Pasta Stovetop broke due to attempt to open spaghetti

My partner opens spaghetti by holding the package and slamming it (end side down) on the countertop. Sometimes on the stovetop. Usually the package opens and the spaghetti slide right out. This time the spaghetti won. We need a new stove.

JR Smith keeps it real: "We got the money. We don't have the mindset... We'd rather go throw $60,000 in the club! Go throw $60,000 than go feed 2,500 people in the hood... I've thrown money in the club, literally mindlessly, aimlessly drunk at a bar. And now I sit back like, 'I'm a stupid-ass...'"

I got Paul George sitting right here, I got DeMar DeRozan sitting right here, I got Russell Westbrook sitting right here... I'm literally sitting next to all of these dudes who are L.A. guys. I'm like, 'Bro, I'm not counting your chips, but everybody else is.'

You make 200, you make 200, you make 175, you make 150, you make 180. Why don't y'all have your own gym? Why we got to go... why we got to go to UCLA to work out in L.A. every time? You got your own... y'all all come from the exact same community! You want to inspire kids that look like you? All it take is five of us.

Five! 250, 250, 250, 250, 250. What bank going to turn this down? 'We about to build this whole shit out for our community. We going to build gyms, rec centers, start leagues, and all of that.' Who going to... who's going to stop us?

We got the money. We don't have the mindset. Our mindset... we'd rather go throw $60,000 in the... in the club! In the strip club! Go throw $60,000 than go feed 2,500 people in the hood.

Think about it. I've done it! I've been... I can't sit here and be like, 'Oh man, I'm a hypocrite.' I've done this myself! I've thrown money in the club, literally mindlessly, aimlessly drunk at a bar. And now I sit back like, 'I'm a stupid-ass...'

I could have fed my whole community 10 times over with the money I was just late on the bus!

'Cause I'm so wrapped into me. I got that Eurocentric mindset: 'I need this designer jacket, I need these jeans, I need this book bag, I need to be looking like this 'cause the vets got this, I'm pushing this car, I'm doing... Why? Who am I impressing? I'm not even fulfilled with me!"

My daughter asked for an axolotl themed cake this year. She wanted "water and baby axolotls too". She wanted it to have a mini birthday cake. So I did my best to make it happen.

I've never done a gelatin layer before but it worked out okay. If I were to do it again, I would use a less firm recipe.. I used one that was meant for a jelly island cake which was definitely not necessary. I'd also add a lot more flavor and citric acid next time. Oh well.. at least it was a learning experience 😅.

There were a few things I wasn't thrilled with, but overall it came out okay and my daughter absolutely loved it, which was the main goal anyway 💗

She picked the flavor (confetti with vanilla whipped cream cheese filling), the colors, the placement of the axolotls, and helped with some decor decisions along the way.

I made chocolate cupcakes as well in case anyone preferred chocolate.

The mini cake was a cake pop, she ate the one from her cake but I had an extra (made it first and didnt like it enough to put on the cake) so we decided to cut that one after her party. Tiniest slice of cake ever 😄🥰

The inspo for the design around the sides of the cake was a bakey.bakes cake (not sure if instagram links are allowed but its on her page).

TIL in 1976, undisputed champion Muhammad Ali fought wrestler Antonio Inoki. Rules barred Inoki from grappling, so he spent 15 rounds on his back landing 107 leg kicks. Ali landed just 2 punches, got severe blood clots, and doctors debated amputation. The match was a draw.

A Texas Rangers-led arrest put 52-year-old ICE agent Christian Castro at the center of one of the most closely watched use-of-force cases involving federal immigration officers this year.

On May 29, 2026, Texas Rangers arrested Castro in Cameron County, Texas, after Minnesota prosecutors charged him with four counts of second-degree assault and one count of falsely reporting a crime. The charges stem from a January 14 immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis.

According to the criminal complaint, Castro was pursuing a man during the operation when the pursuit ended outside a Minneapolis home. Prosecutors allege Castro fired his service weapon through the closed front door, striking Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, a Venezuelan national, in the leg. Authorities say the bullet continued into the home, where children were inside.

Prosecutors also allege Castro falsely claimed he fired only after being attacked with a shovel and a broom. They say surveillance video, witness statements, physical evidence, and Castro's own injuries contradict that account. As a result, he is also charged with falsely reporting a crime.

In an unusual development, Hennepin County prosecutors have said Castro was one of two ICE agents whom Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons acknowledged had lied about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Federal prosecutors had initially charged two Venezuelan men with assaulting a federal officer in connection with the incident. Those charges were later dismissed after additional evidence came to light.

I actually came across this case while researching another story and realized I had somehow missed it when it happened. Since Castro's arrest was nearly two months ago, I wanted to cover it because I don't remember seeing much discussion about it, and I think it's an important case.

As of today, the case remains pending. No plea, trial date, or other major court developments have been publicly announced.

I'll continue following the case and post any significant updates as they become available.

Lore [IRL trope] the “Tiffany problem”

Thumbnail

Basically when something seems anachronistic to a period/place of history but is actually fully accurate to the period.

1) the name Tiffany: the thing that named this trope, basically the name Tiffany can be dated back to the Middle Ages and the earliest record of it being spelled in the modern spelling comes from the 16th century.

2) the use of OMG, despite this feeling so modern as a form of slang/abbreviation here’s a letter directed to Winston Churchill using it in 1917

3) Hair Dye: the earliest forms of dying hair can be dated back to ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, and this specific advertisement for hair dye is from the 1840s

4) Inuit Thongs: despite how weird it is to imagine pre-colonial Inuit people wore what was essentially fur thongs in their homes and when they were in their igloos it might have been the only thing they would be wearing.
