Hey all, I am putting this here so members of this subreddit can be more informed on whats happening lately.
If you aren't aware of whats going on with Tambolis Pizza or the National Guards presence in Memphis, google that first.
Due to these recent events, starting on July 15th we saw an increase in traffic that nearly doubled our typical daily visitors. Why? Because many of these accounts are bots, trolls, or real people that I dont relate to because they spend their time chasing news stories to local subreddits and end up harassing people.
Many of you may have seen a notification for a reply to your comment, only for that content to not be present when you click on the notification. Why is that? Its because of two reasons. We have an auto-moderator set up. It looks for key words or tone, and filters that content to the moderator queue. The end result is you get the notification, but the content is never seen by the public. The second is because of a feature called crowd control.

What does Crowd Control do? It enables automatic filtering based upon certain criteria.
- Moderate filtering: Filters accounts with negative community karma
- High filtering: Filters accounts with negative community karma and new accounts
- Maximum filtering: Filters accounts with negative community karma, new accounts, and non-members
Crowd control can be set subreddit wide, or on individual posts. This assists in keeping the bad actors out of our subreddit.
So we are trying to use the tools we have to keep the content civil, for Memphians, and not allow outside actors or bots to shape the discussion. So if you post about topics that are part of the national spotlight, like the National Guard, xAI, Tambolis, etc... you may want to message the mod team and ask them to enable crowd control on your post as a preventative measure.
I appreciate your help in keeping this subreddit civil and thanks for coming to my ted talk.
