Dogs at reservoirs

Please stop you’ll ruin it for all of us. Dogs are not allowed near where we get our drinking water. Go to any number of trails nearby. No exceptions. Saw three dogs at Ashley today, one in the water with the family taking pictures. They might be right to close public access which stinks because it’s beautiful there.

Help a NYS plane nerd out

Hey holyfolks, (did I just come up with that? Surely someone has said this before)

What do you think is the coolest spot to see big planes buzzing around at low altitude?

Also interested in hearing you out if you can’t stand the noise of the military training above you 🤓

I live in Albany NY and pass through on my way to Boston a few times a year. The C5 Galaxy is my absolute favorite military bird. If you don’t know, they aren’t exactly easy to find across the country. Westover is one of only a handful of bases that house them (lucky bastards). I did get insanely lucky a few years ago with perfect timing passing by on 95 but would like help dialing in a plan if I’m going to make a trip out just for plane spotting.

Getting nerdier as I go: I am also trying to figure out if there’s any sort of predictability that the C5s are flying procedures at the base so that I can time my drive out there. From what I’ve noticed watching ADSB for years, a C5 performs touch and goes in the afternoon/evening circling the area, sometimes for a long time. It seems to only be Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Other times they go over to portsmouth, which is no help to me. Anyone have any intel that would help the predictability?

“New” Zen sitting group in Holyoke

Post image
13 Upvotes

The Forest Park Zen Sangha has found their new home in Holyoke, MA. We are a small, radically-open and engaged sangha, welcoming any and all, just as you are and for the benefit of all beings. We believe that Zen practice is for the relief of suffering here and now for all beings. This means that we not only engage ourselves in practice, but take our engagement off the cushion into the world, into the community.

Our new home will house our weekly sittings and dharma talks, family dharma practice, half/full day retreats, and any wedding, shower, or funeral services as needed.

Currently we gather for a Family Service (Sundays 10:30a) and a regular Sitting and Talk (Sundays 11a). We also host a “Spiritual Care for Activists” meeting once a month specifically for those involved in activism or simply feeling the weight of current events. That is on the second Sunday of each month at 1p.

Bows to All!

🙏🙏🙏

P.S. “New” because the sangha had met for several years in Springfield, but went on hiatus after Covid. We are happy to now reconvene in Holyoke!

I had a last minute change of plans and can’t go to tonight’s Yellowcard concert! Two tickets to the concert plus passes to the Cutwater lounge. I paid $160 for the tickets and lounge and fees, but willing to sell for $45 each!

Holyoke City Council has passed a data center ban!

The measure passed 9-4 at the June 16 Council Meeting just before 10PM with a room full of applause from the public who showed up to make their voice know. Holyoke is the second city in the state to ban new data centers behind Mansfield

Edit: Name and shame, the 4 no votes were councilors Vacon, Greaney, Murphy-Romboletti, and Sullivan. Remember these names when you go to the polls in November

Are pit bulls allergic to leashes?

Never seen one of those things on a harness.

It's strange I would think people wouldn't want to risk the pets they're supposed to love & care for running into traffic or lunging off to harass other people. Or attack other animals. Hmm.

I can only think there must be some medical reason behind it. Perhaps the owners have a leash sensitivity? I'm not sure what else could explain this anomaly.

Looks like Mimi Panitch (who introduced the order to ban new data center developments in Holyoke) sent out this survey.
