Megathread Monthly Casual Talk and Cat Pictures Thread

Our subreddit allows posts that either a) ask for specific advice, b) request emotional support, or c) are a guide or PSA that adheres to our guidelines.

Since it's fun to just casually discuss our cats, we've got this monthly megathread where relevance may be ignored. All other subreddit rules still apply.

Use this thread to discuss anything related to cats that doesn't otherwise fit the subreddit! Also feel free to ask questions that you believe are too short for a standalone post.

Examples of things that may be discussed or shared here:

  • Casual questions, for example "how does your cat show affection?", "does your cat ever do … ?"
  • Cat pictures
  • Celebrating birthdays or other milestones for your cat
  • And many more subjects!

General Cat tasted juice.

Hello all. I have the habit of showing my cat everything I’m holding. Today I showed my cat a cherry capri sun and to both of our surprise, instantly sank her teeth into it like a vampire, puncturing it and squirting it everywhere. Although there wasn’t an opportunity to necessarily ‘drink’ it, she did get a nice drip/taste (roughly a tea spoon amount) on her mouth/face and I feel terrible about it. As of now (20 minutes later), she’s acting perfectly normal and content. I did give her a spot of dry food as a treat to help get the taste out of her mouth because I’m sure she didn’t appreciate it.
Of course my concerns lie within the high sugar content and other ingredients, I would like to reiterate that it seems obvious something like that could happen but I didn’t think that she would as it’s the first time she has and I know that it is 100% my fault. She’s kinda the center of my universe and I live my life around her.
I know that I might sound like a crazy helicopter cat mom and I hope that I am.
Thank you!

Edit: THANK YOU ALL for the comments and information! She didn’t die of evil cherry capri sun-itis and is currently photosynthesizing in the sun, plotting girl-bossingly how to puncture future liquid containers. She now cannot be killed by conventional weapons.

Rehoming Am I being a selfish cat parent

Hi I need some advice on what I should do. I have two lovely cat babies who mean everything to me and sometimes I sound silly for saying this but when I was at my lowest I felt like they were all I had so I feel very bonded to them.
The problem is I live at my mom’s house and my cats aren’t allowed outside of my room due to my mom and sister having allergies. I make sure my cats have clean litter always, they have a feeding schedule, a water fountain, toys for when I am at work and playtime when I’m home, cat tree etc. I spoil them lol but I can’t help but feel guilty about the situation because my room is very small :( and I feel like they just deserve a better living space. And finding my own apartment is hard right now because of the debt I have. Needless to say I feel stuck between wanting them to have a better home or staying in my small room because I love them so much.
I just don’t want them to become sad or depressed because they are confined. What do you guys think?

Edit: Wow thank you all for your encouraging words and helpful solutions. It is all deeply appreciated and I do believe I should probably put my creative skills to use as well! You guys are all very kind and helpful! ❤️

Pet Loss I made the awful appointment this morning and I’m just really struggling. CW: Pet Loss Spoiler

I got my baby when I got my first apartment and he has been with me through so much. It shouldn’t have shocked me the first time he was called a senior cat, and I’m trying to remember that he IS 17, and is facing several health issues.

It has been so devastating to watch him decline, but I’ve been hopeful he will bounce back as he has before, but it’s just not happening this time.

It really hit me last night. He has stopped grooming himself for the past 2 months, so I’ve been brushing and giving him sponge baths. His legs buckled when I went to wipe him down, and it just hit me. He isn’t getting better this time. He’s still eating which had been the hope I’ve been clinging too, but he’s just so frail and so skinny.

I’m just heartbroken and dreading Monday. I’m afraid that maybe there’s a chance he will improve but I also don’t want to be selfish and let him suffer longer. I went back and looked at every video and photo I’ve taken of him and seeing just how much he has changed really sealed the deal. It’s not going to go back to normal. I’m hoping he will jump back up on the bed and want to sleep on my face again. I want him to run to greet me again and paw at my legs to be picked up and held. I want to hold him and feel him melt into my arms and purr so hard he drools again but I know it isn’t going to happen.

How do I make peace with this? How do I tell him I’m so sorry I couldn’t do more?

New to Cats/Just Adopted Should I continue letting my newly adopted 3 month old kitten sleep in my bed with me?

I just adopted a cat 2 days ago. I left my bedroom door open the first night but struggled to sleep because it was prime playtime for her.

The second night I closed it initially but read a similar question here that made me change my mind and open the door again. Something about a kitten having just been taken away from her mom and siblings being so young. Made me feel guilty.

Now I've also read people recommending the exact opposite and that you shouldn't make a habit out of letting your cat sleep in your bed but let her know to spend the night in her own room where she has everything except me at night.

She meowed and complained a lot during the second night when I initially had the door closed before opening it. She seems so lonely and I feel guilty since she just went from having a mother and 4 brothers at night and I'm not sure if I should let her sleep in my room or have her be completely alone at night

General Feeling some regrets over getting my cats, despite having had them for years with no issue. Super guilty.

I know I am going to get flamed for this because I sound like an evil pos. I just HAVE to vent it somewhere and I’m hoping anyone understands at all.

Whenever I see post about regretting pets, its always from people who have not had them long. I looked far and wide for a post about suddenly regretting them years later and couldn’t find a single one. But thats where I am at right now.

I have had my two cats for a few years, both since kittens. They have been my babies, my lifeline.

Since having them, we have only lived in small studios. I mention that now to say, when it comes to everything I am about to say, the small studio space is not a new issue entirely. We lived in only studios before this one that was SO small, people thought it was a joke. It was a closet. I covered the walls in cat shelves to make it work, it looked like a cat cafe enclosure. I had no issue having pets in a small space, it’s all I have ever known- and even in the micro closet place, it worked. That was short term luckily and I moved out despite my rent doubling solely for their sake, so they had room to play more.

But there are two important differences between my last 3 studios versus this new one. My last few had a type of flooring that didn’t really transfer sound. And, I was on the first floor. This time, it’s a cheap crappy flooring where you hear your neighbors every step AND we are on the third floor. It’s my first time ever living on a top floor with bad flooring and I had NO idea how bad sound transferring was. I would not have signed here if this was something I knew I needed to take into account.

So- something about moving to this new apartment, I have no idea what triggered it, but they act way more insane. I honestly think it’s BECAUSE the noise the walls and floors make, I think they like it. I can’t think of a single other explanation for a sudden change in behavior.  It’s parkour non stop, wrestling, running across the room, like someone gave them stimulants in their wet food. All hours of the day and night. I work night shift, so I sleep during the day. As for night, I got a noise complaint from my neighbor my first week here about how loud they are at night. I hadn’t unpacked my rugs yet at that point so I think it’s a *little* better now.  Not only am I not sleeping during the day, I also have insane anxiety about my neighbors complaining at night.

It doesn’t sound like cats, it sounds like adult humans running laps wall to wall, and slamming into the walls in-between sets. And again- I know some cats are just like this, but mine HAVEN’T been. For YEARS. I used to brag about how chill my cats were.

My cats are not vocal at all, one never meows. The other only when she hears the wet can food being opened.  Well- since moving here, she now meows randomly and loudly for food when I am sleeping. She just stands there staring at me until I acknowledge her and no, I do not give in. I always stick to her schedule. They are eating enough, the schedule and method of feeing has not changed at all, and they were recently at the vet and nothing was amiss. I have no explanation behind why she suddenly turned into a garbage disposal wanting to eat non stop. She went back to trying to break into cabinets and stuff too, something she has not done since she was a kitten. I will be asleep then hear something crash and it’s her rummaging through the kitchen.

Some big changes have happened in my life (that have no end in the near future) that I won’t dive into, but sleep is now a lot harder to get even without the cats. When I can get some rest, it’s really important that I do because god knows when it’s coming back. I am actually starting to get physically ill from lack of sleep. Which isnt ONLY the cats faults, but they are a huge factor. It’s making me insane. Today, I needed it REALLY bad. I got none yesterday, I will get none tomorrow (again, life things out of my control , not me just being lazy staying up cus I have no discipline) so I knew I needed it today. But nope. I got none. That cats were worse than usual today. Its like they senses that I needed it more today than usual.  So now I basically have 3 days in a row of me only taking micro naps, since my cats decided they were a marching band today.

This is a new lease, I can’t move somewhere different. I live in a city where one bedrooms arent obtainable without a trust fund (kidding…kinda) so it’s not like I could get a one bedroom. Even if I could, I am stuck here 9 more months anyways. I do use white noise machines. In fact I use two very loud ones. And headphones. I hide all their toys when I am asleep so there is no bells or jingly in the background. Idk what else to do.

I am starting to resent them so much and I hate that. They are just sweet innocent babies and literally all they are doing is playing, like normal cats do. I just dont understand why its multiplied x50000 the last couple months. And of course it overlapped with those life events I alluded to that mess up my sleep schedule regardless.

My hope is I can switch to day shift soon which will help a lot. I tried, but just got rejected, but I am going to try again in a few months. If I have to get my doctor to write a note, I will- I qualify for disability exceptions, I have a disorder that makes it way more necessary for me to sleep than the average person. Yet here I am. Maybe once I am on day shift and life is less wacky, this will pass.  But I keep waiting for the resentment to pass….and weeks have gone by. And it only grows. It’s making me not want to play with them, or to snuggle them. I still do because I know thats what they deserve, but it’s not purely out of the desire of wanting to anymore.

And I keep looking in the mirror thinking what kind of pos starts hating their pets after having them for years? That is INSANE. And I find myself wondering if there was zero stigma in rehoming pets, and no one would ever find out, would I just do it? Sometimes I lean towards yet. Then I always swing back and beat myself up cus I would never. But I hate that I am even having those thoughts.

The worst part about this post is nothing I Described is bad behavior. They arent having difficult health issues, arent misbehaving, they are simply acting like normal cats. Normal cats that ramped up their energy to an extreme recently, but normal nonetheless. I have had cats my entire life since birth, I volunteered at shelters, Ive cat sat. This is going against everything I have ever known.

Anyways, I am done now. I know I suck.

Litterbox So I bought a PetSafe automatic litter box

I have a question for you guys, does anyone use this litter box? It’s the one with the crystals, and I was wondering if you guys use clumping or non clumping litter with it, and what you guys prefer to use? It’s weird having crystals, as I’m use to scooping tidy cats clumping litter. I plan on buying a stainless steel reusable pan, but I’m just wondering if I should switch from the crystals to something else? Please help! Thank you!!

Update Update! Chicken Tender the cat

Update on this post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/CatAdvice/s/WCssXicyMc

Essentially me and several other friends had a coming to Jesus meeting with this friend. Including her IRL boyfriend. She refused to fix the issue but her boyfriend told her if she didnt give the cat to him they would break up and went over to her house and took the cat.

I've called local shelters etc and they have since banned her. She's since agreed she was not a responsible cat owner and has agreed to not get another cat with all cat responsibilities falling onto her boyfriend.

So Chicken Tender is now in a new home. Her boyfriend already had a cat 🐈 (Lucy) who apparently thinks Chicken Tender is her new boyfriend so they are getting on great. He's sent videos of them running around in cardboard boxes 📦.

No idea if their relationship will last as I'm not close to the boyfriend and they already live like 3 hours away from each other. But at least the cat is safe. I doubt she'll get another because it didnt seem like she liked cat ownership. Still not sure I want to continue being her friend but thats a conversation for another day.

Apparently her boyfriend hadn't realized the extent of the situation and was really upset at her about it. Which is probably the only reason it changed. But the grape vine tells me he is seriously debating ending it with her. So we will see.

General Keeping kittens cool?

Upvotes

It’s about 85 degrees Fahrenheit and 36% humidity where I live. My thermostat only goes to 60 degrees. I do have 3 fans going at all times as well.
How worried should I be about keeping my 4.5 month old cool? I put some churu treats in the freezer so he can have some popsicles and I have multiple bowls of water so he’s hydrated. He’s acting normal, playing, using the litter box, eating, drinking, etc. I just know I’m hot as balls so he probably is too.

Adoption Regret/Doubt To rehome or tough it out?

Help! I lost my soul kitty at the end of last year. We have two other cats (5 and 11 y/o) who seemed to be missing a piece of themselves after (as were we) and we have the means to adopt another animal, so a few months after soul kitty passed we adopted a 6 month old kitten. The introduction phase was stressful as usual, but they graduated from that and have been able to *mostly* peacefully coexist ever since.

The issue that's come to a head recently is: the kitten picks on the 5 year old, who is smaller than she is, relentlessly. Not all day long, but around peak cat times (dawn/dusk/when she's hungry and trying to get attention....) she will stalk and chase and tackle this poor girl and usually clamps down on some of her back fur and walks away with it in her mouth. She's not breaking the skin, but my older cat screeches and is obviously unhappy. She runs away from the (now one year old) kitten which kitten LOVES and sees as an invitation to bully her more. Now, when only the kitten would do this it was manageable, we separate them as needed, give them each love and attention, redirect, and they can go back in the same room with each other within a few minutes. Over time these incidents were becoming less common. We thought were were over the hump.

But within the last week, my oldest cat has seemed to get confused about who the aggressor is. He has typically intervened only when his long time sister is obviously in need of backup, which I interpreted as him being protective. He would NEVER treat her the way the kitten does on his own. But he has also started stalking and chasing her to the point I shot out of bed last night to the sound of a fight, initiated by him. He's never done this in his entire life, even to cats he meets on day 1.

I obviously am just scratching the surface for the sake of the length of this post, but I am at a loss. We thought we could work through the aggressive play on the kittens part, but if our older 20 pounder is getting involved, this really puts my 5year old in a dangerous position. When we separate the kitten from the two older cats, they go back to their peaceful nature immediately. It feels as if the kitten's aggression is rubbing off on the oldest cat and that gives me heavy anxiety.

We feel like we have tried everything and are at a decision point now. We can't realistically keep them separated forever, our house is not set up for that. But the thought of rehoming the kitten also breaks my heart. On the same token, nothing has worked: positive reinforcement, reintroduction, timeouts, redirection, literal HOURS of play every day, pheromone plug ins, puzzle games, we feel like we have tried it all. Has anyone been in a similar situation? What did you do?

New to Cats/Just Adopted The cat distribution system got me but I'm not sure the timing is right

I've been wanting a cat for a few years now but the timing hasn't been quite right (lots of moving around, travel, new jobs, etc). Recently, my brother and his partner found a kitten in their backyard that was pretty young and very sick. Rescue came to pick her up, said she was around 6 weeks, and took her in for care. The rescue center just reached out to me saying that she's been treated, has a clean bill of health, and is ready for adoption if I'm interested in taking her. She's around 9 weeks now and completely adorable.

It absolutely feels like the cat distribution system got me / feels like a destiny cat, but there's a big caveat: I have a LOT of travel in the first month that she would be with me. Some of the trips I can take her with me, but I'm worried that bringing her to new locations will impact her ability to settle. One trip is a weekend at my parents' house nearby but another is a week long visit to see my grandparents. I also have a 10-day trip to Europe in which I would get a friend/cat sitter to stay with her at my house but it just feels cruel to get a kitten and then a few weeks later leave for so long.

However, once this month passes, I have no more travel and can stay at home with her as much as I'd like. I also work from home so even when I'm traveling on weekends I'd be with her during the week.

Is adopting her a terrible idea? I know I could figure out the logistics (cat sitters, getting her in the car, etc.) it's more a question of if this is the right thing to do to a kitten, especially when this month is a critical month for development and bonding. Having a hard time grappling with destiny vs. timing and would appreciate any advice (or even reassurance)!

New to Cats/Just Adopted kitten wont stop following me

Upvotes

Hi!! new to posting on reddit sorry if i format anything weirdly- i got a kitten almost 2 months ago (may 30th) and shes the most cutest thing ever ! i love her so much and i dont mind her following me to places but my brother said she might grow up to get separation anxiety and im a bit worried about that since i start a more intense semester for school in september and wont be able to see her as much

when we first got her she was 3 months old and id be the one who would spend a lot of time with her, cleaning her litter, refilling her food & water and just play for hours w her so she’s definitely bonded with me more than my other family members. shes recently started to sleep on my bed beside me now only at night but otherwise she’ll sleep on my chair or underneath my table. we have cat beds and her whole setup downstairs but she prefers my room which isnt a problem !! but she will be sleeping and once she notices I’ve left the room she immediately comes to follow me :( she likes to sleep under my desk a lot while im studying and whenever i go downstairs to print something i try to leave as quietly as possible but she still figures out ive left and she starts meowing and trying to find me 🥹 im scared im ruining her sleeping cycles since i know kittens need a LOT of sleep and i try to not leave the room while shes sleeping now but is what im doing wrong? me and my family are first time cat owners so all of this is new territory for us

i really don’t want her to get seperation anxiety or anything but ever since my brother mentioned i might be enabling that im a little scared :(
any advice would be greatly appreciated and overall kitten tips would be amazing as well ty everyone 🥹🥹🙏

New to Cats/Just Adopted Any advice for a teenage girl rasing a 2 month old kitten

Hi, so i had two kittens show up at my door, Im sure by the title you can tell I took them in, i think they were dropped off by one of my neighbors, I know they have a brother, hes an orange cat, my dad saw our neighbors walking on our lane with the cat, my dad also saw their mother once, by a shed in my yard, I know nothing about the father. one is grey (stormi), and the other was a diluted calico (lola), Lola passed away, so its just me and stormi.

She has most (i think) of her vaccinations, and recently got spayed (i think thats the female one), I feed her wet and dry kitten food, and shes going to be harnessed trained soon. She has tons of toys that went somewhere, she sleeps with me most of the time (sometimes with my parents). Shes very active, very spoiled, and very very energetic.

My family has two other cats, ones a 22 pound black and white one (moo), and the other is a black cat (katie) me and my parents thought Katie and stormi wouldnt get along, but Katie is deathly afraid of her, stormi chases and harasses her.

Can anyone give me any advice, I just want her to have a comfortable and good life, I really love her and I want to keep her forever, i have never had a cat of my own, so I just want to make sure im doing everything right, sorry for the long post.

Behavioral Cat won’t go downstairs by herself in the morning

Hi! We adopted a little kitty called Buffy a month ago now, she’s about 4/5 years old and has been in rescue twice. We don’t fully know what she’s been through but with us she’s very affectionate, playful and is slowly settling into a routine. There are times where she can become a bit anxious and she’ll approach random items on the floor slowly and then tap them with her paw, she can be quite easily frightened but overall she’s okay.

She sleeps on our bed all night and wakes up around 4:45am, she’s quite relentless with her meowing and you cannot ignore her she’ll do anything to get you up! I’d like her to go downstairs by herself but she just won’t do it, if I get up and go downstairs with her she’ll stop on each stair to make sure I’m still coming down with her. Is there anything I can do to get her to go downstairs alone or is it going to take more time?

Thank you!

Introductions Newly adopted cat and older dog had a spat

We adopted a 2 year old cat yesterday, whose story is that she was in a hoarder situation. She was pregnant when they took her in, had her kittens, and has been weaned off 2 weeks (and her kittens had all been adopted out to other families). She was listed as good with dogs and other cats. She has seemed very calm and happy - we are honestly blown away by how friendly she is. She is eating, using her litter box, and running up to us and cuddling and purring whenever she sees us. We have the dog gate up and the dog upstairs, and the downstairs set up for new kitty. The cat did slip through the dog gate bars, and my dog came over to sniff her (not aggressively) and the cat arched her back, howled, and scratched out. My dog immediately backed off, acted very submissive, and the cat backed off and then let me pick her up and bring her back downstairs.

Our current plan is to keep them separated for the first 3 full days, and then have them together, supervised, while giving treats for positive interactions and having our dog with a collar/leash so we can separate them easily if they are aggressive. But we don't have a way to fully keep the cat off the first floor besides our dog gate, which she can easily get through.

I have two questions - can I have some success stories of cat/dogs who started like this and are now co-habitating peacefully?

And also - because this cat is still somewhat newly postpartum (she is still leaking a little milk) is it possible she is moodier from hormones? I know I was a raging bitch postpartum but didn't know if cats were maybe the same?

Thank anyone who reads and gives me some reassurance. To quote Rosa from Brooklyn 99 - "I have had this cat for a day and a half, and if anything happened to her, I would kill everyone in this room, and then myself"

Nutrition/Water 10 year old cat is a bit on the thin side, can I give him kitten food to get him to an adecuated weight?

Hello!

I have two cats, both neutered and indoor.

The youngest is 10 y/o, I'm worried he might be a bit underweight, I've always bought a nice food for neutered indoor cats, but a few years ago changed to a senior food for indoor cats that are 7 or older, from the same brand, which is quite recommended by veterinarians here (I don't know if I can name the brand here or if anyone might recognize it since I'm from south america and I think it's a local one).

I was wondering if I could give him kitten food, I've read that it could improve his weight since it tends to have more calories.

He loves treats, and we give him his recommended daily dose, also he's not a big fan of churu since my husband accidentallly squeezed the tube too hard and some reached one his eyes, now he runs from churus :)

The one is a long haired 11 y/o who has a really nice weight, after being quite thin for a couple years, but it could be hard to give him kitten food, I'm afraid he could turn overweight (he loves churus and hates dry treats).

They both have plates with food available 24/7, I change it everyday, putting the old food in a can with some fresh to keep it smelly and never had a problem like this before.

They drink plenty of water (the younger one using his paw most of the time)

General I adopted another cat yesterday and she is so scared of me. How can i help her feel more comfortable?

Hi all! I adopted a second kitty yesterday, and currently have her in a separate room from the resident cat. I don't know her exact age, but she looks to be 8-10 months old from what I can tell. She hid as soon as i let her out of her carrier, which I fully expected to happen, but every time i go to check in on her, she seems terrified of me and it breaks my heart. She hisses and growls until I leave the room :( is there any way I can help her feel safe? I don't want to approach her, i've heard doing that can stress them out more. I know it's only been a day since i've taken her in, but seeing her this scared makes me so sad and I want to help her in any way that I can

Sensitive/Seeking Support Smalls a scam?

Upvotes

Alright help. I tried to do the best I could for my senior cat after doing hours of research on food. I finally decided that SMALLS was a healthy match and had good reviews, after putting my order in and being charged I apparently don’t have an account because I’ll try the “magic link” and not once did it log me in or send a verification link.
At this point I don’t even care about getting the food and what I’ve been charged with, I just want the subscription to end and not to be charged in the future. I use chime banking, would contacting them be much help?

General Is Ducray Neoptide Expert safe to use around cats?

I recently bought Ducray Neoptide Expert for hair loss because I can’t use minoxidil , as it’s extremely toxic to cats.
I’m wondering if anyone looked into the ingredients or used it while living with cats?

Update Update to Cat Sitting- should I be getting paid?

Here is what I ended up texting my friend:
"Hey this is random and I don't like to ask this but would you be willing to give me some sort of compensation for cat sitting? | understand I haven't expected anything before but even with working at (redacted) few days a week I'm barely
making anything. I should've asked from the beginning so this wouldn't be so out of the blue but I just feel like I'm being a little taken advantage of considering the average cost for a cat sitter in (redacted) is about $15 an hour and how mucn more it is to spend the night. I never mind watching the girls and staying at your place but it does sometimes become a hassle especially with having Ladybug (my cat) and when it's longer stays. I just feel like I have to set some boundaries if I continue to watch the girls as I just feel like I'm not really getting anything in return :/"

And this is their response:
"Hey, sorry for the late response, we went to dinner with my parents. We wanted to let you know how much we really appreciate you staying with and looking after the girls. We have no problem compensating you for looking after them. However, hearing you say that you feel like we are taking advantage of you and that you think you are not getting anything in return was upsetting. As your friends, we would never want you to feel like we are taking advantage of you. It truly hurts our feelings that you feel that way about us. If this is something that has been on your mind, we wish that you had felt comfortable enough to say something sooner."

Not sure how to feel but I do feel like they're putting it back on me. Thoughts?

Behavioral I just found out my cat is scared of people holding boxes

Upvotes

what do I do how to fix this I found out cuz I held a box up and then she ran away from her spot that she was very comfy in which she wouldn't normally do like at all even when I'm playing music that's pretty loud she wouldn't leave her spot it's not her favorite spot it's like one of them her favorite spot is right next to the basement door I have I didn't know this because she's okay with boxes that are on the floor but she doesn't like people holding them and I've never really hold boxes near her so I never found this out and I have no idea how this fear came to be and I scared her away from her favorite spot I don't know what to do I feel really bad

Edit: she's been my family's cat since she was a kitten so i don't know how or when this fear came to be she's like an older cat not an old old cat but an old one

Rehoming Gonna move in fee months, take my cat with me or keep her with parents?

My cat lives with me and my parents, and we also have two other cats whom she gets along well with. I've had my cat since April of 2016 when she was three months old, so nearly a decade and she and I have bonded soo much. Planning to move from flyover red state to coastal blue state, and I want to take her with me but I currently see pros and cons which I'll list below:

Take Her With Me

- since she's extremely bonded with me and feels immensely comfortable with me, even if everything else chances I'd be that one constant and it's potentially the best constant in her mind

- hopefully it's cool enough in the next three or four months that driving all that ways isn't a problem for her

- my gf (in said coastal blue state) has a cat and potentially they can eventually get along (but upon listing stuff I realize I should check if that's her parent's cat)

- She already has all her shots, is fixed, and is great health and mood (only needing a specific medicine fry food)

If I Leave Her

- she most likely has between 5-10 years left so her obviously not being able to understand me moving and would potentially get somewhat depressed

- even though she'd have me, her whole world (the house she's lived in basically her whole life and my parents she interacts with daily) will be gone and change, to say nothing of being in a cat crate for twelve-ish hours a day for two days might freak her out

- even if only temporarily (be it my gf's cat can move in Sith her or we get a new kitten) my cat will be lonely for a bit, if not a while, and not have the other two cats she's so used to

- studio apartment is smaller than house so less to run around/ explore (especially with fewer things, rooms, and closests to run around/ explore), might end up laying around more

- against my wishes (parents have always partially declawed their cats and made no exception for mine to avoid ruining furniture or injuring other cats that done have them) my cat doesn't have her front set of claws, so even adding another cat could potentially be a problem for her since I would never declaw any cats I adopt but she's not used to playing with cats with front claws, could get hurt

- (this is more selfish on my part) moving from a flyover state to a relatively well-off place, I would wish to go out and explore my new home environment. Between that and any vacations, I would be locked down to being back at my place at certain times to feed her since I possibly wouldn't have anyone (at least for a while) to watch her. Potentially easily solvable and again selfish but figured I'd mention

There may be other things I'm missing right now but I just wanted to put my thoughts to paper and ask here for anyone that may have some expertise on this topic. I guess it boils down to choosing between her having her very bonded to owner but everything else changes and she doesn't know why or everything stays the same for her except her very bonded to owner leave and she doesn't know why, potentially her getting down degree of depression as a result of either.
