Announcement Rule 3 reminder: Support and recommendation questions are not allowed on /r/Nintendo
As the holiday season approaches, many new users come to Reddit with questions about what to buy and how to use what they have bought for themselves and others.
Please remember that the following types of questions are not allowed on /r/Nintendo:
- Information seeking - Questions that are seeking a single "correct" answer.
- Tech support - Questions asking how to fix issues with Nintendo systems or accounts.
- Recommendations - Questions asking for suggestions on what game or console to buy.
- Game help - Questions asking how to do or find things in Nintendo games.
- Value judgements - Questions asking how much a Nintendo item you have or want to buy is worth.
These questions should be posted on our sister subreddit /r/NintendoHelp.
We have extensive filters in place to prevent these types of questions from being posted, but some still manage to slip through the cracks from time to time. If you see any questions like these posted, please use the report button.

Announcement Another reminder on politics and political topics in /r/Nintendo
This announcement is almost a word for word copy of a previous announcement
Due to recent tariff news, this is a reminder that that discussions of politics are allowed on /r/Nintendo only when they are directly related to Nintendo. Please keep threads and comments within them related to Nintendo. We may remove any comments that stray away from this discussion.
Please note that this is not "censorship," we simply want to keep this subreddit on topic. Political topics draw in a lot of people who are not regular users of our subreddit and may not understand the rules and expectations. They also attract rabble-rousers who go from subreddit to subreddit to incite arguments.
We will remove any comments that stray too far off topic regardless of the opinions presented therein.
Also remember that above all, Rule 1 is always in effect, and we will remove any comments that contain personal attacks against other users and potentially issue bans if behavior is egregious.
Some examples of what is okay:
- Discussing the potential or real effects of a country's policies relating to Nintendo.
- Discussing gender and sexuality topics related to Nintendo characters.
What is not okay:
- Discussing policies from politicians that do not have an impact on Nintendo or discussing those polices outside of their scope of Nintendo.
- Hate speech of any kind about anyone's (real or fictional) race, religion, sexuality or gender expression.
- Accusations or provocations of any kind thrown at users of this subreddit.
- Randomly bringing up politicians, their policies, their slogans or symbols as an off-topic comment.
Because we get a lot of complaints in modmail about comments we do and don't allow, here's some examples of comments that are allowed and not allowed.
In order to not offend anyone sensitive, instead of using any names we'll use a stand-in. John Politics.
The following comments are okay to say:
- The Switch 2 prices are going up because of John Politics's policies.
- People who voted for John Politics should feel responsible for John Politics's actions.
- If John Politics's opponent, Jane Politics had won, we wouldn't be in this situation.
- John Politics made a statement that Countryland is a bad country.
The following comments are not okay to say:
- John Politics is fat, stupid, ugly and lazy!
- People who voted for John Politics are idiots!
- People from Countryland are stinky!
- You're so stupid, I bet you voted for John Politics!
Please feel free to use the comments section to ask for further clarification.
The comments section to this post will remain open for discussion, but please stay on topic. Off-topic comments will be removed and Rule 1 violations will result in a ban.
People reporting comments just because they hurt their feelings by pointing out that their favorite politician is responsible for bad things will be reported for report abuse.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book interview reveals development beginning on switch, why tezuka wasn't involved, etc
The Sep. issue of Nintendo Dream includes an in-depth dev interview re: Yoshi and the Mysterious Book
• Tezuka was involved in the initial phase. Later he was tied up with SMB Wonder, so Nogami took over the Producer role.
• The game was originally planned for Switch 1, but changed to Switch 2 during development.
• “No dying” isn’t to make the game easy, but to encourage no-holds-barred exploration.
• The encyclopedia concept only came into shape toward the end of development.
• Different chapters may not exist in the same timeline.
• The naming system was complex to implement, but a team member insisted on it.

Can we appreciate how the Nintendo Switch came out with USB-C support instead of using some random proprietary port/cable?
I believe that Nintendo was really ahead of the curve to make that decision in 2013-2016 during the “NX” development days. Although the hybrid console’s specifications were considered by some “outdated” at its debut, I believe that having a USB-C port helped strengthen its hybrid selling point in some fashion due to one word: convenience. With this port being the golden standard in nearly all modern technology (largely thanks to the EU relatively recently), that very same cable that you use for your phone can be used on a 10+ year old device to charge and/or transfer files. I realized today how much I take that for granted.

Is star fox on switch 2 better than star fox 64?
Star fox on switch 2 has updated graphics, dialogue, story telling, and online battles. It gets a metacritic score of 82, whereas star fox 64 gets an 88. So which is truly the better version?

I feel bad for Andross in Star Fox
Specifically from the added lore in the 2026 game.
Imagine being a genius without peer but your accomplishments being hogged by the military (Cornerian Defense Force) you work for. You try to strike out on your own to make more of a name for yourself, make a big mistake, then get sentenced to death for it. But instead of death, someone pities you and sends you to exile in a nearly uninhabitable hell of a planet.
Based on the years that went by without any mention of Andross and James’ surprised reactions to Venom’s climate, no one cared whether he was alive or dead anymore. They do care if he is alive though, he might cause trouble.
All the while, all his groundbreaking work on tech, science, etc is still being used by Corneria. He must have felt like everything he worked for was stolen while he festers on Venom as an unperson.
No wonder he gained an army of sympathizers with that narrative he can spin.

On This Day On This Day in Nintendo History: Virtual Boy; Mole Mania; Mario Tennis; Mario Kart: Super Circuit; Rhythm Heaven Fever and more
On this day (July 21) in Nintendo history...
- Volleyball was released in 1986 for the Family Computer Disk System in Japan. In this sports game, developed by Nintendo R&D3, here's your chance to bump, set and spike your way to victory! Enjoy a game of volleyball as you spike for a point, slam a perfect serve, and make a save that wins the game for your team. It's all up to you because you call the shots in Nintendo Volleyball! You'll start by selecting a team from the country of your choice.
- The Virtual Boy was released in 1995 in Japan. A 32-bit table-top video game console developed by Nintendo R&D1. It was marketed as the first console capable of displaying stereoscopic "3D" graphics. The player uses the console like a head-mounted display, placing their head against the eyepiece to see a red monochrome display. The games use a parallax effect to create the illusion of depth. Sales failed to meet targets, and by early 1996, Nintendo ceased distribution and game development, releasing only 22 games for the system. The Virtual Boy was panned by critics and was a commercial failure. Its failure has been cited as due to its high price, monochrome display, unimpressive "3D" effect, lack of true portability, health concerns, and low quality games. Its negative reception was unaffected by continued price drops. "3D" technology in video game consoles reemerged in later years to more success, included in Nintendo's 3DS handheld console. The Virtual Boy is Nintendo's second lowest-selling platform after the 64DD.
- Galactic Pinball was released in 1995 for the Virtual Boy in Japan. In this pinball game, developed by Intelligent Systems, from within the darkest depths of the Milky Way galaxy, a strange new world has been discovered: Space World. Galactic Pinball has four space-themed tables: Cosmic, Colony, UFO and Alien, each with its own gimmick that provides a high score. Collect star marks to enter the bonus stage and hit stars with the pinball for a bonus.
- Mario's Tennis was released in 1995 for the Virtual Boy in Japan. In this sports game, developed by Nintendo R&D1, Mario and friends take to the tennis courts. The aim is to hit the ball onto the opponent's side of the court, and past them to score. You must also hit the ball back if it is hit onto your side to avoid losing. The 3D effect gives the court depth, but the characters are flat cartoons. You have to play through a tournament of characters to win.
- Panic Bomber was released in 1995 for the Virtual Boy in Japan. In this puzzle game, developed by Hudson Soft, it is a "falling blocks" game based on the Bomberman franchise. The goal of the game is essentially to cause your opponent to lose by causing their gameplay field to fill to the top with objects. You do this by causing chains of bombs to explode, sending useless rubble over to your opponent's field, which they must then remove themselves. Bombs are earned by causing chains of three identical blocks to disappear.
- Red Alarm was released in 1995 for the Virtual Boy in Japan. In this shoot 'em up game, developed by T&E Soft, set during the 21st century, it is the aftermath of a 70-year world war that led to the establishment of a Utopian society without weapons. An artificially intelligent defense system called "KAOS", which had been used to end the war, becomes sentient and builds an army to wipe out humanity. Assuming control of a "Tech-Wing" space fighter, the player seeks to destroy KAOS's forces and finally its mainframe.
- Teleroboxer was released in 1995 for the Virtual Boy in Japan. In this fighting game, developed by Nintendo R&D1, in the 22nd Century, "telerobotics" has become common use for applications to dangerous for humans. A human user remotely controls a humanoid machine. Dr. Edward Maki Jr. wanted to increase interest in the field, and so he developed teleroboxing, where two remotely-controlled machines fight for victory. You are one of the competitors in the Teleroboxing World Championships, along with your state-of-the-art fighting machine, Harry.
- Mole Mania was released in 1996 for the Game Boy in Japan. In this puzzle game, developed by Nintendo EAD with Pax Softnica, produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, Muddy Mole must rescue his family from evil farmer Jinbe. Your goal is to guide Muddy through each stage to the exit, but that's easier said than done! Enemies, obstacles and deviously designed levels all stand in your way. Fortunately, Muddy can dig beneath the surface and uncover new paths. Also, look out for bonus stages where you can get your own back on Jinbe.
- Mario Tennis was released in 2000 for the Nintendo 64 in Japan. In this sports game, developed by Camelot Software Planning, acclaimed as one of the most addictively fun games on Nintendo 64, the controls are simple and intuitive to give you a realistic tennis feel. Keep your opponent guessing by mixing up volleys and lobs, unleashing backhand smashes or unnerving them with different types of spin.
- Mario Kart: Super Circuit was released in 2001 for the Game Boy Advance in Japan. In this racing game, developed by Intelligent Systems, the Mario Kart series' first handheld outing is fun and lightning-fast! Mario Kart: Super Circuit takes the best elements of Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64, and turbo-charges them with 20 extra tracks, plus 20 classic tracks for experts to unlock.
