My cat chews carpet, curtains, towels.... and when he sneaks outside he eats spider webs and grass. I think he might be lacking fiber. What is the best way to add fiber to his diet? I am not asking for medical advice. Just wondering why he might be doing this.

I have two cats, both neutered and indoor.

The youngest is 10 y/o, I'm worried he might be a bit underweight, I've always bought a nice food for neutered indoor cats, but a few years ago changed to a senior food for indoor cats that are 7 or older, from the same brand, which is quite recommended by veterinarians here (I don't know if I can name the brand here or if anyone might recognize it since I'm from south america and I think it's a local one).

I was wondering if I could give him kitten food, I've read that it could improve his weight since it tends to have more calories.

He loves treats, and we give him his recommended daily dose, also he's not a big fan of churu since my husband accidentallly squeezed the tube too hard and some reached one his eyes, now he runs from churus :)

The one is a long haired 11 y/o who has a really nice weight, after being quite thin for a couple years, but it could be hard to give him kitten food, I'm afraid he could turn overweight (he loves churus and hates dry treats).

They both have plates with food available 24/7, I change it everyday, putting the old food in a can with some fresh to keep it smelly and never had a problem like this before.

They drink plenty of water (the younger one using his paw most of the time)

Hi all! I adopted a second kitty yesterday, and currently have her in a separate room from the resident cat. I don't know her exact age, but she looks to be 8-10 months old from what I can tell. She hid as soon as i let her out of her carrier, which I fully expected to happen, but every time i go to check in on her, she seems terrified of me and it breaks my heart. She hisses and growls until I leave the room :( is there any way I can help her not feel so threatened by me? It breaks my heart seeing her so scared. I haven't attempted to get too close nor have i tried touching her yet because I've heard approaching them can make it worse and potentially cause more stress. I know it's only been a day, but seeing her this scared makes me so sad and I want to help her in any way that I can

Long story short, my sweet 8-year-old tabby can't come with me as I take care of some family matters and become a carer for a family member who is super allergic to cats. A family member has a friend with a teenage daughter who has always wanted a cat, and that family agreed to take her. I just rehomed her yesterday, and I am so upset that her last few hours with me were spent soiling herself during travel, the poor thing!!!

She is an amazing cat. I know this in my heart. So why am I so worried her new family won't love her? I am terrified they will send her to a shelter without telling me, or letting me try to find another home for her. I don't know them very well, but they do have my phone number in case they need anything. I know she's not a perfect cat (she is not amazing at covering in the litter box, she will scratch furniture, mastermind at convincing you you forgot to feed her so she can get seconds...), but she was MY BABY, and now she's NOT. I won't wake up to her licking my arm as a good morning, I won't hear her yowling as she runs down the hallway with her zoomies, I won't feel her purrs reverberate in my chest as she lies on top of me while we nap.

Every instinct in my body is telling me to ask for daily updates, but I don't want to bombard the new family, and I know I have to move on. I'm overwhelmed, and I'm already a person with questionable mental fortitude. Am I in the right to ask for updates on her? Even monthly? It is not the plan for me to be able to take her back given the weight of the family issues that could last a year or two, maybe more. I worry her new family won't love her as much as I loved her, with my whole soul.

Please, anyone who has had to rehome a cat you loved, I could use a shred of hope. Does it get easier?

I have a 10 month old kitten named Wensley. We've had Wensley about 4 months now, she is an ex-feral that was socialized later than she should have been.

Wensley is a darling but she is OBSESSED with chewing. I have never met a cat like Wensley. She will bite ANYTHING. Literally this morning I found that she had gotten up on the kitchen counter last night while we were asleep and she bit a RAW shallot you guys (yes, I know shallot/onion/garlic is toxic to cats. She is fine. She didn't actually eat anything.)

She chews anything and everything. It doesn't matter what it is. Books, cardboard, plastic, wood. Anything goes. In addition to the shallot she also chewed a hard plastic remote control for a fan last night.

She has also chewed action figures, my kitchen mats, coozies for drinks, a card board box I left out on my night stand... she just destroys anything she can get inside her mouth. She even wants to chew on me (she regularly tries to nibble my arms and hands when being petted).

I have definitely encountered some puppies that chew like this, but never a cat. What gives? Does anyone have any training recommendations for this?

Oh, also, she has started to curb these behaviors to at night when we are asleep exclusively because she's very clever and has learned if we catch her we'll take the item away from her.

Hi all,
For the past week (since Monday) my mom, who I live with, has been in the hospital for some days now. One of the two cats, Zen, in the house is already close to her time of passing (probably) due to an almost decade’s long fight with feline diabetes. Her physical activity and appetite have plummeted since my mom left for the hospital. This specifically affects Zen because she is very close to my mom and spends most of her day within an arms reach of her. We absolutely cannot afford another vet visit on top of my mom being at the hospital, but I am terrified of us losing zen before my mom gets back. Do you guys think that me being in proximity with zen and giving her more attention than I usually do is enough to curb the feline depression? (14 years old tuxedo cat) I just wish there was a way for her to know that my mom is still alive and will probably be home within a day or two (optimistically).

Edit: I want to specify that I am not asking for medical advice, just if more attention is going to be enough.

My mom got a cat (luna) while I was in college and I eventually moved back home into a house with 2 others cats and my mom told me if I didn’t take her cat she’d give her away so I took her in. She only got along with one of the cats and now that cat has moved away. While she was with me I got Luna spayed so my mom was fine with taking her back. The other cat hated Luna so I figured it’d be best if she went back with my family since she knows them well. I’d like to add that Luna had no attachment to me and did not hang around me at all. So I didn’t think she’d mind moving back in with my family that loves her. Luna seems very sad and has white fur all over (previously very dark) I am now thinking this wasn’t the right choice but I didn’t want her around a cat who was always fighting with her while she was just trying to play. It’s been about a month since I brought her back to my mom’s. I don’t want her to be sad anymore. Do I just wait it out and see how it turns out?

My new cat is 2 years old. I got him a few days ago and he is the sweetest thing ever. He doesn't cry at all during the day but at night he cries if me and my boyfriend are not in the same room. He cries whenever my boyfriend leaves for work but will soon come back to bed. But when we first lay down at night he cries for a while. He has food, water, and access to his litter box at night. He's not very big on toys or anything but he has them if he chooses to play with things. We keep all the doors open at night so he can roam wherever he chooses. How can I help him or make him happier at night time?

Help! I lost my soul kitty at the end of last year. We have two other cats (5 and 11 y/o) who seemed to be missing a piece of themselves after (as were we) and we have the means to adopt another animal, so a few months after soul kitty passed we adopted a 6 month old kitten. The introduction phase was stressful as usual, but they graduated from that and have been able to *mostly* peacefully coexist ever since.

The issue that's come to a head recently is: the kitten picks on the 5 year old, who is smaller than she is, relentlessly. Not all day long, but around peak cat times (dawn/dusk/when she's hungry and trying to get attention....) she will stalk and chase and tackle this poor girl and usually clamps down on some of her back fur and walks away with it in her mouth. She's not breaking the skin, but my older cat screeches and is obviously unhappy. She runs away from the (now one year old) kitten which kitten LOVES and sees as an invitation to bully her more. Now, when only the kitten would do this it was manageable, we separate them as needed, give them each love and attention, redirect, and they can go back in the same room with each other within a few minutes. Over time these incidents were becoming less common. We thought were were over the hump.

But within the last week, my oldest cat has seemed to get confused about who the aggressor is. He has typically intervened only when his long time sister is obviously in need of backup, which I interpreted as him being protective. He would NEVER treat her the way the kitten does on his own. But he has also started stalking and chasing her to the point I shot out of bed last night to the sound of a fight, initiated by him. He's never done this in his entire life, even to cats he meets on day 1.

I obviously am just scratching the surface for the sake of the length of this post, but I am at a loss. We thought we could work through the aggressive play on the kittens part, but if our older 20 pounder is getting involved, this really puts my 5year old in a dangerous position. When we separate the kitten from the two older cats, they go back to their peaceful nature immediately. It feels as if the kitten's aggression is rubbing off on the oldest cat and that gives me heavy anxiety.

We feel like we have tried everything and are at a decision point now. We can't realistically keep them separated forever, our house is not set up for that. But the thought of rehoming the kitten also breaks my heart. On the same token, nothing has worked: positive reinforcement, reintroduction, timeouts, redirection, literal HOURS of play every day, pheromone plug ins, puzzle games, we feel like we have tried it all. Has anyone been in a similar situation? What did you do?

Hello! Just as the title says, i am moving into a new apartment soon with my cat! She is 3 years old and is indoor only. The few times she has been transported in vehicles for vet appointments she has HATED it!!! I don’t want to put any extra stress on her as i know adjusting to a new environment will already be stressful enough. I am seeking advice on the best ways to make her comfortable/make the distance bearable for her!! She is my perfect angel and i want her to be happy and healthy! Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Ever since a neighbor started leaving food out, my cat has gotten into the habit of wandering over there every day. I feed my cat everyday well just don’t know how to break this habit

Hi! I’m moving in a few weeks and I’m unsure what would be best for my cat. I was thinking of taking him to the new place the night before I move so he can be out of the way for movers and hopefully he’ll be a lot less stressed. But I also feel bad having him spend the night alone in a new place. Any thoughts? I unfortunately don’t think I have anyone who could take him for the night but I am open to potentially boarding him. I just want whatever will be the least stressful for him! I was a finalist for a cat that ultimately went to another couple. I met her three times and regret not adopting her during the first visit but I’m a classic overthinker. It’s been a year since I lost my sweetest cat, my first ever.

I want to continue looking for cats but I’m getting fatigued and of course now dealing with the would coulda shoulda’s about this cat I didn’t get a chance to adopt.

Should I take a break?

My 7 month kittens got spayed yesterday. I’ve had to cone them and crate them due to high activity levels, they hate being in the crate, but I have no other choice. Realistically when can I let my cats out the crate. 10-14 days seem way too long for them to be crated 22 hours of the day. I just ordered them a large play pin it will be bigger, but they want to just be free.

Making my first post here because we need some help with our beloved cat who started spraying a few months ago.

Here is our situation. We have 1 old cat (16 years, neutered) and two younger brothers (2 years old, both neutered at 6 months old). We live in a house with a lot of space, many places to sleep and no children or anything else that can cause stress inside the house. We don't have a garden but they go outside in our neighbors garden (they don't mind) and they go a bit further in front of the house because there is a square with trees and grass, so people walk their dogs there and there are other cats walking there too. They are always friendly with the other cats and it's not a super busy area.

One of the brothers started spraying since last April. When we found out we took a sample of his urine to the vet and found out he had crystals in his urine. We gave him special food and medication and went back to the vet with him and in the end his urine was clean. He also got an echo to see if there was anything else going on but they said he was completely healthy again! Yay!

Unfortunately, after this the spraying didn't stop. He sprays once or twice a day and it's sometimes in the same spot but also quite regularly in other / new spots. Here is what we have done so far:
- We have 4 litter boxes (3 XL litter boxes 1 normal size) that are all clean. We have 2 downstairs and the other two are located on the second and third floor.
- We have Feliway Anti-Stress in the outlets of the rooms where he is the most
- We use the special urine spray that out vet recommended to clean the area and get rid of the enzymes
- Our vet gave medication that he gets once per day that should relax him
- We bought a blue light to check spots for urine to make sure it's really clean
- We keep the curtains closed so he can't look outside to prevent stress from other cats
- For the last week we kept him inside so there is no contact with other cats to see if it would get better

When he needs to pee or poop he does it in the litterbox so there is no problem there. He is eating and drinking well, and he plays daily with his brother and with us and we make sure to give him lots of attention too. I work from home and while I'm at work he is always sleeping in the cat tree next to my desk, completely comfortable and happy.

Right now we are also sending an email to a behavior therapist to see if they can help, but I hope that maybe people here have tips too. We really don't know what to do anymore and could really use the help because right now we are getting anxious when we have to leave for a day or go to sleep at night because we don't know what we will find in the morning.

I know everyone asks this but I need litter recommendations. Here’s my situation. I have 2 cats, use stainless steel boxes and the litter genie. We currently use Special Kitty Litter from Walmart. It’s not the best litter but we had great luck with it for the past year or so and it’s the only one I could stand the smell of. However, they must have changed their formula because after a few uses it starts to smell extremely strong of chemicals (not cat pee, not poop) literally burning your nose chemically smell. I need something that clumps extremely well, no dust and light tracking. I also need something that does not have a scent but does well as covering odors. I can’t stand the smell of cat litter even when it’s brand new.

Hello everyone I’ve had my baby spirit for about 7 years now. I’m all he’s ever known and he’s the only cat that i could personally call my own. I believe he’s a good cat with a big personality. However, recently I’ve moved houses and my cat has been trying to adjust to his new surroundings but I can tell he has been stressed out. I go to work and come right back home but my mom tells me while I’m at work he cries for me and he hisses at the people in my house. She’s been complaining a lot more and as the head of the house she has been threatening to get rid of my cat. She says he cries too much and he’s mean to everyone, she also doesn’t like the smell of the cat box even though she has another cat and I’m the only one who changes it. She has made multiple threats to get rid of my cat or even submit him to the humane society. I really try my best every day after work to give him love and affection and do everything in my power so she doesn’t get rid of him but I’m afraid what I’m doing is still not enough for my mom to let me keep my cat. I need some help or advice, please I don’t wanna be forced to get rid of my baby.

My boyfriend and I live in an apartment and the only issue I have with this apartment complex is that there’s only 1 window but it doesn’t open. So you HAVE to open your balcony door if you want to have fresh air. We put up one of those magnetic mesh doors so we could keep the bugs out but now we’re getting ready to get 2 kittens and we want to be able to open that door but I’m worried they will either
1. Climb it
2. Launch themselves through it
3. Or try to go through the bottom
There’s about an inch of space between the mesh doors and the floor. I’m hoping there’s someone else with this issue and can give some advice on either training them to not want to go outside or if someone bought something like the mesh door or something.

Hello, I'm a bit desperate and need help.

One of my cats is going to be rehomed and I'd like to avoid that. (I don't think its possible at this point, I don't know. I didn't do that well in taking care of them.) She's been pooping outside the box for months and I've tried multiple litter boxes, types of litters, cleaning them often, and taking her to the vet. Her bloodwork is fine.

She keeps pooping outside the box and it's been on and off for months. I've gotten her all the toys, and play with her as often as I can (she's with her sister, they're about a year old.)

I don't know what to do, I've tried all the advice from the vets and the internet, I have a therapist-suspected adhd and I'm so very awful at dealing with schedules and trying to manage it, even for my cats. I feed wet food them twice a day, once before noon and once in the evening (not always at the same time, but within a few hours). They have dry food to snack on. Everyone is angry since my cats live in my parents house and I've tried to keep them, but they've been having these pooping issues. I don't know...

The two cats have two litter boxes on one side of the upper floor (where I sleep, their towers are there), two on the other side of the main floor (where we work), one on the main floor, two on the basement. They will use the boxes on the main floor the most. The cat who is having issues (her sister is doing fine) poops right next to the box, either in the mornings or in the evenings.

I've tried different types of litters. The cat attracting formulas, unscented ones, scented ones, pine litters, tofu litters, corn litters. They seem to like the corn one the most, and I've tried pellets and different clay litters. Even after doing a full deep-clean of the box, wiping it and refreshing the litter entirely, she'll poop right outside the box.

I've fed her extra liquids with her food, she has a water fountain, and I feed her some fish oil with a treat. I have siblings that play with them extra and clicker train them. (The two of them seem to enjoy it, and overall the cat with the pooping issue is overall such a happy playful cat, super cuddly and loving otherwise.)

If you all have any advice for pooping issues where it's a desperation 'what on earth do I try after this', I'd greatly appreciate it.

3 cats total. Our youngest (3 year male & neutered) goes after both cats. Our oldest male (4 years. neutered) also attacks our female cat constantly (3.5 years spayed). We have litter boxes in separate rooms/floors, feed (wet & dry food) in separate rooms x2 a day (youngest is food obsessed and seeks out food constantly). We have the youngest on Prozac, however we only give him half since it seems to make him extremely sleepy. We play with them, let them outside supervised, etc. We have feliway sprays throughout the home, calming bites, etc. Whenever attack happens (multiple times throughout the day amongst them), we separate the cats in different rooms. At times when we are gone, we will leave the female cat in a closed room that she is comfortable with for eating & littering. She seems to only go to high places in the home as the others will seek her out. This has been going on for 2 years now. Am I missing anything? Is it going to be this way forever? Please help. Thank you!

Tried shouting, screaming , ignoring (between he bites and him self goes away), water spray, nose touch...nothing working.
