Has anyone else experienced this? I am 3 days into this. I was exposed to sound on a Bluetooth speaker at about 110 dB for around 5-10 minutes after I was mostly recovered from 2 prior injuries, and now for the past 3 days I have had uncontrollable ear fullness, inner ear pain, and rawness. It doesn't go away after sleeping or resting in silence. I did not have any pain at the time of exposure but woke up the next day with increased sensitivity.

I am not sure what to do.

Has anyone found a space to do this? I would like to bring it up with a therapist but I don't trust them not to send me to a ward. A ward would obviously be devastating and dangerous to me, as I am a young woman with autism living in inner city Atlanta without health insurance.

It’s wild to me doctors are clueless

So among the symptoms which keep pilling up month after month (everything started after I have been given an ototoxic medication + acoustic trauma), I developed post-nasal drip a few months ago. I have the strongest feeling it's connected to my cochlear damage. How, I don't know, maybe it's because of the middle ear / ET muscles.

Ok so he has problems with his middle ear muscles, any convincing theory about how it can lead to PND ?

I've also read a post on tinnitustalk from someone complaining about clogged nostrils after developing a myriad of symptoms from neomycin (T+H among them).

What helped your hyperacusis? Plz dont write anything negative or describe your experiance negatively,im very sensitive,very depressed,im just trying to gather as much info as to what can heal me from this torture.ive been to countless doctors and no help.plz help me figure out.my entire life is ruined.my singing career.my joy.everything.also,if you got cured youre welcome to share how long it took and anything that could bring me hope.

just suck it up through the 7.5 week basic training and pick an office job? because my T and H isn’t that bad it’s only bad doing very loud stuff and I‘ll probably have ear pro in during that stuff

it’s just I can’t rot and do nothing the rest of my life I need to do something.

I hate summer.. have a good day after days/week/weeks rest then the sound of these mentions in title fucks me up .. and all over place car roads and live close to highway ..

I think the worst thing you can do is stay locked up all day. I've had hypercuity for two years, and it's gotten much worse since I've been cooped up. The less you do, the more your body atrophies, It's good to get out and be in quiet environments; it helps a lot. I'd feel better. Regards.

hello y'all, I'm a hyperacusis baby having just experienced acoustic trauma 11 days ago. I have been reading up on the Ronnie Spector method and it all makes sense except for one thing. transient noises like dishes clattering.

I'm not sure whether to avoid these sounds all together or not. I got my LDL levels checked and it seems I am comfortable at 75db for low to mid frequencies but it drops off to about 50-60db towards the upper mid and high frequencies.

what this tells me is that most mid frequencies are fine but its high pitched ones that make me uncomfortable.

Any advice?

I've had this for as long as I can remember and I'm wondering if anyone else experiences something similar.

I can voluntarily produce the "ear rumbling" sound (like thunder, wind, or a distant storm in my ears/head), which I believe is caused by the tensor tympani muscle.

In addition to that, I experience another symptom: whenever I listen to speech through speakers (online meetings, YouTube videos, phone speakers, etc.), both of my ears start making a clicking/crackling sound. It only happens while the sound is playing and stops immediately when the audio stops. Lowering the volume usually doesn't make a difference.

I've also been sensitive to loud sounds since childhood. Things like toilet flushing or car doors slamming have always felt painfully loud to me.

Has anyone experienced both voluntary ear rumbling and sound-triggered clicking/crackling? Are these known to be related, or has anyone received a diagnosis that explained both symptoms?

I just realized I know my next door neighbors personal information from my hyperacusis. My neighbors cannot say I placed anything when it’s from simply being able to hear them. What’s even funnier about it is that we despise each other and I don’t think they even realize I know their ssn’s and all that from being able to hear their conversations. Honestly the neighbor would take it as a threat if he knew I knew his info but then again it’s not like I can stop my ears from listening soooo….

Hi folks. Unfortunately was in the wrong place at the wrong time with nearby fireworks - about 50yds away, by a park, some dipshits were letting off the real stuff; the stuff thats let off professionally at sports games, etc.

Anways, Ive seen an ENT twice. Once immediately following the incident and again about 3 weeks ago. Thankfully, the auditory impact (lost some db in the mid to upper mid range frequencies) havent worsened, but if im near loud music, a warm, inflammed and congested sensation appears in the ear that was closest to the fireworks.

Should I expect this to be this way rest of my life or will it slowly but surely die out?

Hello guys. I want to get some positive feedback if possible as I know there are mild cases on here. I know that my H/nox got so much better when I got off the forums and stopped being fearful so I’m trying to do everything I can to fight the fear and go do stuff if the situation is scientifically proven to not damage hearing.

When I was super fearful of fireworks in January I got a rumbling tone in my right ear and I think when I’m nervous it comes back every now and then. I don’t even think it was sound induced. But it’s been a lot lot quieter. I mean I was hiding in my closet with double protection but when I changed my mindset I was able to drive to my doc appt the very next day.

I frequent a local historic theater that I normally have to wear earplugs to. I’m sure it’s slightly louder than the regular theater for some reason but when I put my musician earplugs in I come out the other end fine. They are rated for -24dB but I’m sure it really blocks a lot less. I mean it blocks enough sound for me to hear my mild T sometimes depending on how loud the movie is.

I just heard that The Odyssey is a loud movie and I was excited all week and now I’m nervous. I have my musician earplugs and I will bring my Sony headphones just in case even though they don’t block much. I also have my Apple Watch but I haven’t used it in a while. Doesn’t it tell you she sounds are too loud? That would give me peace of mind if I knew it would tell me that.

Would the bass still damage my hearing with earplugs in if it’s shaking the seat? Or would a movie theater not get loud enough to do that?

Hi everyone. I need some advice regarding travel and university.

It has been over 2.5 months since the acoustic shock and I have mild hyperacusis, pressure/fullness in my ears and pain (burning, aching) in my ears. I still can't tolerate digital audio yet. My hearing test came back all normal. I understand recovery takes time but when you first started experiencing symptoms, did you cancel all upcoming plans or worked around it?

I booked a trip overseas that is next month before this happened and the audiologist said I am okay to fly but I just don't see how I will be able to manage it. I also have my work placement in 3 months. I don't know if I should be pushing through this or if I should cancel this trip and postpone the semester. I don't want to make things worse for my ears especially since I'm still in the early recovery phase. Advice on what to do around this would be appreciated.

I don't have major reaction to body sounds but people with chain saws, electric saws, weed-wackers, lawn tractors, tractors, power washers, bad loud music, horror and action movies sounds, or layered sounds like dishwasher, music, talking and dogs on top of each other make me go off the charts. It feels like physical pain and insane rudeness specifically directed towards me. I will get super angry or just cry from feeling overwhelmed. My family makes fun of me for being "too sensitive" but it feels like intense pain. I've made choices in my life to be in the quietest environment in my job and home. I left a very good therapist because of clearing throat sounds. If my kids sniffle in I freak out because I don't want to hear snot sucked into their bodies when it could come out. I seek out places with no roads or electricity. I have revenge fantasies about people who make these noises. My heart rate goes up and I have "emotional disregulation" when encountering certain sounds. I've tried regular earplugs and the most intense loop earplugs but they hurt my ears and I can still hear everything. I tried multiple airpods max and they hurt my ears. I went to an audiology test at 52 because I was wondering if there was any problem. They told me I have surfer's ear from swimming in cold water for my whole life (canada lake). They also told me I am a "super hearer" and have way more intense hearing than average (or am I just good at guessing words spoken softly?). If you experience this or have any support ideas which are not "embracing the sound" please let me know.

After a worsening a month ago from an accidental high pitch noise near me while I was in plugs. I immediately had instant burn(it’s always been delayed before) and itch. Now my main trigger is my vocal cords. I’ll silently sneeze it even whisper the tiniest amount and it sends intense itching and then burn open would pain in ears. I also have every middle ear symptom, ttts, it get’s worse in the cold and worse laying down so I just know this is type 2 nerve or middle ear muscle issues, i’m getting aching now in ear , stinging . This all started from getting visual snow syndrome and then 6 weeks later randomly getting nox from idk what noise. Now 10 months later and I only get worse and worse

I don’t think I can do this much longer. This is only one of my many medical problems.

acoustic trauma happened on may 28th. Had ringing,but went away June 4. bam I got hyperacusis and dyscuses. First 2 weeks were horrible! I had so many symptoms.

-eeeooo sound when walking (this stoped)

-metallic sound to water (this has stopped kind of, there’s a new tone )

-everything sounded loud kind of

-the wind chirp (this stopped )

-I’m 6 weeks in and can handle all house hold noises besides the tv and almost all outside noises

-still struggle to go to grocery stores though ( sounds like a dang shooting range )

-I did go see an ent at week 5 ( the perdisone I believed helped a bunch ) I’ve been off of it for a week or so

-got some 17db molded plugs made

I know this will probably be a 2-4 year recovery, but I will power through ! Any positive advice is welcomed .

I think I might have hyperacusis, but it comes up sometimes and leaves. Now it's back, and I do not know what to do.

Some backstory: A few years ago, when I woke up and all sounds became very loud, I noticed because I turned on the sink, and it sounded very loud, like painful, and I know how running water sounds. I worked in logistics back then, and the environment was very loud, so then I thought that might be it. I got fired from that job not long after, so I thought nothing of it.

Fast forward two years; I didn't have any loud environments when summer school started. I noticed it last night that sounds became louder. Now I am at a point where my own voice is so loud that it sounds different. I wanted to work in logistics again, and tomorrow is my first workday. It's a loud environment; my doctor is on vacation until the 3rd of August, so I do not know what to do.

I don't know if it's hyperacusis or something else. I do not want to damage my hearing further, but I do need money, and I can't call my doctor. What do I do?

Reminds me of the time a family doctor made fun of me for having "super hearing" when i told her about the fact day to day noises caused me very bad pain to hear.
