Subreddit Announcement 🧟 The Monthly Zombie Crawl - Spread the Infection

Welcome to the monthly r/Garmin Zombie Crawl!

The goal is simple: Help fellow Garmin users earn the rare Zombie Badge while meeting other members of the community and having some fun along the way.

What is the Zombie Badge?

The Zombie Badge is one of Garmin Connect's most unique and sought-after badges.

Unlike most badges, it spreads from user to user. To earn it, you must complete a user-created Garmin Connect challenge with someone who already has the Zombie Badge. Once completed, you'll earn the badge and be able to spread the infection to others.

How Do I Participate?

There are two easy ways to get involved:

Option 1: Join the Official r/Garmin Garmin Connect Group

r/Gamin Buddies!

Many members use the group to find others interested in challenges, discuss goals, and coordinate Zombie Badge events.

Option 2: Connect Directly with Other Members

You do not need to join the group to participate.

Simply comment below with:

  • Your Garmin Connect username
  • Whether you currently have the Zombie Badge
  • The type of challenge you'd like to do (walking, running, cycling, steps, etc.)

Other members can then reach out and coordinate challenges directly.

Friendly or Competitive - Your Choice

The Zombie Crawl is intentionally flexible.

Some members enjoy friendly challenges and simply want to help others earn the badge.

Others prefer competitive challenges and like to see who can come out on top.

Both approaches are welcome.

Whether you're chasing a personal best, walking the dog, training for a marathon, or just collecting badges, everyone is encouraged to participate.

Community Rules

Free Participation Only

Participation in the Zombie Crawl must always be free.

No member may:

  • Charge money
  • Request donations
  • Sell access to challenges
  • Promote paid services
  • Require purchases of any kind

This event exists solely to help Garmin users connect, have fun, and spread the Zombie Badge throughout the community.

Be Respectful

Remember that Garmin users come from all fitness levels and backgrounds.

A 5,000-step walking challenge can be just as meaningful as a marathon training block.

Encourage others, have fun, and help keep the infection spreading.

Helpful Resources

Garmin's official blog has a great overview of Garmin Connect badges, including the Zombie Badge:

https://www.garmin.com/en-US/blog/fitness/the-25-garmin-connect-badges-you-never-knew-you-needed/

Already Infected? 🧟

If you already have the Zombie Badge, consider helping newer members earn theirs.

The more infected users we have, the easier it becomes for future members to join the fun.

Now get out there and spread the infection.

Just thought I'd share for those of you considering getting the Cirqa and armband, DesFit's latest video mentioned that Garmin will have an armband purchase option for just $10 more when purchased with the Cirqa.

EDIT: Desfit corrected me. The $210 will be a purchase option for the Cirqa tracker device itself and the arm band only (no wrist band).

Watch / Wearable Forerunner 975 on the way?

Post image

I was recently asked to take a golf survey in Garmin connect on the web interface. It’s asking a bunch of questions and also asking about what watches/products I use and then at the bottom of the Foreunner watch list it references a Forerunner 975.

Possible Technical Issue LED issue?

Anyone have this purpleish rim around the watch? I have a forerunner 165 and sometimes the screen goes black for hours. The buttons still function and I feel it vibrate. I have tried resets but it still goes black. Any solution or ideas would be appreciated! Or maybe it’s a good excuse for an upgrade haha
(Ignore low step count lol)

Watch / Wearable Fashion question

I love my Fenix 8, but I also enjoy wearing mechanical watches like Tudor, Elliot Brown, and Seiko. I’m considering getting the Garmin CIRQA so I can keep all of Garmin’s health tracking while wearing a traditional watch.
Does anyone here actually wear a CIRQA (or similar tracker) on one wrist and a regular watch on the other? Does it feel normal after a while, or does it just look odd? Any regrets?

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training Am I using Jeff Galoway plan properly ?

I recently got a Garmin Forerunner 165 to help me transition from usual running to minimalist shoes (I'm also recovering from chronic calf injury).

I started the Jeff Galoway plan (run-walk-run) as it is stated that it would minimize risks of injury.

I set a target for a half-marathon, with no specific time in mind, just to be able to finish.

However, I'm several weeks in (something like 4 or 5 weeks), but usually 2 of the 3 training of the weeks are 'Drill Workout' with no changes, no goals, nothing. It just has a 10min warmup, 10min cooldown, and 4 reps of 30s acceleration, the rest is basically "laps" with no distance or time specified. So I could do as low as 5km, or 10km. I believed the goal of the plan was to help slowly increase the distance, but without any goals it just feels a bit useless. I could just as well go and run, I don't need a plan for that. Also, I thought that the number of reps, or duration would change based on my performances, but it doesn't seem to change so far.

I was expecting to have distance goals everytime (or almost everytime) that adapts based on my past performances as well as the feedback given at the end of each workout (the rated difficulty and feeling), but so far, 90% of the plan consists of saying "do 4 reps of 30s acceleration in the middle of your run, and 4 reps of 'gliding'".

I was expecting something like "you ran 20km in 2 workout this week while you only did 21km in 3 workouts last week, and you said you found your last workout difficult, just do 4km for your last workout instead of 6km" for example.

Maybe I'm expecting too much, or maybe I'm not using the program correctly, or maybe this is not the program for me. Please let me know.

Accessories / Companion Device Garmin HRM 600 blinking red

Upvotes

I noticed my HRM 600 will sometimes blink red during my run. Per the manual, this means a connection issue. After my last run with this issue, I “forgot” the connection on my watch then re-paired it and charged it overnight. I also restarted my watch (Fenix 7). Same issue on my run today.

My heart rate data does appear accurate. I’ve run several thousand miles the past few years and can usually tell what my heart rate should be. My wrist HR monitor data is usually wildly inaccurate and I can usually tell when that’s the source.

I checked my connection with the HR monitor after my run and it says paired. When I view the activity after saving it shows the HR monitor as a device used.

What am I missing? Only thing I can think of is my last two runs were on the treadmill.

Possible Technical Issue Forerunner 955 Elevation Gain Accuracy

Upvotes

I have had issues with my watch tracking accurate elevation gain in all activities. In relatively flat terrain, it seems to do just fine. When there is lots of elevation change, it seems to always gift me like 20%-30% of the actual elevation I have gained.

I have tried the basic online troubleshooting. Cleaning the barometric sensor. I have my watch set to prompt me for calibration during an activity start. I always calibrate. That seems to help. If I don't calibrate, it may be 50%-60% off (always high). Calibrating still results in incorrect values. Any tips or similar experiences?

Possible Technical Issue Garmin edge 540 blocked

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello,

I recently purchased a Garmin Edge 540 cycling computer, but it remains stuck on the startup screen displaying the message: "Loading courses, workouts and locations...". Connecting it to my PC via the supplied USB-C cable didn't help; the screen remained frozen on that message.

I then reset the device by simultaneously pressing the power button and the two bottom buttons. The reset was successful, and I was able to connect the device to the Garmin Express app. However, once I disconnected it, the problem returned, and the screen froze again with the same message.

Do you have a solution?

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features Is Garmin wildly overestimating my Lactate Threshold HR (%LTHR)? Z2 set at 146-162 bpm seems way off

Hey everyone!
I’ve been running for about 3-4 months now and have been using a Garmin Forerunner 265 for the past couple of months, always paired with a chest strap to ensure the most accurate heart rate tracking possible.
I wanted to switch my training zones to be based on % of Lactate Threshold Heart Rate (%LTHR) instead of % of Max HR, since I read it's much more accurate for structuring workouts. After logging a few threshold sessions, I updated my settings in Garmin Connect so it would automatically calculate my zones based on %LTHR.

However, the resulting ranges seem completely absurd. Here are my stats:

-Age: 25
-Max HR (theoretical/recorded): 191 bpm
- Lactate Threshold HR (Garmin calculated): 183 bpm (96% of my Max HR?!)
-Resulting Zone 2: 146 - 162 bpm

Running in "Zone 2" up to 162 bpm feels insane to me; at that heart rate, it definitely doesn't feel like an easy run.
(Screenshots of my zone configuration and app settings attached).

A few questions for the community:

  1. Has anyone else experienced Garmin’s LTHR auto-detection overestimating their threshold by this much?
  2. Do you think it’s an algorithm glitch from picking up a random HR spike, or would doing the guided threshold test fix this?
  3. For those training by %LTHR, did you have to manually override the value or do you let the watch manage it automatically?

Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: i posted a comment where I show a data from a stress test

Watch / Wearable Cirqa ... ordered (Australia)

Upvotes

I saw the Garmin Australia website didn't have an "add to cart" option even thought it is supposed to be available today.

Being an impatient soul, and I'm on a day off, I called them and from the conversation it seems the option should be available and the back end team are looking into it.

But the guy did help out by sending an order link to my email address and a French grey band is on its way.

This is what I’m looking at on Active captain on my phone. I would like to be able to disable most icons as it is so much to try to see the detail of the map with them in place. I feel like I have tried all the options and nothing seems to remove them.
Any help would be appreciated

Possible Technical Issue Garmin Forerunner 955 Solar randomly freezes heart rate for 4–5 minutes

Hi everyone,

I'm having a strange issue with my Garmin Forerunner 955 Solar.

Several times a day, the heart rate reading randomly freezes at the exact same value for about 4–5 minutes. During that time, the green optical sensor LEDs are still flashing, so the sensor appears to be active. However, the heart rate never updates.

I also noticed another symptom: when this happens, raising my wrist no longer turns on the display automatically. Once the issue resolves itself, both the heart rate updates and the wrist gesture for the backlight start working again.

I've already tried everything I could think of, including a full factory reset, but the problem is still happening.

Has anyone experienced something similar or found a fix?

Thanks

Which Watch To Get? Do you actually use the ECG function on smartwatch? (Especially cardiac patients.)

[Obligatory: I know this is not medical advice, I am under the care of cardiology, this is just to supplement.]

I currently have a Venu SQ Music, and I'm looking at upgrading. I like the look of the Vivoactive 5 or 6.

However - I have heart failure, I use my current watch to track things like heart rate and SpO2.

I see the Vivoactive doesn't have the ECG feature, The Venu 3 and up does. I'm debating - is it a feature I will actually get much use of, or am I likely to not miss it if I go for the more affordable model?

I know there's a tendency with smart devices to go for All The Features then not end up using them, so I figured it was worth an ask - is it something you find you actually use much?

Possible Technical Issue Garmin Race predictor estimate way off

I have a Garmin Forerunner 55 and I've had it for about a month now, running 20-25K a week with it. My goal is sub 20 minute 5K and my best effort was 21:15 when I first got the watch. Since then I ran a number of training sessions, intervals, thresholds and even a couple race pace attempts. I've improved my 5K time to sub 21 minutes now yet the Race Predictor gives me 23:21 for a 5K?? I could understand it if I hadn't run a 5K effort with the watch on yet, but I did. It recorded it! This estimate is complete nonesense.

Which Watch To Get? 970 or Fenix 8

Hi there, this has probably been asked a million times but due to work perks I can basically get either of these two watches for the same price. I predominantly run with some weights sessions thrown in as well.

From what I’ve researched the Fenix will be ‘too much’ watch and the 970 would be better suited. Is it silly to go for the 970 though if they’d essentially be the same price?

Badges / Challenges New Expeditions?

Any ideas about whether Garmin will add new expeditions in Connect? I've done all of them except for K2. Seems like they could create all kinds of new ones--the PCT, an "Around the World" one, coast to coast in the USA, along the Nile, around London, etc. Not that the imaginary internet points mean anything, but it is fun to see what your movements all add up to.

Connect / Connect IQ / 1st Party Apps Imported Data, Doesn't Affect PRs on Connect App

I used to track everything on Strava until I got my Garmin watch last year. I ended up cancelling Strava and imported all of my activities to Garmin Connect. The problem is

  1. I had to manually go in and mark bike rides as cycling
  2. Garmin acts like all of the PRs from before don't exist under PR although when I go back in under All Activities, they come up

Any idea for a fix? I haven't ridden as hard this last year and would really like my PRs from before in there.
