I've got an unhealthy amount of time logged in NMS, love it on a cerebral level but it's simplicity is growing to be a problem at extreme endgame. Basically I love building out star systems, setting up trade and defensive strategies, playing the factions for profit, etc, etc. Does this sound like I'm describing X4 or what? Yet... everytime I boot up X4 after a few hours I'm just thinking I'd be having more fun playing NMS. Even though while I'm playing NMS I start to get annoyed that it's not as "real" as X4...
I can't quite put my finger on it, on paper X4 should be the "advanced version" of NMS that I'm looking for, but it's just not hooking me for some reason.
I think I've done all of the Story Starts in X4, and I usually have a pretty great time with it until about 4~5hrs in when the game just really starts to sink into Menu, Menu, Map Screen, Menu, Map, Menu, etc. All the "gameplay" just dwindled as the game goes on when I try to get into it.
So I guess to summarize this rambling, what recommendations are there for a game that mixes X4 style simulation with NMS style... fun? Just staying in character and building empires/trade/fleet command/etc without becoming a Menu Simulator.
And I also feel like there may be some suggestions on how to tweak settings or think differently within X4 too, so open to that as well since I already own the Complete Edition anyway haha 😄

Inspired by Space Trek games, like Spacefleet Command and Space Trek Online, I wanted to bring that slower combat mechanism to the indie scene.
This is just a proof of concept - so yeah, wip.
Is there a niche audience for this type of game out there?

This is the new trailer for NGC-404: Fractured Sector, our multiplayer 2D space strategy/RPG.
You directly control a small fleet in real-time battles, including manually piloting one ship, while managing the wider faction through trading, exploration, colony development and high-level orders for additional ships.
The game is still in active development, so combat audio, UI feedback and several systems are continuing to evolve. We’ve already made major changes based on community feedback, including new impact VFX, moving weapon mounts, stronger explosions and improved combat presentation.

Hey r/spacesimgames ,
I've just opened a Steam page for my next idle game about managing a space ship, colonies across planets, and many things to make your bank account overflow.
As you can see above, one of the features is a companion mode you can leave around while doing other things, and then get back to the game with just one click.
Just checkout Aeons Odyssey on Steam if that sounds like your jam!

We are building the economy of Verse Project around physical constraints, not just abstract rarity values.
Earth is still connected to the rest of the Earth–Moon system, but low orbit is crossed by a dangerous Kessler debris belt. Surface-to-orbit cargo can only move through narrow launch windows and protected transit corridors that need constant tracking, debris clearing, specialized infrastructure, and insurance.
That means an Earth-grown product can be expensive on Host Station even if it is ordinary on the surface. Its price includes the route, the protection, the limited launch capacity, and the risk involved in getting it through orbit.
This is an early visual exploration of how we want those constraints to show up in the game economy. We want players to be able to look at a price and understand that there is a physical reason behind it.
What kinds of logistics details make a space economy feel believable to you: route risk, regional supply, cargo mass, perishability, insurance, or something else?

About six months into playing EVE, back when lowsec was fun, I took an artillery Hurricane out solo and got tackled. I hadn't gone looking for the fight, I was just out to pop some belt rats. I was a complete noob, suddenly fighting for what was, for me, a very expensive ship.
I tried to do all the things I'd half-learned by then. Keep range, feather my course around the artillery cycle, drop transversal long enough to make each volley land.
Then one connected and took a massive chunk out of him. For a few seconds I thought, hang on, I might actually win this. What happened? He got under my guns. I went pop. My first big loss.
Despite the loss I remember the thrill of landing those few big hits.
Overdrive came from that. Landing clean hits builds timed stacks of weapon damage and rate of fire. Once you've got some momentum, there's pressure to create the next good shot before it disappears. You can reset your range and lose the bonus, or stay committed and risk letting something get under your guns.
An Overdrive kill can also trigger Shield Surge, giving you enough shield recharge to keep fighting. Sometimes that commitment saves the run. Sometimes one good hit convinces you to hold a terrible line.
Perihelion: Rogue Orbit is my 2D space combat game about fitting a ship and then trying to fly it properly. Range, tracking and transversal all matter, but the fights are packed into short runs so you can adjust the fit and go again when it inevitably falls apart.
It's out now in Steam Early Access:

[Closed Beta] The Pathfinder Journeys — sci-fi bridge command game (Android)
Hey everyone! I'm looking for beta testers for my narrative-driven sci-fi game, The Pathfinder Journeys.
What it is: You play Captain Bub Stellar of the UES Pathfinder. An alien artifact appears on your bridge, and you must navigate a branching story across 10 chapters — consulting your crew, making command decisions, and living with the consequences. Think Star Trek meets Choose Your Own Adventure, with hidden stat tracking and a command style evaluation at the end of each chapter.
What I need:Â Google requires 12+ testers for a 14-day closed beta. I'm looking for Android users who enjoy sci-fi, narrative games, or just want to help an indie dev out. All you need is a Gmail account and an Android device.
What you'll do:
How to join:Â Just click this link to join the Google Group: Â https://groups.google.com/g/pathfinder-game-beta-testers
Once you're in, I'll send you the Play Store download link.
This is my first mobile game release — any feedback is hugely appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

The surroundings of the site 600 days into the mission as viewed from the drone. The initial crew has gone home and the replacements are 250 days into their stay.
As a designer, the modifications of the layout within Ares Inception is one of the interactions I’m most excited about building into this game. I want the crew to have depth and character, but he facilities is where I've spent most of my time creating over the years. Walking through those halls and into the different greenhouses and lab spaces is where I can get myself lost in the scene.
The initial facilities are minimal with options to maximize some spaces at the expense of others. Through successive missions, the player has the opportunity to add to existing spaces, or start from scratch in new locations with greater capabilities.

Come and join our new multiplayer server starting this weekend! We have made lots of improvements since the last one after all the community feedback and testing.
Runs on both Linux and Windows (mac support coming soon) with an arm64x build available on itch too.
Riftborne is a classic terminal based (yes run fully in the terminal), real time, grand strategy game. Construct space ships. Take part in factional warfare. Hire galactic hit-men on your rivals. Raid neighbors for rare resources. Train spies to infiltrate enemy bases for key intel. Grow your empire to dominate the galaxy. You begin with a single colony ship. That grows into a network of colonies, asteroid outposts, fleets, supply lines, and defenses.
Emphasis on teamwork, strategy, and planning... you can't win alone. The game lives just as much on paper, in the chats, and in player relationships as it does on the screen. But if you'd prefer to go it alone, there is also the option to spawn as an independent (high risk!).
Multiplayer Experience:
Other Features:
Server start time:
We also have an active discord community with over 800+ members.
Look forward to seeing you there!
