It has the extended external battery and the i7 cpu with 250 gigs it’s in amazing condition do you think I should daily drive this or a 7 year old asus vivobook that’s stock,(slightly better specs)

Hi I'm a t14 gen 3 user. I use my thinkpad to stream from my pc on it. Since I game on it and I don't a big monitor, is it possible to go from 60hz to 144hz or more with a panel upgrade?

To give some backstory, I have a p53 in which i dont know the Supervisor/BIOS password of, so i dont have access to disabling Secure boot which from what i know i need disabled if i want to install Linux (to be specific im using arch because someone reccomended it) but i have no way of disabling it, ive tried many methods but it seems that without a workaround the secure boot lock i cant install it, so i was wondering is installing linux still possible? and if so, how? thanks

I've had many Thinkpads in my past. Most of which I got for free from the garbage because they were too old to run windows 11.

Earlier this year, my HP Omen 15's hinges broke, which bent my motherboard and rendered my $650 gaming laptop entirely useless. I took good care of it too! The only time I ever dropped it was when one of my stupid classmates was horsing around after I told them not to and knocked it off the desk.

I was forced to use my pair of Thinkpad Yoga 260s to finish out my school year. One ran linux mint, and the other ran Tiny11. I got four of them for free (seeing as they were all broken and don't support windows 11) and I got 2 in perfect condition. I didn't really care for them. I dropped them off desks, slammed them shut, and basically did whole torture sessions. I was joking with my friends, and I thunderpunched one in the screen so hard it flew off the desk and hit the floor. I cracked the plastic bezel at the bottom and that was the extent of the damage. I will not tolerate cheap garbage anymore. These Thinkpads are awesome.

In order to keep myself sane at school, I need my gaming. So I needed a new laptop if I wanted to play anything good. I figured I needed to splurge a little since I know for a fact I'm going into an engineering major in college.

I went on eBay and bought a Thinkpad P1 Gen 4 with an I7-11850h, an RTX 3070, and 32 gigs of ram for $800. I don't care that it's not a gaming laptop. I don't care I paid more than a 3070 laptop usually costs. I only trust the Lenovo Thinkpad now. Glory be to the greatest laptops ever made!

(I will be babying this laptop like I did with that HP Omen... not torturing it like the free Thinkpads I got earlier.)

The one i have acquired recently is a i7 3rd gen unit with 8gb of ram.

I cannot find any half height mpcie wwan card. Im not sure if a full size mpcie card will fit?

Also wlan card to a wifi 6 or 7 card.

I am aware that there is a whitelist on the bios.

I will be able to disable it. I have a hardware bios flasher.

Also did anyone tried to change the ram from 8gb to 16gb? I am very familiar with reballing ram chips.

(I have a hot air and a preheater.)

Do i need to move straps or is there a publicly available modded bios for this.

I just want to know if anyone has attempted to do this before. I tried seraching for a reference but no success so far.

Hi everyone, i just got myself a t420. The CPU is 2nd gen dual core i5, so it feels a little sluggish.

I'm planning to upgrade to i7 3820qm(i'm okay with flashing coreboot), but idk how much would it improve, or would the stock heatsink can handle it. I really don't want to sink too much money in an outdated platform.

Just found out x60/x61 are typically stuck on 50hz, has anybody found a way around this outside of using the sxga screen? I'm wondering if you used one of those aliexpress led panels and like flashed the bios with the x60t bios?

It's quite confusing and there seems to be no definite anwsers

I got my first ever own laptop, T490, Intel I5, 16 gigs of ram and 256gb nvme, the seller is also nice enough to include new battery, all for the price of 650 ringgit (160$ something)

Heres my question:

1. was the price worth it or did i got scammed?

2. is there any way that i can upgrade the cpu? (im a phone repair technician so im quite comfortable with opening laptops)

3. what can i do to improve thermals?

4. for software engineering students, should i prepare for upgrade later on or can i stick to this laptop through the whole course?

I'm planning to buy a new laptop and keep it for at least 6 years.

My budget allows either:

• ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 (16GB RAM)
• MacBook Air M4 (16GB RAM)

Unfortunately, the 32GB ThinkPad is out of my budget, so I'd have to go with the 16GB version.

Primary use:

• Programming
• Light Data Science
• Docker
• VS Code
• Multiple browser tabs

My biggest concern is longevity.

I want a laptop that will:

• Last around 6 years or more
• Stay reasonably fast over time
• Be repairable or upgradeable if possible

For those who have used either:

1. Is 16GB enough for the next 6 years?
2. Is the upgradeability of the T14 a big enough advantage over the MacBook Air?
3. If you were buying today with the goal of keeping it for 6+ years, which would you choose and why?

I'd really appreciate opinions from people who have owned these machines long-term rather than just benchmark comparisons.

All of the thinkpads I ended up with I accidentally won on Ebay, like I didn't expect a low-bid to win. I also ended up selling nearly all of mine, thankfully for nearly the price I bought them for.

For me, the two laptops I kept, one is for keeping at home and the other is to bring on the go.

Got this beast for 400 cad. Not sure it is a good deal.

I've had my X60 Tablet for about a week now, and I've really been enjoying using it!

I love the classic form factor and industrial style of these older machines, even if they aren't quite as modular or moddable out of the box as some of the T-series laptops.

To squeeze as much daily-driver usability out of it as possible on a budget, I went ahead and tracked down a complete, intact X61 Tablet motherboard and swapped it into the X60t chassis, pairing it with a 250GB SSD. Flashing Middleton’s BIOS went smoothly, though getting everything set up definitely took a bit more patience than expected.

The biggest hurdle so far has been RAM: finding reasonably priced DDR2 SODIMMs is no joke these days. I managed to score a 2x4GB kit (yes, the unofficial 8GB DDR2 support is a lifesaver!) which should be arriving tomorrow. Getting back to a native 64-bit architecture has been great, running 64-bit AntiX with i3wm for when I'm working on code. I haven’t noticed a massive performance leap just yet, but I'm chalking that up to running on limited RAM for the moment and still needing to fine-tune things.

I haven't tackled any of the Wacom touchscreen or digitizer features yet either; since I've been laser-focused on squeezing out raw performance first, it just hasn't felt necessary to attack yet.

Does anyone else still daily drive one of these vintage machines? What are you guys doing to keep your older ThinkPads relevant and usable for modern workflows?

ThinkPad L470 (i3-7100U, 12GB of 2133MHz DDR4 RAM, 512GB SSD, Windows 11, Intel HD Graphics 620). The game is Scrap Mechanic. It runs smooth with almost 100 FPS on lighter worlds, tho. She's chugging in this world because it has a lot of heavy in graphics processing elements.

Still, that's still a good performance when it comes to a dual-core CPU
