Announcement Another reminder on politics and political topics in /r/Nintendo

This announcement is almost a word for word copy of a previous announcement

Due to recent tariff news, this is a reminder that that discussions of politics are allowed on /r/Nintendo only when they are directly related to Nintendo. Please keep threads and comments within them related to Nintendo. We may remove any comments that stray away from this discussion.

Please note that this is not "censorship," we simply want to keep this subreddit on topic. Political topics draw in a lot of people who are not regular users of our subreddit and may not understand the rules and expectations. They also attract rabble-rousers who go from subreddit to subreddit to incite arguments.

We will remove any comments that stray too far off topic regardless of the opinions presented therein.

Also remember that above all, Rule 1 is always in effect, and we will remove any comments that contain personal attacks against other users and potentially issue bans if behavior is egregious.

Some examples of what is okay:

  • Discussing the potential or real effects of a country's policies relating to Nintendo.
  • Discussing gender and sexuality topics related to Nintendo characters.

What is not okay:

  • Discussing policies from politicians that do not have an impact on Nintendo or discussing those polices outside of their scope of Nintendo.
  • Hate speech of any kind about anyone's (real or fictional) race, religion, sexuality or gender expression.
  • Accusations or provocations of any kind thrown at users of this subreddit.
  • Randomly bringing up politicians, their policies, their slogans or symbols as an off-topic comment.

Because we get a lot of complaints in modmail about comments we do and don't allow, here's some examples of comments that are allowed and not allowed.

In order to not offend anyone sensitive, instead of using any names we'll use a stand-in. John Politics.

The following comments are okay to say:

  • The Switch 2 prices are going up because of John Politics's policies.
  • People who voted for John Politics should feel responsible for John Politics's actions.
  • If John Politics's opponent, Jane Politics had won, we wouldn't be in this situation.
  • John Politics made a statement that Countryland is a bad country.

The following comments are not okay to say:

  • John Politics is fat, stupid, ugly and lazy!
  • People who voted for John Politics are idiots!
  • People from Countryland are stinky!
  • You're so stupid, I bet you voted for John Politics!

Please feel free to use the comments section to ask for further clarification.

The comments section to this post will remain open for discussion, but please stay on topic. Off-topic comments will be removed and Rule 1 violations will result in a ban.

People reporting comments just because they hurt their feelings by pointing out that their favorite politician is responsible for bad things will be reported for report abuse.

Why are we seemingly applauding people who refuse to play old games?

Because when Nintendo remakes a game, the reason should be that its the only way to make the game truly good and interesting, not to "appeal" to people that verdict that any game before 2010 looks like shit and that the game plays uncomfortably.

Either re-imagine the game in a similar vein to the FF7 remake, OR do a heavily modified recompilation that's remastered, like in SM64 Render96, which, despite being fan-made, basically looks like a Modern Nintendo game, there's many ways to bring old games to life, but unless your a niche franchise or you think that it needs to happen to make the game interesting and enjoyable, there's no need to remake a game from scratch and keep EVERYTHING 1:1.

Switch Lite and Family plan questions

Hey everyone, we are considering getting my son a switch lite for his birthday. I have the switch 2, plus online/expansion. Would I be able to add his account to a family plan? Would digital games I had bought on switch 1/my nintendo account be useable for him on his switchlite if connected by a family plan? Anything else to know?

wave lines screen

I'm having a display problem on my Nintendo NES. I'm getting wavy lines on the screen. Could it be the capacitors or the connections? Do you know of any way to check and fix the problem? Any tutorials? Thanks. https://www.reddit.com/u/iPodforEvEr/s/nsI24nsPUc

Miyamato explains why Nintendo releases remakes: “Young people today don’t have the opportunity to play games from 10 years ago” and “Letting people know the original games also leads to future developments, so we’ve been actively pursuing that recently.”

How to increase input lag on HDMI TVs?

Hi.
I couldn't find other servers to ask this in.
Sometimes I go to Mario Kart time trial events, and the game's often displayed on a large outdoor projector. This comes with the issue of significant input lag, around half a second or more. Even if I practice the course beforehand, I feel uncomfortable with learning and executing complicated strategies on the day of the event, because the input lag throws me off quite a bit. The next event I'm going to will be a Peach Stadium time trial, and that course in particular has some crazy strategies that I'd like to learn and show off.
I have mostly LG TVs at home. If anyone's in the know about settings I can adjust to increase the input lag and hopefully simulate the projector experience, please do let me know.

Shigeru Miyamoto imagines a future where Miis are featured on personal IDs

Thumbnail

1.1k Upvotes

“… what’s interesting is that westerners really put a lot of effort into creating their Miis. In the past, it was said that Miis weren’t necessarily designed to suit the faces of westerners, so I’m happy about this. I think it would be really interesting if this wasn’t limited to Pikmin Bloom, but could be linked with Nintendo Accounts and we could collect hundreds of millions of Miis.

Miis use very little memory. Nintendo is a company that is very particular about how to achieve the maximum effect with as little memory as possible. Normally, an avatar can easily take up several megabytes, but Miis are made up of only a few hundred bytes. This compact design started with the specification of wanting to fit dozens of people into a Wii controller, and with this, even if we had hundreds of millions of them, they would probably all fit into that small amount of memory.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if, in the future, Mii characters were attached to personal IDs all over the world? I can’t help but wonder if that’ll ever happen. I’ve been talking about something that sounds like a trade secret, but this is the kind of thing that should be spread around (laughs). Thinking about things like that makes every day fun.”

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book interview reveals development beginning on switch, why tezuka wasn't involved, etc

The Sep. issue of Nintendo Dream includes an in-depth dev interview re: Yoshi and the Mysterious Book

• Tezuka was involved in the initial phase. Later he was tied up with SMB Wonder, so Nogami took over the Producer role.

• The game was originally planned for Switch 1, but changed to Switch 2 during development.

• “No dying” isn’t to make the game easy, but to encourage no-holds-barred exploration.

• The encyclopedia concept only came into shape toward the end of development.

• Different chapters may not exist in the same timeline.

• The naming system was complex to implement, but a team member insisted on it.
