A couple days ago I showed off a simple in game world editor. It was clunky, but worked. In the past couple days I have been refining it to make it more user friendly. I also wanted it to be it's own stand alone thing so here it is with it's own launcher.

Notable things I'm attempting to show off here:

A standalone launcher. It auto detects your world map, and exports it to the worldbuilder folder for editing, it does not build on your world's map directly. It comes pre set up with the tools enabled, and a builder character it launches directly into.

Build mode turns off all special rendering and turns on a grid so it's easier to see where you're clicking

The large ui is reduced to a dock with flyouts, it can be navigated by clicking or shortcut keys.

Inspect mode let's you find any information about any object, terrain tile, or npc. It also let's copy anything so if you aren't sure what variables are associated with a particular piece of terrain you can easily get them.

You can save your changes directly from the editor

Saved changes are not saved directly to your world, they are kept within the editor's folder, and will be there next time you launch it, you can continue work over time until you are satisfied, at which point a simple script is run (has a launch file) which imports the map files into your server and client properly.

Also included is a script for undoing changes to your world map. Can never be too safe.

After downloaded just extract the folder into your servers root folder (core-framework seems to be the common place) and you're good to go

There is a readme which contains worthwhile information included.

More is planned. Easiest first things are item spawns, that's a must. But later on I'd like this to be able to handle unique object and npc interaction. Things like connecting two points via an object or npc (think like fast travel via boat). Easily writing dialogue trees for npcs. An npc editor so you could build a look on the fly.

Get it here rsc world editor

I hope you all have fun!

Built an in game world editor.

It's built into my openrsc spoiled milk, here https://github.com/An-actual-duck/open-rsc-spoiled-milk
However, my version of rsc has all sorts of other things that comes with it so if you just want the world editor the specific commit for it is here: accff5e15a1e7171a914d8eaaa64766f955084c4

I'll be updating it so it gives more information for people that aren't familiar with the values the game uses. But basically you just plug in numbers that correspond to different outputs. For example, here you can see here I put in 11 for the lava texture, and then change the elevation to 200. Right now scenery objects and npcs give the names of what they are next to their values, but the floor textures don't.

My immediate goals are continuing with properly labeling everything, so casual creators know what all the numbers are, and then adding support for easily adding your own new textures.

Currently things are capped at 255 options, a limitation of how things were programmed back when the game was made, but this can be fixed. I'm particularly curious to see about raising the cap for elevation and what that could potentially allow for.

Once you're done your edits there is a save button in the UI which automatically creates the map file

People seemed to like my recent post showing off the the OpenGL support and expanded visuals so I just wanted to make a follow up that links to the github with more images, details about the project, and a download for anyone that wants to check it out. Codex was used. And it is open source

Check it out here. I'm eager to get feedback, I've yet to really garner any audience besides a few drop ins and one very dedicated person.

Some notes, it is listed as alpha because I haven't really gotten a decent amount of balance testing more than any other reason. I've had a very dedicated tester who has helped me root out lots of bugs so it plays stable but it's tough to really know how well things are balanced with just a single person. I appreciate any and all feedback. I'm also constantly updating things, adding content, and expanding. Content that's getting the biggest changes right now are guilds, beefing them up to feel more worthy of their status.

This is not your traditional rsc experience, do not go into it expecting the same game you're used to. Everything, even core mechanics, will feel a little different. If you feel a little lost, I've done my best to keep the in game guides relevant, but please also feel free to ask me directly or use global chat. I tend to be around in some capacity. I also intentionally do want to recapture the feeling of discovery from the original rsc experience, so a dash of that exists as well.

Really hope to see a few new faces. Thanks for the kind words on my other post!

Converted rsc's renderer to OpenGL and increased draw distance from 96x96 tiles to 144x144 (rsc's 2x2 grid to a 3x3 grid). Codex was used. Is Open Source.

Memories Reuniting with Lost friends

Posted with mod permission.

For anyone who played RuneScape Classic years ago and lost contact with old friends, clanmates, or people from your old world, I help run a site called LostLobby.

You can search by character name, username/gamertag, game, era, region, and old details you remember to help reconnect with people you used to play with or help them find you.

It’s mainly free to use and meant for nostalgia/reconnecting, not spam... The only paid stuff is optional extra/local features to help cover hosting. The main purpose is still reconnecting old gaming friends.

I hope you all like it, and I hope it helps someone find an old friend they used to play with!

Thank you for letting me post this here!!

Looking for artists that are interested in making Runescape Classic style monster sprite sheets. Will pay.

I've been browsing common places to commission artists but man the quality of art is really so far beyond what's needed for this. It almost feels like I'd be insulting them asking them to lower the quality of their work so much. I figured I'd check places where people who are passionate about the game may be more interested in doing work matching the aesthetic of this game.

Looking at the sprite sheets it seems most npcs have 18 frames. 5 directions with 3 frames each and 3 frames of attacking animations. In some cases I'd be interested in going up to 21 frames for an additional attack animation.

I've been building new locations in my private server and I want more than just the current cast of enemies, or palette swaps, to populate it. I want some fun and interesting new designs, so these new places feel fresh and interesting to explore for the veterans of rsc who just can't get enough.

And in case this sounds like an advertisement it is indeed open source, so there is that as well. I promise I play by the rules!

*Update* I got bombarded by messages that I'm pretty sure were from bots. I don't know what to be on the look out for, never looked to commission an artist before. But basically empty profiles concern me. Sorry if I didn't respond to you and you were a real person. Got overwhelmed.

Trying to find a place where I can advertise my custom private server

I don't want to break the rules here, but if anyone is aware of a place that is active and would be okay with me posting my server I'd appreciate it. My google search has found osrs sites but nothing that seems for classic.

Telegrabbing Display Tea from Ye Olde Tea Shoppe in Varrock

Does anyone remember being able to telegrab the display tea from the tea seller in Varrock? I can't remember how I did it back then, I think either you cast confuse on him first or do it while someone is talking to him. But it seems it's not possible to telegrab it at all anymore - But I do still have the original "Display Tea" in my inventory lol, although it's just named as a normal tea now with only one ability, different to the multiple abilities normal tea has (only consumes 3% adrenaline in combat) but you still cant actually drink or trade it lmao.

Memories Xx jut xx - a player+website that leaks nostalgia from my every-pore

https://web.archive.org/web/20070921022404/http://games.infoseka.lt/english.html

I used to frequent his website (now, it seems, is only archived - which is a blessing!)

Oh the golden era days of RSC. I was but a wee-lad when I went through his site and, like many others with their own idols, mimicked my own RSN and even play style (well, as much as possible, as I started my ‘scape adventures in roughly 2005 - so my journey began with RS2). I think i first logged in roughly a week after farming came out. I still recall 2h weapons’ default hold “animation” being held the same way as a short/long sword - basically, it wasn’t updated yet such that it was held over one’s shoulder.

Anyone else recall this Classic beast of a player? Zaros-bless this man and his updates throughout his RSC journey.

RSC options and alternatives

Gonna post a little breakdown of my experience searching for modern day RSC/RSClike games.

RSC.VET: The go-to for classic RSC. They have multiple servers that allow you to play authentic or botting style. Uranium, the botting based server, is extremely active. Preservation, the vanilla server, has a small group of active players. There are generally 5-50 players on Preservation at any given time. Recommended.

OTHER PRIVATE SERVERS: Some examples here are RSC Revolution and RSC Emulation. These servers have declined in population recently. Most of them have some form of microtransactions or a donation system that provide perks. Not pure P2W, but it definitely gives an advantage. Not recommended, especially at this point.

RPGMO: Separate game with the same core gameplay as RSC. Enjoyable overall. The graphics are quite niche there are no player animations. On the surface, it appears very simple. However, there is much beyond that surface. There is quite a diversity of skills. No level cap, so you can grind endlessly. It is more afkable than RSC. The game is actively updated. Healthy player base with 300+ online regularly. I recommend this if you are okay with a heavily moderated family friendly social game.

HIGH SPELL: Also a separate game. Graphics are those sprite based ones that will take you right back to RSC. It is heavily influenced by RuneScape Classic. Tons of parallels between the two. This is the closest there is to a current RSC with updates. Slightly afkable as well. Usually 150-300 players online at any given time. Highly recommended.

OTHER OPTIONS: Bitcraft Online, Brighter Shores, Kaetram, Mabinogi, Albion Online, OSRS.

Feel free to chime in with anything you think I may have missed.

Question Few questions about RSC

1) Is there any reason why all these private servers don't just collaborate and merge? There are multiple different versions. Splitting the already thin player-base just seems counter-intuitive.

2) Is there any people trying to create a modernized version of RSC (including the graphics)? For me, the charm isn't so much the graphics. But the high-fantasy, high color-contrast, the combat-system, and how the skills intertwine is what I miss. I didn't enjoy the removal of the 3-round rule and the combat OSRS has become abusing ticks with gear, food, etc. to one hit people around prayers. I felt like the combat-triangle became non-existent.

But I guess ultimately, no one really wants an RSC type-game. It was more of like an interactive role-playing game rather then an MMO.
