I play poker since 1 month and I read here and there things about AI and Bots.
Is this really a big thing now in poker?
And what are you thoughts about this topic?

Should I be worried about this guy at my table?

It's about 2:30 am at the Wynn. I have a flight to catch in 2 hours, and this big hand happened.

It's also my last day of the Vegas trip, and I'm stuck around $4k. So, I'm really hoping to win this.

This was vs. a recreational player (UTG+1)? I saw him call light throughout the night (i.e., defending A5o vs 3b in BTN vs SB, calling OB OB with flush and losing to a boat etc)

Here's my analysis of the hand:

• Preflop
  • V opens to $30 and there was another call by a reg. QJs could flat, but I think it can mix. I also haven't been able to catch a hand, so this hand looked beautiful. I 3bet, V calls and the other reg calls
• Flop
  • Amazing flop with so much equity for me but my strategy is to range check OOP. I don't wanna play a big pot OOP 300bb deep.
  • My plan was to check-raise big and barrell any turn basically.
• Turn
  • I make the nuts. My hand obviously wants to bet, but my range probably doesn't want to (if I have AA, how thrilled am i to bet into 2 people)? I elect to check, going to x/r
  • Villain stabs really light, and I decided to x/r. I could've gone bigger but wanted to keep weaker hands in like 78, JT, FD, SD etc..
• River
  • River is paired, but I didn't think he would have that many FH combos. If he had TT, 88, 33 he would've bet pure on the flop. He also would probably bet bigger on the turn with sets to deny equity and given how wet the board is and how deep we are.
  • Even two pair like T8 would've bet the flop, so I really didn't think I was losing to anything except 89. And if he has 89 he can have all my money.
  • Because he was a station and I also wanted to recoup my losses I 1.5x jam on the river and get absolutely SNAPPED which sucked ass. I can still visibly recall this scene which is disgusting
  • You could argue that if you bet that big, you aren't gonna get called by worse which is true, but I think I would've called the raise anyway

Nasty cooler and it really stung but what can you do... Curious to hear you guys thoughts on the hand.

Imagine knowing where all whales, fish, regs, OMCs, etc. are at all times.

Imagine knowing if your favorite whale is at home on his couch, or gambling at the casino across town.

You might be thinking, “Why would a whale want to use this app?” Well, it works both ways.

The whale can see how many skilled players are at his favorite casino at any time. He can use the app to avoid a good player, just like a good player can use it to find him.

In order to use the app, everyone’s location services would need to be on at all times so that it is fair for everyone to use.

The host asks me if they can play my cards for me, I say no but you can look. They look and get wide eyed, and give me a head nod implying i should turn around and play these cards.

Actions on me, somehow the bet is 5 (turns out its a straddled pot) so i announce top of my range and bet 15.

A middle position player essentially clicks it back to 30 and it folds around to me again

I do my best 10 second Hollywood and resign myself to a reraise 30->75. I just wanna smoke a cigarette man. In my head this is a min click 5 bet.

MP almost snap jams, I snap fold face up AKs faster then the jam he needed 3 seconds to double check.

Is it in your opinion a leak to show the AKs preflop fold?

What’s the point of the blinds?? Why is there a small blind if the small blind is going to end up putting in the amount of the big blind anyways? Why not just have one blind or like entrance amount??

Very long post incoming. TLDR: Really getting back into poker and wondering what steps I should take.

I have been playing poker for the last 22 years. I started in undergrad and paid for all my expenses, and continued during graduate school which I was able to leave without any debt as a result of a teaching position and poker. During this time I had a few friends who played poker that I could discuss poker with, but have always liked to do things my own way so haven't really discussed much poker with people. I also have never read a poker book or purchased training software or coaching. Basically all my poker learning has come from playing and thinking about poker.

During this time, I was debating on whether I should pursue poker or continue into my field of choice. The summer I graduated grad school was the summer of Black Friday, and most of my funds were on Full Tilt. I took this as a sign that I should pursue my chosen career.

For the next 15 years, I would continue to play sporadically on illegal sites (Bovada/ACR) and my local casino. At this point I treated the game as fun, and while still a winning player, I didn't treat the game seriously. I was making enough money in my day job that I didn't have a poker bankroll like I had in the past. I was the definition of a decent winning amateur.

I am lucky enough to live in a state that has legalized online poker and jumped back in as soon as they re-opened in my state. During this time, I was also gaining more responsibilities at my job and got married, so I would play poker maybe once a week online max. In 2022 I won the MISCOOP main event after final tabling the big Sunday tournament the Sunday before for a very nice chunk.

Over the next couple of years, my wife was in grad school and wasn't working, and my job was becoming more and more stressful, so when I played poker, which was rarely I lost. During this time, I also paid for a wedding, and some home repairs with poker money. In 2024 my poker account was back to zero and I went back to playing sporadically for fun when I could which was rarely.

Last year, I hit my wall at work. My job was incredibly stressful and I was unable to keep up with it. By this point my wife was making enough to pay the monthly expenses, so she and I decided I should quit my job, which we had discussed many times before. I quit my job with a decent amount of savings in November of last year. After a couple of months of getting physically and mentally healthy I started to want something to do with my time. I decided to deposit $1,000 into my pokerstars account to play NL10/NL25. From late February until the new FanDuel/PS site opened in April I was able to run that $1,000 into $5,000 as a result of chopping one of the last Sunday special tournaments they had. At this point I started dabbling in PLO, which I have background both live and online.

Once the old PS shut down I withdrew my $5,000 with the intention of redepositing it on the new site when it reopened. Warning: brag incoming. I initially deposited $2,000, and have been on the sun run of a lifetime. Since the site reopening in April I have made just shy of $30,000 in profit. I have final tabled the large Sunday tournament, which is the only day I play tournaments, 3 times including one of the first huge ones during the opening series and have two more top 18 finishes including another one during the opening series. My best tourney score was a 4 way chop for $8,8000. I have also made $12,800 in PLO cash games during this time playing a mix of 50/100/200 6 max and some heads up. My current bankroll is $26,700 after some withdrawals.

My question is, where should I go from here? I would like to pursue playing poker full time now that my wife is making more than enough to cover all the expenses.

During college, 2+2 was the place to discuss poker but that doesn't seem to be the case now. Is this done more on Discord servers now? Any recommendations for good places to discuss PLO hands?

Should I look into joining a training site or find coaching? My concern here is that I think I am developing a highly exploitative style that is winning against the player pool I am playing against and am worried too much training will mess with that. If so, any recommendations on sites or coaches?

Someone had responded in another post I should hire someone to do a database analysis once I get more hands in. This feels like the option that works best for me.

I have 25,000 hands so far, my goal is to get to 50,000 by the end of summer. Should I wait until I get to 50,000 before I do anything?

I don't see how there is any way he's​ offsetting​ that with YT or other sponsorships. The rest of the video is him and his friend Abby going on a home decor spree. More power to him if it's all kayfabe but it doesn't look like he's setting himself up for success.

I've recently started playing poker and studying through the John hopkins course on youtube, which mainly covers cash games. I play microstakes on pokerstars to go along mainly to apply what I learn and I am winning consistently though not a lot obviously. i'm done with the course soon and wanted to start reading through books.

I am mainly interested in books that would cover tournament playing. I have played a few free tournaments that are organized in my city and people play them quite seriously. It's 4 tables of 8 and I have made final two tables every time but literally not any higher (placed 13th and 15th). The problem is that I suck at bluffing and always end up short stack (playing with M<10 for most of the tournament, and we don't post antes). I find strategy to be much different from playing online cash games because I'm put under pressure often, don't have many orbits left and get bullied by the big stacks (obviously).

I was wondering if you could point out books that would be beginner friendly, still relevant today and mostly aimed at playing tournaments NLHE. I am comfortable with maths and really enjoy it

So now we have Ah Qh on the Hand and the Board with 10d 5h 2s Jh
I only need one h or K card on the river to get a flush or a straight so i called.

River: 8d
H: Check
V: Bet 65.5BB
H: Fold

Hi poker degens, I invented a new form of poker called "California Stud"

It uses a 52 deck + two Jokers that are wild cards.

"Natural" hands (no Jokers required) beat "wild" hands (use a Joker).

However, a Q-high "wild" straight will still beat a J-high "natural" straight.

I am trying to withdraw 2600 from WPT.

I got informed they needed to get my info etc to allow this withdrawl.

Upon reading into this its not even gambling/offset with buy ins as a normal poker site would operate.

Am i correct that i would have to pay 28% on this 2600?

UTG Backstory: Aggro player. Online poker showed his stats of 64% VPIP & 25% PFR.

Pre-flop ($3):
Villain raises to $8, EP (Hero) 3! to $32, folds to Villain who 4bets to $100. EP flat-calls.

Kind of questioning the pre-flop call here. Was 4! flat here fine or should I have folded? AQs is a premium hand that I don't think is a good lay-down here. Maybe check/fold the flop if it doesn't go my way.

Flop ($203): 2♥️ 4♥️ 6♠️
Villain immediately jams. EP calls. Villain shows 77. Calculated my odds here to be practically a flip after he shows 77 (3 Aces + 3 Queens + Hearts). Definitely had him on a higher hand though.

Turn ($683): 5♣️

River ($683): 9♠️

I think the pre-flop was a bad call and I was too focused on the fact that he only had 77.

Additionally, when I reviewed this in hand analysis and other solvers they aren't saying anything of my play was necessarily "wrong" (Which I disagree on because I'm mentioning the V had 77). so my follow up question here is how should you play nut-flush draws in cash here? Should I have folded pre/post flop? If he doesn't jam on the flop, what bets are you making to semi-bluff and how many streets are you betting/calling before you fold?

I'm just starting out, wondering if there is an app that can help me find legit, lower-stake games in nyc? thanks
