that Alien Isolation brings throughout the whole of the game. The Android section was a bit drawn out for me, but that’s only minor compared to the rest of the game.

The ending left a lot to be desired for me personally. The game was tense and stressful (in the best way!) and I really thought there would be some closure at the end of the story. I completely get where they are trying to go with it though, and the feeling of hopelessness. I am a huge fan of the movies, and one thing you learn from those is that you truly never win against the Xenomorph(s).

I played my first playthrough on Hard, as well as killing no humans. I collected a fair few I.D cards along the way, but need to complete another playthrough to get these, as well as the no deaths achievement. I went through my first playthrough completely blind as I wanted to experience it properly before committing to the platinum.

My question is, how tedious is it collecting all of the ID tags? Do I only need the ones I didn’t get on my first playthrough, or do I need to get them all in one playthrough? I am looking forward to playing the game again, just always struggled with collectibles myself! I know no deaths isn’t an issue due to saves, but are there any other achievements others found particularly difficult?

Also, could anyone let me know the main things that are different in Nightmare mode? I know the HUD is heavily reduced and the motion tracker is less useful or maybe even completely useless? I’m debating whether to do a nightmare run too, so any advice is much appreciated.

Glitch 100 times too many bug

I just spent about a hour trying to get that achievement on chapter 6 (spawn, shoot, die, reload) and by my calculations I should've gotten about 50 to 80 deaths (1 death each 30~45 seconds), combined with older playthroughs (2015~2018) should've gotten me the trophy. I will try again and will count each death, but if I die more than 50 times without the trophy, it means that its bugged and if so, how can I fix it?

Question Question about collectibles

I am doing my nightmare run and I have to get all collectibles (I missed the ID on the vent area we go with Axel) and wanted to know. If I finish the game and get all of the other collectibles, if I start another game or choose to replay that mission, will I be able to get the collectible I missed?
Also, will I go back with all of my equipment? Acess tuner, plasma torch and other equipment?
And finally, when I collect the missing collectibles (on mission replay) can I just quit and it will save towards the trophy or not? (I have a tight timeframe and won't be able to do a 2nd run for a multitude of reasons)

Discussion Finished A:I in Nightmare mode for probably 16th time now - here are my notes: Spoiler

I am a casual player, definitely not a speedrunner, though I took few inspirations from people on YouTube and Reddit.

1) The final sequence with facehuggers still induces a lot more stress than any other sequence in the game. The nest ? Nah. The reactor and raincoat Joes ? Meh, can do it with firing at most 1 bolt, usually not even that. But facehuggers in tight vents - the only time I am not nervous is when I am sure I have full 500 units of fuel in flamethrower.

2) The first visit to San Cristobal Medical, from Kuhlman all the way to triggering the trap, remains just as nerve-wrecking. I used to cheese it in certain spots, now I am slowly figuring out my own strats to keep the playthrough somewhat natural.

3) The scavenging for loot in early stages will determine how well I will be able to defend myself later. Certain loot will always be generated at same place every time you play the game, but the rest is really throwing a dice and see what comes up.

4) Backtracking after obtaining V3 tuner is a must - not so much for the recordings, but definitely for the loot and blueprints. And for the added thrill of trying to get back to where I am supposed to go, not knowing if I will run into alien or a pair of regular Joes or a squad of NPCs ready to shoot me on sight.

5) Speaking of blueprints - with exception of noisemaker, the V3 blueprints are universally useless if you rely on placing traps. You do not want anyone to be attracted by the noise the trap is giving away. In whichever playthrough I actually discovered that alien was certainly not lured by the noise the trap was giving out. It worked splendidly on NPCs though.

6) IRL I am actually terrified at the possibility that somewhere out there might actually be such a creature :D I know it is mostly sci-fi stuff, but I would not want to learn about existence of this kind of organism.

7) I still think about the lone woman sitting in Gemini lobby. Every single playthrough I do my damn best to keep her alive by ensuring the alien is always in my vicinity, meaning it isn't in her vicinity.
When I was finishing my 16th playthrough today, as I was traversing maintenance rig in EVA suit to release Torrens, I took a look at the burning Sevastopol, and thought to myself that I wish there was a way to save at least some of those people.
We don't know if she was ultimately killed by Xeno or by station burning up in gas giant's atmosphere. But I do hope she found the peace on her own terms.

End of brain dump about this game. 12 years later and it is still kicking ass. I will answer any questions new or inexperienced players might have.

Discussion I’m a newish player and I feel like I’m missing something

I just got the flamethrower and now the Alien doesn’t feel like a threat nearly as much. I was also expecting more from its intelligence, so far throwing a flare or hiding in a closet has worked. I’m not sure if I’m to early in the game but am I missing something or doing something wrong?
