DISCUSSION Calling all 890 Jump Owners

We've put up with our fair share of bugs & weird issues since 3.17. The water went missing from the hot tub & pool for a few patches. The sheets and pillows are still missing from the beds for no good reason. Along with the Polaris, it's still one of the easiest ships to hack into.

But I ran into something recently that really caused an issue: They never bothered giving the 890 Jump a single storage locker. Not one. There not a single place to store even a single med pen. The only way to store things on the 890 Jump is by using containers, which is absurd, especially for one of the largest and most expensive ships in the game.

Please help by confirming/upvoting this IC report: https://issue-council.robertsspaceindustries.com/projects/STAR-CITIZEN/issues/STARC-214816

DISCUSSION Ironclad is a solo cargo ship unlike the Railen/C2/Hermes/Hull C

The Ironclad pilot can both fly the ship and use the ship beam from a single seat. The Railen, C2 and Hull ships cannot and require playing music chairs or depending on a crew.

CIG never allows a cargo ship pilot to use the ship beam even in the Cutlass, Zeus CL or C1 you must switch seats. Their last minute fix created this.

CONCERN It’s honestly really sad how CIG, and Chris in particular, are cowardly hiding away and refusing to say anything about the current situation or how they plan to turn things around over the coming months.

If they just go on releasing a halfbaked instancing t0 with 4.10. and keep going like this, things will only get worse ...

DISCUSSION Piracy... or just griefing?

I have absolutely no issue with piracy in Star Citizen. Quite the opposite.

I've been a pirate myself in the past, and to me piracy is one of the pillars that makes this universe unique.

But piracy has a purpose.

  • You stop a ship
  • You take a risk
  • You negotiate
  • You steal cargo.
  • You earn a profit.

That's gameplay.

What I struggle to understand is when someone proudly presents themselves as a "great pirate" and the only visible outcome is:

  • no loot,
  • no ransom,
  • no objective,
  • just another destroyed ship.

Even worse when it happens above freight elevators or cargo loading zones.

Those locations are already affected by bugs and limited availability. Filling them with wrecks doesn't create gameplay; it simply makes the experience worse for everyone else.

The same goes for bombing unsuspecting haulers with an Eclipse. Yes, it's Pyro. Yes, there are no laws. But the absence of rules isn't automatically a justification for meaningless destruction.

If your goal is PvP, Star Citizen offers countless opportunities against players who can actually fight back.

Destroying a cargo pilot who has little chance to react isn't really piracy. It's simply removing someone else's gameplay without creating any of your own.

To me, the difference is simple:

A pirate creates a story.

A griefer ends one.

EDIT: I clearly didn't explain myself well, judging by some of the responses. I'm talking about blocking a freight elevator after destroying a ship for no purpose other than leaving the wreck there.

DISCUSSION We are heading toward the end of the year, and what do we have?

Post image
316 Upvotes

And no, I’m not talking about new ships…there’s no shortage of those. I’m referring to the core features Chris Roberts mentioned in his letter:

- Dynamic Server Meshing: it’s not here, nor do I expect it anytime soon; the way they’ve handled it is so embarrassing that they haven’t even offered an explanation. This technology is essential, and... we’re still waiting.

- SQ42: no comment.

- PlanetTech V5: CR says 2026, but I doubt it. Not even a preview? Nothing. I don’t expect it until 2027, and even that’s optimistic.

- Starchitect: more of the same.

- New flight system: I haven’t heard a word about this; for all I know, it might be cancelled.

- Pyro solar flares: anything new?

- Social system: supposedly coming this year... everything is slated for this year, yet nothing is actually happening.

- Base building: well, there you have it maybe in our dreams.

Is it really so hard for someone responsible at CIG to come and provide an update? Is that too much to ask?

CONCERN 4.9 is worse than 4.8 (for me)

Made my way through the 4.8 cycle and was still able to have fun and defend the game.

Now in 4.9 with all the “bug fixes” i can’t do the usual hauling I like to do due to no cargo spawning for missions, and trying bunker missions I get sent to Klescher for trespassing and I lose 2 high Q crafted weapons, 3 pieces of high Q crafted armor and just now lost all the mined materials I had to replace armor and weapons when my ironclad assault decided to explode in my hangar of its own accord.

Think it’s time to break until 4.10

Please contribute if either has happened to you:

DISCUSSION Star Citizen Was Always Two Games from Day One: An Online Universe, and a Single-Player Adventure

Creating this because I frequently see comments on posts saying, "It was just S42 and the PU was a stretch goal!", or "Nobody backed for S42, it was tacked on later"!

PSA: it was two games from day one. From the very first announcement.

The entire reason Chris dove in to create this game is that he felt he could create one project that combined Wing Commander, Freelancer, and Privateer into a single universe. Not some of them: all them.

Here's the announcement of Star Citizen, at GDC on October 10, 2012. This is the day that the game was opened up on the pledge store on the old RSI website, even before the Kickstarter.

You can see that Chris explains the game is both persistent online universe, and everything that was great about Wing Commander (the single player story adventure) as well.

The original plan was to collect $2-4 million to make a multiplayer Alpha that would attract further investment to build it into something bigger, and to release Squadron 42 as a completed game within 18 months.

For reference, here are the original funding goals:

Star Citizen's Original Funding Goals

So the original plan was that at $2 million minimum, Star Citizen gets made — with both games.

In the Kickstarter (created one week later), this was clearly laid out as well:

"Real quick, Star Citizen is:"

  • A rich universe focused on epic space adventure, trading and dogfighting in first person.
  • Single Player – Offline or Online(Drop in / Drop out co-op play
  • Persistent Universe (hosted by US)

By the time funding $6 million around November 19, 2012, the plan had changed to "all the bells and whistles. This is a key point: the game was never intended to be small. It was "start with an Alpha PU and S42, build the bigger PU with investor help". It became "build the entire post-Alpha PU ourselves" around $20-23 million.

So please, let's stop the claims that this game was one game, with the other tacked on. It's ok to have your preference — but if you've backed, from day one, your money was going to either/both games.

DISCUSSION What a Disappointing Game

After several years of interest I finally get this game after purchasing a decent computer. I got a $150USD ship to get started. The first 12 hours are super awesome! After only playing for 1 day (5 days ago) my ship disappears from the fleet manger. I reach out to support, no response yet. I go online and all people say it's part of the 'experience'. Do you all have no self respect for yourself? Is this game the fetlife of the community for those that like to get pissed on and call it rain? This game has been in development for 16 YEARS. How pathetic. I'll be calling my CC company tomorrow to hopefully get my money back for this scam. Can't wait to get banned from this sub reddit for speaking the truth. (MaYbE I JuSt DoN'T gEt It) Peace.

DISCUSSION How do you feel about the project?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I want total honesty: how do you all feel? For me, this year has been about waking up and realizing a few things:

- I’ve realized that SQ42 isn’t coming out on time. Maybe an alpha in 2027...

- I’ve realized I’ll never watch CitizenCon again…what for? I don’t want to be tied to vaporware for ten years.

- I’ve realized that multicrew gameplay doesn’t work in this game.

- I’ve realized that spending money on ships doesn’t deliver on the promises that were made.

- I’ve realized that the fair value of this game is $60.

- I’ve looked at my hands, sore from holding the line for so long.

And you guys… how y feeling?

DISCUSSION See how easy it is to get engaging and meaningful PvP, CIG?

Upvotes

With patch 4.9 we saw some new commodities added to terminals in Pyro. These specifically are MUCH higher of a ROI than what we’ve had prior (I know Partillium used to be like this back during the “Partillium Wars”).

What’s been going on at Ashland and Chawla’s Beach since the start of 4.9 is the perfect example of how CIG should be using profit and greed as a carrot on a stick. Since then we’ve seen a massive uptick in the amount of PvP that’s purely focused on a singular objective in Pyro. We’ve seen traders using escorts, ground pirates, pirates getting pirated, PMC groups protecting random players, and skirmishes that involve 10-20+ players - both on foot and in the air.

This is exactly the outlet that pirates and PvP’ers need, which creates a secondary benefit to all players - PvP having a purpose. I’m all for shooting someone just cause you can, but the honest truth is that the game is unfinished and the mechanics that we should have in place to punish and persuade against criminal behavior aren’t in yet.

The magic bullet here was cranking the ROI up. Pyro is risky, and while there are definitely traders that do trade commodities, the bulk of players opt to do contract hauling. That’s fine, and while it does need some tweaking in the form of requiring a collateral (imo), if the ROI isn’t REALLY worth the risk why would they NOT just run contracted?

CIG I implore you to continue to add commodities around the various POIs of Pyro that have ROI’s high enough to draw players there. This is the direction, this is the path.

DISCUSSION CIG all we want is transparency..

So i know this page right now is filled with a bunch of posts about this year kinda being a major flop for CIG. The only MAJOR things we've gotten this year is some concept ships (ironchad etc) which were still broken upon release.

I think every star citizen backer or even people just watching along the development and not playing would just like CIG to be more transparent.

Not about exploits or anything like that because im sure we can all understand why they're kept quiet. But when it comes to ALL these major features from the last maybe 3-4 years that we're said to be coming this year.

It kinda just feels like everything we see is broken, broken and more broken. Even the stuff that was fixed a few patches ago. Now broken.

It would be nice every couple of months or even every patch to have maybe have a SC update on either YouTube or on spectrum etc so that we can actually hear from the Dev team and let them tell us WHY its taking so long.

Tell us where they stand with each major content drop

Where they are with major features.

What problems they're running into.

Its very rarely we even hear that they're running into issues even though im sure we can all argee. They're defo facing issues. And big ones.

Im glad they delayed instances but at the same time it would be nice to hear more about why.

DISCUSSION With instancing arriving in the PU, I'd love for instanced PvP content to be introduced

I enjoy emergent PvP in the PU (when it happens and works), and I think structured PvPvE areas like the CZs are really well conceived. This type of structured area gives PvP oriented players a specific zone, specific goal, and rewards for completion -- when it works, it's a well-contained loop that I can predictably grind when I'm looking for a PvPvE experience.

Beyond CZs, there aren't many structured opportunities for PvP in the PU, particularly ship/vehicle PvP: Bounties are hit-and-miss and often require long travel just for a chance at a dogfight; PvP fleet battles seem to be a function of planned org battles; and resource based fights are spontaneous and often unpredictable. For solo players, finding a ship duel or team-based PvP in an couple hour session ranges from difficult to impossible (unpredictability, size of the verse, lack of established loops, server issues, etc.).

And, as much as I cheer the death of the light fighter meta, using a light fighter to grind rep or farm for auec/items in the PU is hardly easy now, so my light fighters (as a primarily solo player) mostly collect rust in the hangar. Their purpose (dogfighting) doesn't really seem to have much of a place in the PU at present.

I know that instanced PvP already exists in some form in AC. Still, I rarely visit AC because when I have free time, because I really like to grind rep/auec/items in the PU.

It strikes me that a lore-consistent PvP arena could exist in lawless Pyro (or, hell, even Lorville) where you could merge instanced PvP with PU progression. I'm not suggesting that CIG gate new items behind instanced PvP, but progressing/winning an instanced PvP gamemode could be an alternative path to earning some mil A/B components, rep, auec, or even crafting materials.

The most interesting aspect of an instanced PvP arena within the PU would be the ability for drop-in dogfighting and FPS play that has meaning and progression in the PU. It would also provide light fighters a stage to do what they're intended to do - fight other fighters. Instancing PvP would (hopefully) shelter any arena from the dramatic desync and server issues which can complicate and cheapen other PvP in the PU.

There would be a million ways to structure instanced PvP to balance risk vs. reward (repair costs, respawn costs, reputation loss, time gating) in order to make sure that instanced PvP progression balances against alternative PU loops and to not further split the PvP community.

Despite its warts, I do love this game and think the PvP has massive potential. I'd love to find more sessionable (and potentially team-based) PvP when I log in to the PU.

In all honesty, I'm trash at PvP, but I'd be quite happy to spend my time being cannon fodder.

See y'all in the verse!

DISCUSSION Unpopular Suggestion: Remove free claim & enforce timers for capital ships

Post image
310 Upvotes

TL/DR at bottom.

Every so often, I see posts on here, and also gameplay in the verse, with orgs and pirate/murderhobo players bullying and harassing other players with capital ships. Either be in an org, group, or even solo. And typically, there isn’t much that can be done against them.

While I do love my capital ships, as well as many others on here, there is always an argument everyone getting a capital ships, or capital ships everywhere, and there is no real risk to losing them. Pvp’ers that have both tons of ingame money, and/or real life money that bought their capitals aren’t deterred to losing their ship and will be right back out to continue the fight/harassment/etc if they need to reship with the same capital.

With Javelin coming soon, then Odin, Bengal, and any other capital ship in the future, with more people that win the F5 wars to buy them; it could get to the point where everyone flies capitals and nothing else, because why not. Besides the cost, which isn’t really a deterrent to those who grind everyday to make tons of credits, and large orgs with pool of credits and resources, I have a solution:

*Barring from bugs and issues on CIG end…

Remove free claims on all combat capitals (such as Polaris, Idris, and future combat capitals). Must be paid claim only.

And the most important factor:

After you undock your capital ships, just as it is right now, the claim timer starts, but will apply to the paid claim (since free claim shouldn’t be allowed for combat capitals).

Example. If I recall, when I lost my Idris almost immediately upon undocking, the free claim timer was +/- 16 hours. Since free claim shouldn’t be a thing for combat capitals, that timer will apply to the paid claim (approx 990k credits on the Idris. For example). Once paid, the timer starts upon undocking, and if you bring it back safely. Great! ….timer resets though. Why? Because you brought back safely. Undock again, timer starts from scratch again.

This will immediately deter constant capitals everywhere; people will make sure to take care of theirs and use it when they feel it is necessary, knowing if they lose it, they cannot get another till the next day, regardless how rich they are.

Again, this is for only combat capitals. Reclaimer, 890j, and other capitals that aren’t classified as combat, won’t apply. This will encourage use of smaller ships, or sub-capital ships.

TL/DR: combat capitals are everywhere. To minimize it, remove free claims. Paid claim only, and apply timer to paid claim, so even being rich will prevent you from constantly pulling out a Polaris/Idris every hour after losing them. Make them worth it when you undock and take care of your capital.

DISCUSSION Insuring Loadout

Anyone know how insuring your loadout works? Do you have to pay to ensure your ship each and every time you bring your ship up, because every time I bring different ships up, even if I have ALREADY insured the loadout previously and nothing has changed, it asks if I want to do it. Please advise.

Have they released it yet?
I have never heard of this game but people seem so psyched about it for what seems like over 10 years.

But it seems to be nothing but crumbs falling from a table that keeps people coming back for me.

I mean no disrespect to anyone that supports this game. This video just really intrigued me especially with the fan support it has gotten and continues to get.

Edit: I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for answering my question and giving me extra details. Hopefully you all get Squad 42 soon!

Not many people are invested like this into anything anymore. Everyone wants to move on to the next fad as soon as possible.

Stuck on the left-hand side.

When I log into the game, I can move the keyboard, mouse, inventory, and F2. They don't work.

I've repaired my account five times. I managed to get to my home location, but it still doesn't work. After my character self-destructs, I'm back in the medical section on the left-hand side.

I changed regions, it's available, but everything remains the same. It's been like this for 12 hours now.

I've deleted files and cleared the cache, but nothing helps.

Everything works fine in Arena Commander.

BUG Size 5 torps not doing any damage to NPC Shiv and Paladin?

I was doing some bounties in nyx in the percy, I can pop my targets up to hammerheads with a few volleys of size 5 torps. But the Shiv and Paladin NPCs take NO damage from the toprs. I have landed like 8 torps on a shiv and hull was still white as snow. Are the torps bugged against those ships or are those ships indestructivle to torps

GAMEPLAY Mi experiencia Tiburón Solo en Combat Gauntlet 7

Hola!

Saludos! o7

DISCUSSION Feels like we're heading toward either a delay or a genuinely well executed marketing push

Upvotes

Here's my theory on how the rest of the year plays out.

CIG's been dead quiet lately, but Gamescom is on their site as confirmed, and there are already leaks that Squadron 42 will be playable there ( if it turns out true ).

My guess is they'll also drop the actual release date at Gamescom itself, which would be the perfect moment to do it, with everyone's eyes already on them. People will play it, hype it up, and the announced date gives them a hard deadline to build hype toward.

Then there's the Week 41 playtest for streamers/YouTubers/media. Once they get hands-on time, you know they're going to hype the hell out of it too.

So if media gets it in Week 41, my bet is the actual release lands in Week 42 ( For Squadron (42) ) — right after the internet's had a week to lose its mind over it.

That timing lines up perfectly with IAE in November. If it all goes off, we're probably looking at record sales, maybe $200M+ if Squadron 42 numbers get folded in.

If the game's actually good and this plan works, I think it'll pay off big.

But let's be real here, it's still a marketing move to close the year strong, and it might end up quietly burying some other features/promises that don't make it and get pushed with a delay instead.

Either way, if Squadron 42 actually drops this year, that's a massive win for the community and honestly a huge relief at this point.

Of course, i am very delulu

QUESTION Low Server FPS?

Why are we back to having server fps in the single digits? I was on a shard with 260 players and 95 on the server and was getting 7 and 8 server fps.
