General Cleaning Cleaning coffee from white wall paint

Black coffee has spilled on the wall about 12 hours ago and I am struggling to get it out. The paint is matte white. I initially used dishwashing liquid with water. Then I used warm water with white vinegar. Then I used three magic sponges. Are there any further recommendations as the stain is still there. Especially the streaks at the bottom show up a lot.

General Cleaning unvaccinated stray licked my pants/socks how dirty is this compared to my vaccinated dog at home?

Upvotes

hey guys, quick question cause my health anxiety is spiking a bit.

a guy near me took in a stray dog that isn't vaccinated yet, and the dog licked my pants right near the ankle where i was wearing short socks. i'm worried some saliva might have soaked through fabric onto my skin. I don't have any open cuts or bleeding wounds down there, but i can't stop overthinking it.

a few quick questions:

how dirty is an unvaccinated stray's spit compared to my vaccinated dachshund at home? is there actually a big hygiene/bacterial difference for casual fabric contact, or is it mostly just standard dog slobber?

is taking a regular shower with standard shower gel enough to clean my skin if any saliva soaked through?

should i wash these pants and socks separately in the laundry or is a normal wash cycle fine?

appreciate any reassurance, trying not to spiral over "what ifs."

General Cleaning new apartment, funky smell, how can i fix this?

Upvotes

I’m moving into a new apartment. It looks clean but there’s just a funky, stale kinda smell that’s not going away. I move my stuff in next week. I’ve cleaned the floors already which did not address the issue. What else can I try? (I am opening windows, but this is texas in n summertime so that’s not a long term fix.) thank you!!

Kitchen How do I clean under the metal spirals?

Post image
Upvotes

Just like the post title. Adult male that has a hard time maintaining the home. Combo of depression and rarely home. The few times that I choose to cook at home something is always burning under whichever one I need to use. Been trying to do better with home cooked meals but hate having to smell/taste burnt/charcoal. By extension, are the spirals suppose to look like that or do I have to clean them with something specific?

Thanks in advance

General Cleaning Giving your house a good smell when cleaning

Upvotes

I might share a tip that many implement on a regular basis and I’m just late at the party, but let’s do it anyway. A simple trick I use before cleaning my house is spraying a few drops of a nice perfume inside the vacuum filter. It’s just as simple as that and it works wonders! The nice thing about this is you can switch your "home" fragrance as often as you like—as opposed to sticks in a jar or regular home fragrance sprays. Enjoy!

I wear hats all the time and realized I honestly don’t have a great way to clean them. What does everyone do to keep their favorite hats looking good?

I have tried dishwasher and washing machine but my hats tend to lose shape or get ruined.

Kitchen HELP: Foul Fowl! (Chicken spoiled big-time in the refirgerator freezer)

Upvotes

The power failed on my refrigerator in the garage. and we didn't nitice for a week! Everything spoiled and created a horrific smell in the freezer. The worst was leaking red liquid from spolled checkand and beef. Most of it was caught in plastic bins the had been holding the vacuum-sealed food (which burst.)

Cleaned everything out, washed everything I could get to including the coild with a water/baking soda solution, then Lysol all-0surfeace cleaner, then nature's miracle. We slao flushed the drain hose with the same solutions, and it still smells.

Right now the freezer section is BY FAR the worsst. Its been closed with the power off and a big tray of baking soda, hoiping that improves things.

I REALLY don't want to replace thei refirgerator! Any ideas?

Bathroom Am I insane or is this really mold?

Thumbnail

I tried spraying this with a shower mold solution my grandpa made (alcohol+vinegar+dawn) and scrubbed it and it didn’t work. It kept coming back. It’s everywhere in our shower/bathtub area (none in the tub, just on the tiles). I’m getting worried that this might be mold. Should I call our landlord?

Please help, I’m freaking out right now.

Furniture What is this insect and how to approach it?

Hello! 6 Months ago, we moved into a new flat that came with a basement. It did seem dry. However, yesterday I discovered that various items made of wood, paper or textiles are covered in -what looks to me- mold. However, there are also some larvae (?) on the wooden items I guess. Unfortunately, I think, I have to get rid off everything covered in mold. Yet, I wonder what kind of insects is this? Can someone help me?

General Cleaning Steam cleaner for dust mites or bed bugs

Hi everyone. I’m thinking about buying a steam cleaner to treat my couches, mattress, and other upholstered furniture for dust mites and, if necessary, bed bugs.

Do steam cleaners actually work for either of those? If so, are there any particular brands or specifications I should look for?

Also, what’s the proper way to use one? Should I steam the entire surface slowly, focus on seams and crevices, or is there a recommended technique to make it effective without damaging the fabric?

Furniture Water stain on polyester fabric

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi all, have any of you had success in cleaning a water stain from polyester fabric? (Not sure if it matters but it’s recycled polyester, mentioning it in case it does)

What I’m seeing online is the white vinegar and distilled water mix but wasn’t sure if vinegar was going to be too harsh since I don’t see any polyester specific methods (does that matter?)

Have also read I need to wet the entire seat slightly with that mixture and let it dry evenly, does this sound ok?

Thank you in advance!!

General Cleaning What are these lines above the baseboard and floors?

Post image
1 Upvotes

This is my first cleaning job, so I’m still learning despite advice from folks and cleaning under a woman for a different house. But as for this one, I am cleaning a house for an elderly woman and I was wiping down the baseboards when I noticed my rag was leaving these lines. I stopped immediately and took this picture and didn’t touch it. I’m horrified I may have stained her wall. The baseboards are coated in dirt and I’m not sure if it’s residue from that or the rag… or something else all together. But I am definitely worried. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice? Thank you!

Furniture How to clean dining chairs?

Bought a dining set secondhand. The dining chairs are all extremely sticky in certain areas. Appears to be build-up from grease/body oils since it’s mainly on the parts of the chairs that you touch with your hands.

A little soap and water did nothing. Murphys oil did work but looks like it removed the finish which I’m sad about. I didn’t even really scrub very hard. Hoping I don’t need to refinish all of the chairs…

Furniture Wood table advice

Hi,

I’m looking for a way of getting these marks out of this table. They’re mostly scratches and various ring stains. I’ve tried ring remover which hasn’t done much, and sanding I tried in one section which didn’t work.

I think it is an oak veneer, or it could be fake, I’m not sure. Any advice much appreciated.
