End of Support for Old Reddit

Hello r/starcitizen users,

The mod team has made the decision to end support for the old Reddit version of our subreddit. We feel that the time has come, given the current levels of use for said version, and that we no longer have the desire to maintain multiple versions. We won't be removing most of the sidebar content, but things such as the rules list and resources will no longer be updated.

For up-to-date rules and resources, please refer to the new Reddit page. Not looking at the rules on said new version will not constitute you not needing to follow them or be aware of them.

Thank you,

- r/starcitizen Mod Team

Edit: It seems my wording wasn't great, sorry about that. By end of support we SOLELY mean that the sidebar won't be updated anymore and things such as rules are being removed and replaced with a short message about checking the new reddit version for them. We have zero ability to turn off old Reddit for our individual subreddit and we assure you all even if we did, we wouldn't.

DISCUSSION I have made a decision regarding SC, and it is set in stone.

Im not spending a single dollar in the store until SQ42 is released. I know it doesn't matter (that they couldn't care less) but I’m tired, really tired. Not just of the wait for SQ42, but of all the secrecy surrounding the project.

Since I put my first dollar into this game:

- Finished my degree.

- Finished my master.

- Found a job.

- Gotten married.

- Had a child with the woman of my life.

I’m sorry, but today I made the decision. I’m done.

DISCUSSION Can the mods please start banning low-effort generic karma-farming posts.

Upvotes

I don't mind if people are being negative starcitizen deserves criticism, but the sub is getting clogged up with low effort rage bait posts multiple times a day.

Do we need our daily dose of these posts?

Call to action posts i'm not spending another dollar till cig does X

I'm quitting

I got my friend to play starcitizen but X bug happened and they swore they'd never play again.

I swear this site and this sub are turning into facebook cause of lack of proper moderation.

Turns out the black boxes fit perfectly in the co pilot seat of the Mk2 Super Hornet. The box never moved an inch and I was successfully able to get back to Levski and complete the mission. I figured it would move erratically or just fallout due to server desync but I was pleasantly surprised. I’m actually very happy with the game’s performance my past few sessions of playing

DISCUSSION What I expect at the very least from the Exploration in SC.

Post image
133 Upvotes

Yes, I know other games are much more simplified than Star Citizen, but when it comes to exploration, it certainly possesses the fundamentals that SC should adopt for its own approach:

 - First of all, exploration needs to feel unique… that is, you should be able to discover "something" on a planet yourself, and have that "something" bear your name. A new plant species? A strange animal with altered genetic code? Star Citizen doesn't feature procedural planets... however, it could feature fauna, flora, and minerals that (based on atmospheric( temperature, and procedural conditions, result in rare types worthy of investigation.

- On the other hand exploration needs to feel like a genuine mechanic… there should be a range of tools (similar to those for mining), including gadgets for detecting surface anomalies, water temperature gauges, and analyzers for flora and fauna genomes. There should be specialized ships equipped with research radars and, depending on the vessel, even onboard research centers. If I collect a sample of a mutated Kopion, I want to be able to determine its benefits and even register it so I can sell it for a fortune. Perhaps that Kopion sample could be used to develop a MedPen that provides better healing without increasing your toxicity level. That’s just an example.

- The most important thing for me is an online registry of discoveries, including their quality and mutation status. Found a rare ore vein with 1000 quality? Perfect, upload it to the online registry, and another player might buy it or, who knows... ask you where you found it... for a tidy sum. "Where'd you find that, buddy?" (10M UEC check) "I found it at these coordinates on Nyx I, in a small cave within a swamp." Yes, that ore possesses the essential characteristics to be considered rare.

- Finally, the link to the crafting system. THIS IS ESSENTIAL! For me, this is the key point CIG needs to consider. Crafting must be tied to exploration; what will the player who bought the coordinates for that mutated, 1000 rarity ore do? Craft gear with unique attributes. Let your imagination, and the market…run wild.

Yes, CIG, community have good ideas too. But usually we are nothing in a development.

DISCUSSION 4 hours lost to losers camping the jump gate...

I can understand Pryo being hostile, but the gates should be protected...

Was about to jump, just spooled, then a group of losers in a Persius were camping the gate killing people. they were not pirates... we were in a mole loaded. they disabled us then rammed us. they were clearly only out to ruin peoples experience. no intention in trying to get our raw ore...

That is not engaging game play. You should not be able to camp major gates that should have protection.. I can understand anywhere else in pyro, but the main gates should not be free game.

I have been backing this game for a long time and have spent way too much on it. Sadly, I have less and less desire to play this game and can't understand Cigs thinking most of the time anymore.. I am usually a white night for them, but it is only getting harder as time goes by to justify their flawed logic/poor game design and poor communication..

Sorry for the rant just losing faith.

CREATIVE Finally sharing my Area 18 Kiosk build from 2024 Manchester CitizenCon!

Area 18 Kiosk I built for the 2024 Manchester CitizenCon Atlas Defense Industries booth! 🚀

This kiosk had fully working Hangar and Inventory screens and was the heart of our giveaway event. Attendees had to hack it with a Cryptokey to win prizes.

Throughout the weekend we dropped hints every hour about the locations of 5–6 hidden Cryptokey cards. They were carried by ADI members roaming the venue in our bright blue “A” shirts (including some absolute legends from CIG — thank you again Mark Gibson!). Once brought back to the booth, the cards were used with the “Zero Cool” hacking box attached to the kiosk. Successful hacks revealed the prizes.

The whole project took about 2 months to complete. The toughest part was designing it to break down completely and fit into a single Pelican case under 50 lbs — Heathrow’s strict rules made that mandatory.

I just got back from the Chicago Bar Citizen where I had a great chat with Dan and Nate from CIG. They were jealous that Manchester had one and they didn't. :) So, now I'm planning to build one for the Austin office and deliver it in person!

Would anyone be interested in building one of their own? I’d be happy to share details, files, lessons learned, and advice if you want to tackle a similar project.

DISCUSSION Stuff that actually seems to have been fixed after the latest maintenance

  • After latest hotfix/maintenance I've gotten the cargo for my contracts again. At the same time I see people still having issues so might not be completely done.
  • No more murdering people cowering in their undies. It just feels wrong to shoot people without any on.
  • The wormholes are consistently working after the enlongement of the travel. Haven't been spitted back out in the originating star system once after 4.9 dropped.
  • Railens doors now all have a F interaction prompts, no more fiddeling around with the mouse to open and close things. Also the lightning in both Railen and Ironclad works as expected for me now.

It's not the fix all - game good patch, but at least some things are getting better.
