Hello all, I have an Orange cat i adopted for a few months. At first he was very calm and receptive to his environment, mostly just slept and went outside once every few days. He didn't meow much if rarely and always quietly. As time went on he became more territorial, wanting to go out more and more. He will do everything to sneak out and meow loudly until let out or giving him attention. I WFH and i try play with him and give him as much attention as possible. I have been going through some life problems and his has been driving me a bit crazy.

I feel bad because i can't let him go out, he will meow angry at me a lot and there is nothing i can do. I live in Sydney and people here could not be worse drivers if they tried. I can't let him out because i'm afraid he will get hit by a car, there is also Myna birds that gang up on him and swoop him when he is outside. I feel that he is naturally an outside cat and maybe he would be suited to another home which can provide for that more.

I am not sure what else i can do at this point, I have tried my best to provide for him but i feel as if it isn't enough from him meowing constantly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

okay, i adopted my cat last October and he's one year old now. However, throughout the time he's with me, he has never willingly gone outside. He only dare to stand few feet behind the door and immediately rush back inside. I took him out twice to my dad's place and he struggled and tried to fight back alot, but completely at ease when he got home. I can understand he just simply doesn't want to, but this is still worrying me a lot.

He shows no signs of depression or distress, i think so. He's still playing around, a HUGE big back, a fucking chud and sleeping fine. I try to stay home as much as i can to play with him, but well, i still have works and study.

i do consider to adopt another cat, since he likes playing and simply having another cat around him, but my mum doesn't agree and not to mention about the finances. Sooo, i really don't know what to do.

A bit of a vent post

Its what the titel says, ive (after two years of planning and about half a year of searching) adopted two little kittens. They moved in about three days ago and I was very exited and happy about this. First evening erverything was fine, they explored my flat, I played and cuddled with them until they were getting tired and then did normal stuff by myself. The problem started that night when I realised that I wasnt able to sleep with them in the same room. The purring was to loud for me and I couldnt move in my bed like normal, because I worried to squish them. After I put them outside my bedroom i was able to sleep a bit, but was worried about what they would do on their own and had a bad concence because i left them alone on their first night. Since starting the first day they were fully at my place I wasnt able to wind down and constantly full of worry. I couldnt even watch afull minute of a video or read half a page of a book without looking what they are doing. By yesterday i was fully exhausted and just constantly crying. I hadnt, and still dont have any interest to do something with them and everything i had to do and that they do seems to just annoy me. My mother now moved into my flat for a few days to take care of them while i sit in my familyhome to get a bit distance and sleep.

I really love cats and am always the first person to stop and try to pet every random cat I see or catsit for friends, even though i never had cats of my own. They are also never doing anything worring or demanding my attention, probably the best kittens i could have ever asked for.

Has anyone else had an experience like this and does it ever get better?

Edit: they are 12 weaks old and my flat is fully catproofed, they also dont do anything that they shouldnt.

I should've asked from the beginning so this wouldn't be so out of the blue but I just feel like I'm being a little taken advantage of considering the average cost for a cat sitter in (redacted) is about $15 an hour and how mucn more it is to spend the night. I never mind watching the girls and staying at your place but it does sometimes become a hassle especially with having Ladybug (my cat) and when it's longer stays. I just feel like I have to set some boundaries if I continue to watch the girls as I just feel like I'm not really getting anything in return :/"

"Hey, sorry for the late response, we went to dinner with my parents. We wanted to let you know how much we really appreciate you staying with and looking after the girls. We have no problem compensating you for looking after them. However, hearing you say that you feel like we are taking advantage of you and that you think you are not getting anything in return was upsetting. As your friends, we would never want you to feel like we are taking advantage of you. It truly hurts our feelings that you feel that way about us. If this is something that has been on your mind, we wish that you had felt comfortable enough to say something sooner."

Not sure how to feel but I do feel like they're putting it back on me. Thoughts?

I have had her for two months. She’s incredibly nervous. I have no way of knowing if she’s eating/drinking/using the litter boxes bc I have other cats. She could not have gotten out (doorbell camera and door exits to inside, not outside). All my windows have screens. The vents are all in tact and on the ceiling.
I have looked:
-behind and on the fridge and on top of fridge
-in and under the couch (completely took apart and removed linings)
-behind the stove
-in all closets
-under and in the bed
-in the litter boxes
-in my dresser drawers and behind the drawers
-under the dresser
-in the cat tree
-in all cabinets in kitchen and bathroom

My apartment is not that big. I am stressing out. I’ve left wet food out, played cat noises, etc. She won’t show face. I have not seen her in a week, which is not atypical of her, but before this I knew she was in my couch and would do daily checks. She got spooked last week, ran into my kitchen, and vanished.

I've heard really mixed reviews about the Applaws brand and I have no idea if they are safe for cats or not. Are the treats safe for consumption?

To preface this, and I don’t know how much of a difference it’d make, but we live back out in the middle of nowhere, on a big farm, in the middle of the middle of nowhere. So unfortunately people dump animals around here like crazy and it’s very tough to keep up with fixing anyone before the reproduce, so I know it’s a problem..
Anyways, about a week ago, one of my (indoor, around 5 years old) cats had 3 kittens, all doing well. And Last night one of our barn cats (about 3 years old) had a couple of premature kittens.. well.. neither of them made it.. but the problem arose Immediately and I have NEVER see this before (I’ve seen Mothers eat one or two of their young, but never this) one of out indoor/outdoor young females (just over a year old) ate the premature kittens, absolutely awful. But the problem Now is that she is coming inside and Aggressively going after the week old, healthy kittens. I have never see this behavior from her before last night/this morning. Absolutely WTF is this behavior and what do I do about it???

As the title says, my neutered male 4 year old cat keeps trying to mount my unspayed 1 year old female, who is currently in heat.

I CANNOT get her spayed, at least not yet-- the vet isn't comfortable doing it due to her having a low platelet count. There is risk she would not clot correctly and could die or experience major complications during surgery We are trying to diagnose the cause but I need advice in the meantime or in the case that spaying can never happen.

Should I keep them separated? Allow it? Chase him off every time he tries? Any advice would be helpful.

She's 11, indoor only, uses her scratching post every day. But clippers? She screams and fights like I'm murdering her.

I've tried the towel, treats, doing one nail while she sleeps. Gave up a long time ago.

I'm on my own and my hands shake too much for a fighting cat anyway.

Lately I keep reading scary things about claws growing into paw pads and now I can't stop worrying about it.

So what's the truth? If your cat won't be handled, what do you actually do? And has anyone's cat ever actually had a problem from never being trimmed?

Hi yall! So , I'm getting a cat from a breeder that just had one of her cats to die of FIP. It was under the care of the new owners and she said none of her cats have genetic Fip, so i don't know what to think or do. I put down a deposit on a kitten and now I'm so worried something will happen. Is it pretty common for most cats to have the coronavirus? I'm also getting another kitten to be so they can be supportive to each other, so should I get her checked for coronavirus? Not asking medical advice.

I’ve recently been tasked with caring for an orphaned kitten, probably less than a week old, for the past two days. She pooped once yesterday, but now she won’t, even after up to 3 minutes of stimulating her anus with a piece of warm damp toilet paper. However, something to take into account if it helps, her bottle nipple was releasing milk very slowly, so I widened it slightly so it can flow easier. I believe this might have been a problem earlier, as she would nurse for a while, with little milk gone. But after the new cut to the nipple, she cleaned up the whole bottle. But is she going to be okay? I’m going to take her to a shelter to be properly fostered tomorrow, but I’m worried on whether or not she’ll make it through the night

UPDATE: I tried the triangle method, I believe she might’ve been constipated because she pooped afterwards. And trust me, she pooped plenty

Hi all, I’m considering rehoming one of my cats. She is 5, adopted as a kitten & gets along with my 6 year old cat. She has always been skittish but since having children she stays in the basement (they have cat beds, food/water, cat tree, windows down there) until the kids go to bed. She is spending maybe an hour or so with me before I go to bed. Some nights I don’t get to give her any attention. She doesn’t seem stressed or anything, eats normally, etc. I am considering rehoming her to someone who could give her more attention. She LOVES being pet. I just don’t know if that would be more stressful for her. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

My almost 9 year old has begged for a kitten for literally years. I have finally agreed that she can have one for her birthday. I'm aware, however, that standard advice is often to have two kittens adopted at once. But, I'm wondering if one kitten is enough...so to speak...given what I consider to be a highly empathetic child who is such a natural caretaker and I really believe will never tire or be bored by a kitten. I have seen her in action in other scenarios and she is the most conscientious and tender-hearted kid on the planet when it comes to animals. She's reading cat fact books and kitten encyclopedias, informing me at every moment what we have to do in order to make the kitten happy and safe. :) She dreams of just holding, playing, cuddling, sleeping with (if the kitten is agreeable), etc.

Given how much attention I am certain will be spent upon this kitten, is it necessary to get two? I mean, obviously she will be at school all day. I work from home on zoom about five hours, four days a week, so won't be available except to maybe cuddle the kitten in my lap while I'm meeting with people.

I grew up with cats, and I remember loving them very much. However, I don't love litter boxes, and I have a nose that is a super sniffer and I don't relish having double the cat scent in my home....so to speak. We live in a three bedroom townhome, and I don't want to get overwhelmed with sensory overload after making a big commitment.

Given how tirelessly enthusiastic and relentlessly interactive my kiddo will be when she's at home with the kitten.....will that be enough to create a happy kitten with good social behaviors?

The past couple weeks my cat has been running out my door everytime I open it. I live in an apartment, so thankfully all I have to do is run down the hall and grab her, but it’s been extremely frustrating. She has never done this before up until recently, which makes me question WHYYY??
I’ve tried treats, moving her to another area, putting her on a high surface, but that hasn’t worked.
Does anyone have any tips? I’ve been getting super annoyed. It’s frustrating when I’m leaving for work, have a bunch of stuff in my hands then having to chase after my cat.

So about a year ago we found a cat roaming our yard meowing for food and pets. We brought him inside and has been part of our family ever since a couple of months ago my dad's coworker had a cat roaming her yard. We decided to take her in too, sad to say the introduction did not go well. She hid underneath the couch and he kept repeatedly biting her. So we brought her to my parents room. After awhile we noticed she was getting fat. At the time I was getting ready for brain surgery so we didn't have the chance to take her to the vet yet, she was acting normal too so we were going to take her to the vet when everything settled down. One night my mom checked my dads closet and guess what was there. Three newborn kittens.

So her and her three kittens have been in my parents room with all the essentials ever since. (Side note my other cat is neutered so he's not the baby daddy). We tried reintroducing her and my male cat and he kept biting her an she was hissing and not having a good time. We found homes for the kittens, we just have to wait for them to be older to get them away from mama cat. Is there any advice on what we should do about my two cats getting along.

I feel like vets are useless. My kitten (~3mo) has had soft stool for about 1.5 weeks now (only using the litter half the time) and they don’t wanna test him for anything else except parasites. And when we did, lo and behold, he didn’t have any. When I mentioned the stool was still mushy, the vet said “oh well it’s not parasites” yeah no shit 😭

His behavior is perfectly normal other than shitting outside of his litter like twice a day, but I feel like vets do things one by one to drain more money outta you 😭 I was feeding him pumpkin puree and they said to stop even tho it was making his poop more solid.

I’m wondering if any of you guys had a similar incident and what you did to make the poop solid. I’m all ears.

(Truthfully, I did take him to a cheaper vet bc money is tight this month, but damn I didn’t think it’d be so much of a difference!)

I just adopted a 6 years old Ragdol Male 2 months ago and I already had an 8 years old Scottish Fold. I know that new cat needs time to get used to new environment especially also to a household that has another cat.

My ragdoll is a very energetic cat, which is unusual for an adult ragdoll personality that I have known of, seems to be relaxed but he has had soft stool since day 1 and not improved yet (maybe due to stress and 6 but he seems playful, eating and drinking normally, seeking attention everyday). I have tried : Calming care Purina/ Pumpkin Puree / Taking to vet for checkup and did stool exam / CBD oil , but there is nothing helping him to get better.

His stool stick to his tail and he spread out on the wall and floor making cleaning is a daily thing.

I am open to any advices!

I’m not really sure what to do anymore I live in a studio apartment so there’s not really any seperate room I can put them in. Mama cat and the kitten get zoomies all night long and the love to from the front door across our bed to the window and for some reason they keep using my chest and face as a springboard they don’t seem to do it to my boyfriend so we tried switching sides of them bed but then the cats would just switch which side they ran across. Idk what to do anymore I’m losing so much sleep especially because the loud noise wakes me up especially when they knock things over. Why do they only use me as the springboard

So her name is Shnitzel, she started to come around the house in the walkway and me and my girlfriend would always say “hello Shnitzel” and let her rub on our legs and such, bring tuna sometimes, water.

Last 3 days she’s been crying to get inside the backyard where the entrance to our room/unit is in my grandmas house.

I let her in and bought good quality cat food, water, and treats. I go out to pet her and give her attention a lot and also does my gf.

The thing is, at all times especially at night she wants to come in the room, at afternoons I think bc it’s summer and hot here she’s kinda lying down near the door where you can feel a breeze of the AC so I guess she’s hot and really likes the AC. Bc if I leave the door open she immediately rushes to go inside and kinda stops and look at me and I say no and like do a 👋 with my hand in the air, and she either goes in head only and then goes

Or goes inside to under the bed and then goes outside after I call her.

Seems like she’s kinda testing me or asking permission.
My guess is that she’s either not a stray at all (not likely since she’s like 90% of the time here)

Or she was a house cat that was abandoned or forgotten or idk what.

Now for the problem: I can’t let her in.
As much as it hurts me, I can’t let her in the house. I let her in the small backyard since I saw another cat trying to attack her and I ran after it with a broom to scare it away! (Don’t you dare touch my baby!) (I wouldn’t hurt the cat don’t worry)

But inside the room is just impossible for a lot of reason.

1. I am a dialysis patient who’s waiting for transplant. It’s too much of a health risk. After I put her I wash my hands to be safe but my immune system is weak af rn and after the surgery it’ll be an actual threat to my life
   If not handled correctly.

2. Our room is small. We have a shower, bed, work/ gaming table, sink, bathroom. All in the room. There’s like a few steps worth of free walking space.

3. For the health reasons I don’t want her to come to sleep in my bed and neither does my gf. As much as I’d love to cuddle with her into the night, I can’t.

And also where I’ll put her sandbox ? On my desk ? lol there’s just no space.

In the rest of the house with my grandma is also a big no no.

She doesn’t hate the cat all. She likes cats and think they’re cute but she wouldn’t let a cat live in her living room or kitchen.

My plan for now is to think on it for the next 6 days until I get my disability pay and have the money to get her to a vet for a general checkup and stuff.

And I do do that, I’d maybe think to kinda build or
Put a cardboard box with blankets under the tree I have in the yard and kinda teach her that this is her spaces, that could be nice I guess.

The only
Problem with that is to teach her that our room is a no no zone.

Now I notice, that in the time of my writing this she stopped meowing outside the door, perhaps went to sleep on my smoking chair 🪑 (finally)

If everytime and every night I go inside the room and leave her outside she’d meow it’ll break my heart.. it genuinely sounds like she’s saying “papaaaa” 😭

She’s adorable and I’m falling for her.

I have a coworker who lives in the same apartment unit as me. I walk her severely obese dog because she’s usually “too busy” to do so.

I recently learned that she has a second cat. I’ve never seen that cat until about a month ago. I have gone to her apartment weekly, now almost daily, for a year to walk her poor dog, and I never noticed that she had a second cat because that poor baby literally just lives underneath her bed, and I rarely go into her room unless I have to.

When I first saw the cat, my jaw dropped, because that poor baby is about three cats in one. I have never seen such an obese cat. He can barely walk. I asked her about the cat and she said that he’s always been there, but that he just likes hiding under her bed, followed by a laugh. The cat basically is almost always under her owner’s bed, but occasionally comes out a few feet to sleep on a dirty, beaten cat bed. When I do see her on the cat bed, I make sure to sit next to her and provide her with some TLC, and I clean the bed and the surrounding area for her (the floors are covered in dog/cat hair, and there’s usually old pee and poo stains on her floor). The poor baby’s hair is greasy and looks like it never gets brushed.

She has a second cat who is normal-sized and wanders around the apartment at least.

I tried playing with them both, but I could not toys for them at her apartment. I texted her asking if she has toys, and she left me two cat toys in her living room the following day: a super old cat nip toy and one of those stick feather wands, but with the feather missing (so, just a wand). Just fcking sad. There is also no scratch post for them, and the healthier cat scratches the back of a couch instead. I have recommended that she purchase them a scratch post, but she ignored my text.

I’m only staying in contact with her in order to take care of her pets. She shows no interest in helping those babies.

The obese cat has no life. Can’t jump because of her weight; and only moves a few feet between the bed and the dirty cat bed, surrounded by filth.

The situation is tricky because she’s my coworker. I doubt SPCA will do anything because all animals have access to food and water.

Is there anything I can do to help this kitty? I am so tempted to smuggle him out and give him to a trusted cat friend who will turn his life around.

My heart is breaking. That cat has no life. No mental stimulation at all. I’ve never seen such an obese, unhappy cat. She ont do anything to help him. I have tried talking to her. I would take the cat (my coworker has never been to my apartment), but I have a dog who will attack him.

Please provide advice. I am so distraught over the condition of these animals. Also, my apologies for the disorganized ranting. I’m just so upset.

This is not a post complaining. I am delighted. But this cat is so attached to me and I am not sure why. He sleeps on my legs and feet, always cuddles me, rubs against my legs and seeks pets and attention 24/7. Honestly, I have literally never experienced such a thing. My own cat at home isn't this affectionate and would kill me if I petted him the same way this cat lets me even though he also loves me to death. I did let this cat approach me and when he did, I held my hand out which instantly got me a head rub and ever since then he has been at my side. I know I approached him the right way but this amount of affection is so precious and unfamiliar to me. I am going to sleep downstairs with him so he can have his cuddles

My 13-year-old indoor cat has been missing for about five weeks now. He is a fixed male cat and seemed very healthy before he accidentally got outside. I’ve been doing everything I can to find him (posters, searching, talking to neighbours, checking cameras, social media) but the uncertainty has been so difficult and there have been no sightings of him. 😞

I’ve had him since I was 10, and it’s so hard because he has been my best friend and with me through so many milestones that it’s hard to imagine life without him.
I’m hoping to hear from people who have been through something similar. If you had a senior indoor cat go missing, how long were they gone for? Did they ever return? Did you ever stop searching, and if so after how long?

Hearing other people’s experiences would mean a lot. ❤️‍🩹
