Regarding removals and pride month.

1.5k Upvotes

Full disclosure, I am the only active mod left except automod at this point and a few other spam bots. Unfortunately, it's threshold for reports and removals was set to 3. So any post that had 3 reports got yanked by automod, and we know how ignorant homophobes love to report things that make them uncomfortable or challenge their narrow world view.

Around an hour ago Admins upped my privileges and I have increased the threshold for automod to remove posts while I try to triage what was properly removed and what was removed because of the aforementioned group. It may be slow going but I'll do my best.

Soon I plan to recruit some new mods, now that I have the permissions, to keep these kind of shitshows from reoccurring. Watch for it if you have interest and experience.

Until then happy pride month, fly your flag and love whoever the fuck you want to love (even if it's Bill).

Revival Discussion The Season 15 Finale Completely Changes the Entire Tone of Season 14 Spoiler

When season 14 came out last year, obviously everyone was taken off guard by the big drop that Hank had left Strickland to work for Aramco. I never had an issue with the change, but it always felt a bit cynical for the show. Almost like Hank got poached from his much beloved job and left everyone behind for money.

After watching the finale, it really changes the entire framing of it into a much more depressing internal struggle. He wasn't a hot commodity. He took the first job that gave him an interview because he was desperate. Hearing Hank tell Buck outright that he got everything he wanted in Saudi Arabia but it didn't feel like a family shows that even Hank understood that he was working for a faceless corporation and that even if he took pride in his own work, he wasn't where he wanted to be.

It gives his struggles with being retired a lot more depth because he didn't want to be done working. He just gave up on trying to work in Arlen ever again. The Hills uprooted their entire way of life because Buck Strickland is an asshole and just made the best of it until they could come home and never have to worry about money again. It really gives the revival a lot more layers, and it makes me wonder if Peggy is really going to stay retired too.

Revival Discussion I know, by and large, most of the recasts have been met with mixed reactions, but can we take a minute to appreciate Tai Leclaire's Joseph Gribble?

β€’ Upvotes

I mean, between Dale and Kahn, most of the show's recasts have been rough, to say the least. (Dale is easily the toughest one for me. I love you, Toby Huss, but you're just not Johnny Hardwick.)

That said, while everyone seems to focus on the negatives, I wish more people would talk about how great Tai Leclaire is as Joseph. Even with his limited screen time, he's delivered some of the funniest one liners in the revival, and I genuinely love the dynamic he has with both Bobby and Dale. Tai has really made Joseph feel like a natural evolution of the character rather than just a replacement, and I think he deserves a lot more appreciation than he gets.

OG KOTH Discussion Name a "win" that you wish a character kept.

Personally, I think Bill should have gone ahead and sold the sauce (with Gilbert being a hypocrite and all). Also, I liked his relationship with that senator.

Revival Discussion I wanted to love Kahn and Minh but they really are just bad people

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Kahn and Minh were the best blend of petty dickheads and funny in the original version to make me love them. They also seemed perfect for each other in the original show. Now in the remake they’re divorced and bitter towards each other. The birthday episode pissed me off the most because it felt like a character development moment where they get along for Connie’s sake but instead they just go back to tag teaming Bobby. They aren’t any more or less rude than the original but the jokes don’t land as much and it’s removed the impact Kahn development episodes have.

Revival Discussion The new seasons need holiday episodes.

One of the biggest things the new king of the hill seasons are missing are the Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes. Iowkey thought season 15 would have at least one of those soon as they mentioned Connie's birthday being in November but I guess not. I understand maybe it wouldn't make sense since the season premiers during peak summer but they could also just produce the holiday specials and release them when appropriate. Christmas with the Niefkos.

Revival Discussion John Redcorn in "The Best Little Marriage in Texas"

Post image
β€’ Upvotes

So at the end of the episode we see John Redcorn coming by for a "massage" again. But in the Original series I'm pretty sure Nancy had cut it off already in episodes like Nancy boys and Hair Today, Gone Today. Season 14, they teased things about their past relationship but it was never really overtly hinted at that they got back together. So does that mean she started cheating again in between the time skip cause that feels like a step backwards for her character honestly.

Revival Discussion Peggy Using APA for English Lit Paper

I'm a writing center specialist at a community college. My colleagues and I edit student essays all day. When Peggy was going over Dave's essay in No-Cuddle Offense, she took off points for improper APA formatting. You wouldn't use APA in an arts and humanities course like English. You use APA in science classes. It's kinda like using margarine when the recipe calls for butter. I wonder if it was an actual mistake or an intended one for Peggy.

lol sorry for the tangent. I saw something related to me and got excited. Thought it would be funny to point to my fellow writing and rhetoric nerds on here.

Revival Discussion Where are all the Lady Bird stans? Spoiler

Do you feel okay now? Lol. Lady Bird got the moment she deserved, and look at that. All you had to do was wait! See? They just wanted to do it right, they didn’t forget about her. Of course Hank thinks of her. He got her a plot. Hank would never be the type to spend that kind of money on an animal. He loved his Lady Bird. πŸ₯Ί
