Oh queso, (cheesy, I know) My house has been a mess for well over a year and I have been drinking way longer than that. I cleaned my kitchen counter the other day (finally) took about 30 minutes with all the crap covering it but it is clean. I then thought well maybe I could scrub the sink, yeah well that took about 10 minutes. On I went and now the whole kitchen is clean. Mind you it took a week to do but it is still clean. I take the first 30 minutes as a win, now I have the whole kitchen after a week....... Do you, it's what you do best. All this to say I just made 6 months sober and now after those 6 my kitchen is clean. Who knows maybe by 2030 my whole house will be clean. Give yourself some grace. You are doing fabulous BTW. IWNDWYT!!!!

The escape is only temporarily, and I'm going to assume that you've gone that path before. You know it's temporary, and it often never really relieves anything. It only added more stress and problems afterwards. Envision how you want to be after the beach. What's the best course of action to get there? You can enjoy the beach AND be in a good state of mind afterwards.

Eat, have a scroll, even go buy yourself some kind of treat! Just a short distraction for such a big payoff! Also remember drink is only going to make you actually feel good for what? 20mims then you’ll just be trying to chase that x

Maryland, USA. Idk I've never really noticed since I quit drinking. Drinking was my own culture. It was my entire life. I don't notice and not influenced by anyone else around me any more.
I went out of my way to seek alcohol. It wasn't really given to me from my family or anything. My dad was sober and I knew it was bad for him. Surely it would be different for me!

A guy at my meeting always talks about his father who died slowly from alcoholic dementia over 12 years. It sounds the most horrifying situation for a family to deal with

Liver gives you another 10 years. You don’t get a second transplant. Shit is poison. Ask me how I know

Everything is right with you! You have made massive changes in your life. Don’t try to deal with everything at once, it will get better, just lean into it and don’t put pressure on yourself to try to fix things in one go. Well done mate, 8 days is a great achievement!

I had been feeling that way ever since the weather got nice. That along with an incredible amount of stress. I gave in on Sunday and had 2 drinks. Physically felt like shit Monday and even yesterday. I used to feel that way after 6 or more drinks and it only took 2. Wasn’t worth it at all. I also don’t want to build up my tolerance again. Don’t do it, it’s not worth it.

Well, I talked to my therapist and my GP and my husband about it. That’s it.

New England now- used to live in New Zealand. The drinking culture in NZ was insane.

Maine. My town is known as the City of Ships, and has an unofficial motto: a drinking town with a shipbuilding problem.

"Also-you need to be 6 months sober to even be eligible for a transplant."
As someone who has had a liver transplant. This isn't true. It depends on the transplant center and their evaluation of you. Some require 6 months, some do not. Mine did not but it wasn't like they just approved me either.

Lol yeah I’ve never heard of anyone from the Bay Area refer to it as “South Bay”, but I do know in L.A. it refers to San Pedro/Harbor City/Wilmington. No knock on Workout Mom. :)

That's really interesting to know, thanks for sharing. I've always been quite active while drinking, play music, write, etc. so I guess it will take some time before my brain gets back on track, cause right now I'm such a lazy boring person....

Thank you 🩷 We just have to live with this threat now. Ugh.
