How long do you all commute to work?

I currently have a high paying job in Concord, Massachusetts, which I’m very thankful for however I’ve been dreaming about living in Northampton. Unfortunately it looks like the commute would be an hour and 30 minutes.

I’m trying to see if it’s worth living out there despite having a bad commute.

The Montague Soapbox Races are on for this year! This event is incredibly fun to watch (and my husband races in it)! Unfortunately last year it was cancelled for various reasons (including not enough people signing up). We're trying to get the word out to more people. There used to be a few soapbox races but now they seem to be hard to find. I'm hoping some of you might be handy and interested in participating!

The race happens at Unity Park in Montague/Turners Falls. Children as young as 8 can participate too (they start lower down the hill than the adults).

Does anyone know the gentleman who sits at the highway exit over by the shell station going towards holyoke, i've seen him almost every day when i go to work for a long time now, i'd like to make him a bag of things he might need. Don't Massachusetts pedestrians learn the rules for walking on a roadway?

You should never trust that a driver coming up behind you sees you! Therefore, pedestrians on streets & roadways should walk on the left, not the right.

That way you can see the driver's eyes, move to the side if necessary, and because you're traveling in opposite directions, the driver need not speed up to pass you, the pedestrian(s).

BTW, this rule does not apply to bicyclists. If they need to use the roadway, they are to stay to the right.

(Good grief, driving around town in summer here is terrifying! I never know that a pedestrian, many wearing earphones, even knows I'm behind them.)

Onn Wednesday, July 22, MassHire Franklin Hampshire will be at Forbes Library in Northampton from 10:30am to 12:20pm for an Employer Spotlight with Clinical & Support Options. CSO has open positions across Western Massachusetts in locations such as Northampton, Greenfield, Springfield, and more!

Clinical and Support Options Inc. began as the Franklin County Mental Health Association, incorporated in 1955 by 22 concerned citizens interested in providing for the mental health needs of families in Franklin County. Today, they employ nearly 700 multi-disciplinary staff, helping thousands of families throughout Western Massachusetts and the North Quabbin region.

This event is free to attend and pre registration is not required.

Hi! I'm an incoming Smith student moving to Northampton this fall. I'm wondering if anyone around here plays Blood on the Clocktower? It's a social deduction game similar to Mafia/Werewolf, but with hidden roles, bluffing, and a moderator (Storyteller).

If there's already a group, I'd love to join as either a player or a Storyteller. If not, but people are interested, I'd be more than happy to introduce the game and get some sessions going!

It works with as few as 5 players (plus a Storyteller), though games with 8+ players tend to be especially fun.

Hi all,

Tonight at roughly 7 p.m. at the Florence Summer Music Series by the Civic Center, my 11 year old daughter was running with her friends and a dog lunged at her unprovoked and bit her in the upper thigh, breaking the skin. My husband and I were at the opposite side of the lawn at the time of the bite so we unfortunately didn’t see it happen. According to my daughter, the owner was an older woman with short gray hair, and the dog was midsize with fawn colored fur, mostly likely an excitable puppy. The woman and her dog fled the concert before we had a chance to find her and get veterinary and vaccine information, so we are now at the ER and waiting to see if my daughter needs rabies vaccinations 😔.

If anyone was there and has information on who this woman is, we just want peace of mind that their dog is up to date on their vaccines and alert her that the dog broke skin on the bite.
