Scheduled Thread Daily Questions Thread - Ask All Your Magic Related Questions Here!
This is a place for asking simple questions that might not deserve their own thread. For example, if you have a question about a rules interaction, want sleeve and accessory recommendations, or suggestions for your new deck, then this is the place for you.
We encourage that you post any questions that you may have concerning Magic the Gathering here rather than make a separate thread for each question, though for now we won't require that you do so.
Rules Questions
Rules questions and interactions are allowed to be posted here, but if you need an answer quickly it may be best to use a dedicated resource like the 24/7 Magic the Gathering Rules Chat.
Deckbuilding Questions
If you're trying to get help with a deck, it is recommended that you post your decklist to a deckbuilding website so that it is easier to view. Some popular sites are Aetherhub, Archidekt, Deckbox, Deckstats, Moxfield, MTGGoldfish, and TappedOut.
Additionally, please include some description of what you are trying to accomplish. Don't just give us a decklist with no explanation, and don't ask extremely vague questions such as "what cards should I add to my deck to make it better?", because it's hard to give good advice in those cases. Let us know details, the more the better. Are you building with a particular strategy or theme in mind? Are there any non-obvious combo lines or synergies that people should be aware of? Are you struggling with a particular matchup, or are you finding yourself missing consistency in an important area, and need some help specifically for it? Let us know.
Commonly Asked Questions
I opened a card from a different set in my booster pack, is this unusual?
Don't worry, this is completely normal. If you opened a set booster, you have a small chance of obtaining a bonus card from a previous set. This is an extra card that does not replace any of the other cards in your pack, and is from a curated set of past hits that Wizards of the Coast has selected, which they call "The List".
You can view the contents of The List on Wizards of the Coast's official website. For example, the contents of The List for Streets of New Capenna boosters can be found here.
My foil card has a shooting start symbol over the bottom left. I can't find anything about it online.
All old-bordered foils have the shooting star symbol. Most sites that display card images just overlay a generic foil graphic over all foil cards, which doesn't include the shooting star. Your card is normal.

Scheduled Thread Wound-Up Wednesdays - Vent here!
Aren't you tired of being nice? Don't you just wanna go apeshit?
Got a burning rage deep within your soul? Perhaps you've been countered for the eleven billionth time. Aggro is ruining your win streak on Arena. Your friend keeps complaining about being targeted whenever they play a stax deck and you're just sick of it. There's some guy at your LGS who never showers. Standard is dying at your LGS and it's upsetting. Or maybe you just feel like Universes Beyond will KILL MAGIC.
Whatever is eating away at your heart, unleash it here!
(Please refrain from insulting other users even if you think their gripes are silly. This is a safe place to vent. Memetic responses are welcome provided you're not degrading anyone.)

Looking for Advice Is there an easy win win?
I started playing Magic in 1998 and it was a big part of my life for well the majority of it at this point. I remember I signed up for the guru program when I was like 10 just because I wanted the free starter kit so I could have more cards than the two precons I'd managed to afford. They never showed up, but I got 5 basic lands randomly a year afterwards, hooray stupid lands.
Anyway I want to get rid of the last of my collection, its a bunch of stuff I forgot I had stored after I sold off my main collection back in 2018-19, it was bulk, but since I got out these scanner apps have popped up, so I scanned through four or five boxes, enough to give me a head ache and a sore neck. I wasnt expecting much value but .. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kK0dKjirJUIq4ChalqXbShYl2TU7BgEW/view?usp=drivesdk
I'm out of touch with the community the LGS I used to haunt closed shop, my younger family and friends kids arent the type, I can't just throw them away because they're Magic cards and their importance is still some kind of core part of me apparently regardless of how I feel about the game these days. Plus I'm - not rich, a human and not zealously charitable. I also want them to go somewhere they'll be exciting or cool or whatever to someone again. I could just sell off the stuff I put in binder based on the info from the app, but that's only like 600 some cards out of maybe 2500 that I looked through and there's well over 10k total.
Are there any groups that go for big collections or should I try to find like a convention to take them to? What would you do in my shoes?
Oh and the Guru lands aren't in this, my mother burned my first collection..

Looking for Advice Looking for playmats but I’m worried about it being too distracting
I’m fairly new and looking for playmats, I found this one on jankmats but I’m worried that the bright pink colors are a bit too distracting and the cards might get hard to see/jumbled in the art. Any opinions on this? Have you ever had or had another player with a distracting playmat? Is jankmats a good website to buy from? Should I go with a more subtle, less colorful and more minimalist playmat? Thanks in advance!

General Discussion Magic Math with Frank Karsten is some of the best content around right now
Currently on the TCGPlayer yt channel, Frank Karsten (Pro Tour hall of fame and phd in game theory and probability theory) is doing a series on the mathematics of mtg. He goes very in depth with some interesting concepts that I have found to be very helpful for my deckbuilding and gameplay strategy. I thought I knew a lot, having learned about the hypergeometric distribution and reading his article on how many sources of each color to play, but I've learned a lot more through this series. Haven't seen many people talking about this, so I highly recommend checking it out. I've linked my favorite one so far, which talks about how many copies of a card you should run.

General Discussion What single card would you choose to answer the question of what Magic is about?
Your choice whether you interpret this for the lore, the gameplay, the feeling...

Official Spoiler Next Year's Universes Beyond sets will be "a bit more fantasy adjacent", per Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks
From the article:
While highlighting the announcement of the three in-universe, first-party sets from this past weekend’s MagicCon: Amsterdam preview panels, Cocks also touted the unannounced Universes Beyond sets coming in 2027. He said the IPs, which there will be three of next year, are really strong and that fans will be thrilled by them.
“One thing I will say on the Universes Beyond partners that we have next year is that they will be a bit more fantasy adjacent,” Cocks said. “And I don’t think any of them take place in New York City, because we definitely have gotten that feedback from some fans.”
