Cirqa Chase the Summit - Initial Impressions

I initially thought this will replace my current Epix 2 but it seems more likely I will use them both for activities, and the band for general stats tracking.

Anyone else exited to be able to be able to wear their normal watches again ?

Garmin also mentioned that they reconsidered and add the HR display during an activity without a subscription required.

Cirqa Garmin Cirqa doesn't show live heart rate on the screen unless you pay for Connect+

Thumbnail

One of the most baffling things about Cirqa so far is that it doesn't show live heart rate for workouts unless you have a Garmin Connect+ subscription.

I can't tell if this is just a mistake on Garmin's part, or has the enshittification of garmin devices begun? I have to say that it seems quite intentional. Disappointing as hell.

I'm worries that this is going to be their approach towards Connect+ going forward - not to give new "advanced" features, but to take away features that were already free in previous watches. Imagine buying a Fenix and seeing "Buy the Connect+ subscription to see your live heart rate" on the watch screen.

Watch / Wearable Question regarding use of multiple devices

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hello all, I have problems understanding how several devices sync their data to Garmin Connect.

I wear a Garmin Forerunner 945 throughout the day, that's where the data in the screenshot comes from. But I ride my bike on my commute to work, where I use my Garmin Edge and a HRM chest strap. I don't see the point in wearing my watch during the ride, because the data, including heat rate, gets recorded on the Edge. So for the bike rides, I take off my watch.

The thing is: during this time, there is no data available for body battery and other related stats (highlighted through the dotted graph, which basically means the data is incomplete). I don't understand why, because there is in fact data recorded during this time, just on a different device. If I look at my HR chart of the whole day, there those blanks are filled.

I don't see the point in wearing my watch while at the same time recording the bike rides on the Edge, only to have complete data.

Can someone help here? Is it really necessary to wear the watch all the time, even if I use other Garmin devices?

I'm eyeballing the Garmin Cirqa, but I was also thinking of taking it off during bike rides or swims, using it more as a passive tracker, but using my "real" sports related devices for recording activities. It would be a bummer buying a Cirqa but still having incomplete data.

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training The training program chose violence today

So, I paused my training for some vacation time for a week. Was doing some runs to get back into to it before resuming the training. Was doing good. Got my fastest mile at 9:55/mi 5 days ago.

I resumed the training this morning. The watch hit me with this bullcrap. 10:30/mi for 10 minutes, 8:55/mi for 20, and 10:30/mi for the last 10.

I tried. I hoped that my watch’s confidence in me was warranted. It was not. I couldn’t even complete the cooldown because my legs were so tired. Why, watch, why? Why did you want to kill me?

Just pre-ordered mine (black, xl). If you’re an REI member, you also get $20 back in rewards. I had so many rewards in my account, scored the Cirqa for $106! Hopefully it gets fulfilled at launch.

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training Race day missing from watch, but appears on Garmin Connect

I’ve been using a Garmin Coach plan for a race this weekend, and was, of course, immensely looking forward to selecting said run on my watch on race day morning and checking off the plan as completed

But weirdest thing, the plan looks totally normal on Garmin Connect in the app, with race day clearly marked as Sunday. But there’s no upcoming race on my watch at all…when I scroll through upcoming workouts this week, Sunday is marked as a scheduled rest day and planned workouts continue into next week, as though the training plan is still going.

I’ve never seen this kind of disconnect between what’s on the app and what’s on my watch before- anyone have any ideas??

Possible Technical Issue Fenix 8 on software 22.38 is extremely laggy, crashing, and rebooting — should I return it?

I bought a Garmin Fenix 8 a few days ago, and the experience has been extremely disappointing so far.

I updated it to software version 22.38 immediately after the initial setup. Since then, the watch has been very laggy, buggy, and unstable. It has rebooted by itself several times, and the problem now seems to be getting worse.

When I scroll through glances, the interface sometimes crashes and sends me straight back to the watch face. The same thing happens when scrolling through the apps menu. General navigation also feels slow and unresponsive.

I previously owned a Forerunner 265, and it was noticeably smoother and more reliable than this Fenix 8, which is difficult to accept considering the price difference.

I spent around two hours with Garmin chat support and tried several different troubleshooting steps, but nothing helped. I also uninstalled all of my Connect IQ apps to rule out third-party software, but the crashes and lag are still happening.

Is anyone else experiencing this on version 22.38? Is Garmin aware of it, and has there been any indication that a fix is coming soon?

At this point, I am seriously considering returning the watch. This level of instability is not acceptable for a device that costs around €1,000.

Cirqa Cirqa during the night, Fenix8 during the day

Hey guys, love my fenix8 and been wearing it daily ever since I got it. My only problem is: I hate how bulky it is while sleeping and end up putting it on my nightstand, not tracking any vital data during the night.
I’ve had a whoop in the past which didn’t bother me with its slim form factor. Now with cirqa I’m considering getting it, to get sleep data and using the fenix8 during the day and my workouts.

Anyone know if data would sync up nicely and whether that would be a supported use case?

Which Watch To Get? Do you actually use the ECG function on smartwatch? (Especially cardiac patients.)

Upvotes

[Obligatory: I know this is not medical advice, I am under the care of cardiology, this is just to supplement.]

I currently have a Venu SQ Music, and I'm looking at upgrading. I like the look of the Vivoactive 5 or 6.

However - I have heart failure, I use my current watch to track things like heart rate and SpO2.

I see the Vivoactive doesn't have the ECG feature, The Venu 3 and up does. I'm debating - is it a feature I will actually get much use of, or am I likely to not miss it if I go for the more affordable model?

I know there's a tendency with smart devices to go for All The Features then not end up using them, so I figured it was worth an ask - is it something you find you actually use much?

Rant Normal?

Upvotes

Started to train again after some time off. (seven Ish weeks off of high intensity training) just doing some zone 2 and some walks with yoga. Now that I’m starting to train again, I notice that my stats are off sometimes. Like today two days after my first gym session back. My hr is a bit higher but I believe that’s because ofc my bad sleep last night. And my heart rate variability is also down, but I don’t know if it’s because I had bad sleep two nights in a row or it’s because I’m generally doing too much when I’m returning to training. Because I’m not really doing that much if I look myself, I’m not going ball to the wall in my workout and I’m keeping a mostly chill routine, but I’m just scared that my stats are going down and I don’t know if it’s because of sleep or because I’m actually doing too much and if it’s normal to have my stats worse or not as good now I’m starting to train again

i’m not asking for medical help at all

Cirqa Garmin cirqa as a stand alone device for beginner

Upvotes

Hey guys,

I got i to the fitness scene like 2 months ago.
Changed my diet, started walking 10k steps a day, walking 40 floors a day, doing workout at home every second day.

I lost weight, reduced my body fat, drastically decreased my visceral fat and reduced my metabolic ago from 34 to 27.

Since a couple weeks i considered to buy a sports watch but couldn’t decide which one because im not a watch wearer. So i checked out smart bands but didnt like the subscription model from whoop.

Now with Cirqa, could this be a good stand alone companion i wrap around my arm and keep it there all the time? I feel like i dont need live tracking but once a day i wanna check my burned calories, walked steps, climbed floors, sleep and overall health.
Should i get cirqa or any other smart band?

Discussion FR970 vs Fenix 8 Solar vs Venu 4?

Hi everyone,

I’m thinking about buying my first Garmin watch. I previously used Amazfit watches, but I’m now considering switching to Garmin.

Most of my sports activities are running, jogging, weightlifting, and resistance training. I also care about everyday use, walking, sleep tracking, and general health metrics.

My main dilemma is between the Forerunner 970 and the Fenix 8 Solar, especially since their prices are relatively close. However, part of me thinks that the Venu 4 may already be more than enough for my needs.

I understand the main differences between the Venu 4 and the Forerunner 970, especially when it comes to advanced training metrics, navigation, maps, and running features. However, I’m not sure whether I would actually use all those additional features enough to justify the higher price.

By choosing the Venu 4, I could use the money saved to buy a Garmin chest strap or other useful accessories instead.

My biggest priority is longevity. I want a watch that I can keep for many years, both in terms of hardware durability and software support. I previously considered the Epix Pro Gen 2, but since it is already an older model, I’m concerned about buying it now if I plan to keep the watch for a long time.

Would the Venu 4 be sufficient for running, jogging, weightlifting, resistance training, sleep tracking, and everyday use?

Or would it be smarter to spend more on the Forerunner 970 or Fenix 8 Solar for better long-term value?

I don’t want to choose the cheaper watch and regret it later, thinking that I could have bought a more capable model that would remain useful for many years.

I’d especially appreciate opinions from people who do both running and strength training, or who have experience with more than one of these Garmin watch lines.

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features Garmin thinks I might drop dead any minute: an update

Hello all,

A few weeks ago I posted here asking about the stress and body battery scores, worried that they were not accurate as consistently showing high stress. I wanted to give an update in case this is helpful for anybody.

I have hiatus hernia and dust/hayfever allergies and after seeing a few positive posts reviewing wedge pillows I decided to try one. Within a week, my sleep scores, body battery and stress scores have improved A LOT! I guess I was so used to waking up during the night to blow my nose that I didn’t even clock it. I had allergies all my life so I didn’t know any better and thought that because I fall asleep easily and have a consistent sleep routine that I was having good quality sleep. I was so wrong…I’ve never slept so good and I wake up feeling truly refreshed. It also helps with lower back pain and the acidity from HH, which is a big plus.

Thank you to everyone who commented on my previous post!

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features Understanding Sleep Alignment

I recently started digging into the Sleep Alignment that my Fenix 8 can calculate. I’ve read the Help article on sleep alignment but t hasn’t quite answered my question:

Optimal bedtime and Optimal wake time - are these values that anyone has seen change over time? Right now my optimal wake time is 6:30 AM, but I have to leave for work by 6:40 AM. I know this isn’t anything super important, but if my circadian rhythm is estimated to be between the bedtime and wake time, I figure there is probably a way to shift this back a bit. Anyone notice this changing over time with their profile?

Which Watch To Get? Anybody else considering Garmin Cirqa?

So I've had a Garmin Fenix 6 Pro since like 2020 and it has worked flawlessly. I seriously love my watch. That said, I work in finance and like the look of a nice watch.

When I have an event to go to I usually take my Garmin off and wear a more professional looking watch. I'm considering getting the cirqa and wearing it on my right wrist all the time and then wearing a nicer watch on my left wrist all the time.

Honestly I don't track my workouts live on my watch anyways so I'm really not sure what features I would miss from not having a full Garmin Watch on all the time.

Anybody else feel this way or considering the same thing?

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training Daily suggested workouts variety?

I have used Garmin Daily Suggested workouts for over a year. This year I have completed one triathalon using garmin coach and am in the middle of another training plan for a second tri. Having garmin guiding my cycling and swims has been really neat since im a beginner.

But it got me thinking, prior to the triathlon plan, daily suggested workouts only offered a ''run.'' Since garmin has the capability to generate other workouts, is there a setting I can select where the DSW will give me options every day?

For example when Im not training for a specific event, is it possible to set it up so the DSW will suggest a run, ride, and a swim I could choose from based on what I feel like doing that day?

Which Watch To Get? New to Garmin? Overwhelmed

So I currently have a Fitbit air, I actually do genuinely like it, it’s really light and I love no screen, however now I’m getting more into running I want a watch that I can see how far I’m running and also use to improve my running.

I’m really overwhelmed at the amount of choice on Garmin, I don’t want to spend a fortune, but I do want it to work for me and running. Any help?? (I’ve seen the new screen less one about to be released but don’t see the point of upgrading to that as same issue as the Fitbit!)

Discussion Garmin forerunner 970 treadmill pace way off

I got a Garmin forerunner 970 (Apple Watch series 9 before) and the treadmill run pace seems pretty off.

On treadmill I set a 8m 20sec km pace.
During the run the watch was reporting extremely inaccurate pace. Range 7m to 7m 40s. The best I saw it was ~7m 50s

Note I was running the entire time.

The distance was also off by nearly +.5km.

After calibration stats
3.13km 24m 55s for average pace 7m 47s

But according to math it’s 7m 58s

(24x60)+55 =1,495
1,495/3.13=477.636
477.36/60=7.956
60*.956=57.36
7min 58s

Why is it so inaccurate? My Apple Watch was pretty much on par with treadmill. I only wore my Garmin, so I’ll repeat the run with both watches next time

Wondering where would be the best place to get it on launch day for faster delivery? Not sure if it will be listed on amazon at the same time.

Bestbuy is a option but probably will be sold out by the time I get there, also their delivery is aug 10th.

Possible Technical Issue Issues Connecting Pixel Watch 2 as Heartbeat Monitor

I recently bought a Garmin Edge 540 and have setup my Pixel Watch 2 as a heartbeat monitor and past the initial pairing I'm having a really hard time getting the two to connect.

The method I have been using to get the two to connect is to have both the edge awake and then on the pixel I select the connected fitness/share heartbeat menu and tap connect. I've gotten this to work a couple of times but it's extremely finicky and unreliable, the most recent ride I did I couldn't get it to connect and just went without the monitor.

I was just wondering if anyone has found a more reliable way to connect, either initiated through the edge or the watch. I've tried going into the sensors menu and selecting connect on the watch and the connection spinner appears for a while then eventually goes away without connecting. Auto connect is on, on both devices.
