Cirqa Garmin Cirqa doesn't show live heart rate on the screen unless you pay for Connect+

One of the most baffling things about Cirqa so far is that it doesn't show live heart rate for workouts unless you have a Garmin Connect+ subscription.

I can't tell if this is just a mistake on Garmin's part, or has the enshittification of garmin devices begun? I have to say that it seems quite intentional. Disappointing as hell.

I'm worries that this is going to be their approach towards Connect+ going forward - not to give new "advanced" features, but to take away features that were already free in previous watches. Imagine buying a Fenix and seeing "Buy the Connect+ subscription to see your live heart rate" on the watch screen.

Cirqa Chase the Summit - Initial Impressions

I initially thought this will replace my current Epix 2 but it seems more likely I will use them both for activities, and the band for general stats tracking.

Anyone else exited to be able to be able to wear their normal watches again ?

Garmin also mentioned that they reconsidered and add the HR display during an activity without a subscription required.

Wellness & Training Metrics / Features Garmin thinks I might drop dead any minute: an update

Hello all,

A few weeks ago I posted here asking about the stress and body battery scores, worried that they were not accurate as consistently showing high stress. I wanted to give an update in case this is helpful for anybody.

I have hiatus hernia and dust/hayfever allergies and after seeing a few positive posts reviewing wedge pillows I decided to try one. Within a week, my sleep scores, body battery and stress scores have improved A LOT! I guess I was so used to waking up during the night to blow my nose that I didn’t even clock it. I had allergies all my life so I didn’t know any better and thought that because I fall asleep easily and have a consistent sleep routine that I was having good quality sleep. I was so wrong…I’ve never slept so good and I wake up feeling truly refreshed. It also helps with lower back pain and the acidity from HH, which is a big plus.

Thank you to everyone who commented on my previous post!

Connect / Connect IQ / 1st Party Apps Why no love for Indoor Rowing?

After my knee replacement, my surgeon says my running days are over. I've switched to indoor rowing at the gym for my cardio. I've been working on lowering my 5km time. So, looking in Garmin Connect "personal records" section, there's nothing for indoor rowing. I've been recording rowing sessions for a couple of months now. I also tried to set up a goal for rowing 5km in 26 minutes. You can set a time goal for rowing but only in increments of whole hours. Who rows for hours? I tried entering .45 hours but it won't take anything other than whole hours. Why doesn't Garmin recognize rowing as a legitimate excercise for personal records and goals?

Just pre-ordered mine (black, xl). If you’re an REI member, you also get $20 back in rewards. I had so many rewards in my account, scored the Cirqa for $106! Hopefully it gets fulfilled at launch.

Which Watch To Get? New to Garmin? Overwhelmed

So I currently have a Fitbit air, I actually do genuinely like it, it’s really light and I love no screen, however now I’m getting more into running I want a watch that I can see how far I’m running and also use to improve my running.

I’m really overwhelmed at the amount of choice on Garmin, I don’t want to spend a fortune, but I do want it to work for me and running. Any help?? (I’ve seen the new screen less one about to be released but don’t see the point of upgrading to that as same issue as the Fitbit!)

Watch / Wearable Question regarding use of multiple devices

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hello all, I have problems understanding how several devices sync their data to Garmin Connect.

I wear a Garmin Forerunner 945 throughout the day, that's where the data in the screenshot comes from. But I ride my bike on my commute to work, where I use my Garmin Edge and a HRM chest strap. I don't see the point in wearing my watch during the ride, because the data, including heat rate, gets recorded on the Edge. So for the bike rides, I take off my watch.

The thing is: during this time, there is no data available for body battery and other related stats (highlighted through the dotted graph, which basically means the data is incomplete). I don't understand why, because there is in fact data recorded during this time, just on a different device. If I look at my HR chart of the whole day, there those blanks are filled.

I don't see the point in wearing my watch while at the same time recording the bike rides on the Edge, only to have complete data.

Can someone help here? Is it really necessary to wear the watch all the time, even if I use other Garmin devices?

I'm eyeballing the Garmin Cirqa, but I was also thinking of taking it off during bike rides or swims, using it more as a passive tracker, but using my "real" sports related devices for recording activities. It would be a bummer buying a Cirqa but still having incomplete data.

Possible Technical Issue Fenix 8 on software 22.38 is extremely laggy, crashing, and rebooting — should I return it?

I bought a Garmin Fenix 8 a few days ago, and the experience has been extremely disappointing so far.

I updated it to software version 22.38 immediately after the initial setup. Since then, the watch has been very laggy, buggy, and unstable. It has rebooted by itself several times, and the problem now seems to be getting worse.

When I scroll through glances, the interface sometimes crashes and sends me straight back to the watch face. The same thing happens when scrolling through the apps menu. General navigation also feels slow and unresponsive.

I previously owned a Forerunner 265, and it was noticeably smoother and more reliable than this Fenix 8, which is difficult to accept considering the price difference.

I spent around two hours with Garmin chat support and tried several different troubleshooting steps, but nothing helped. I also uninstalled all of my Connect IQ apps to rule out third-party software, but the crashes and lag are still happening.

Is anyone else experiencing this on version 22.38? Is Garmin aware of it, and has there been any indication that a fix is coming soon?

At this point, I am seriously considering returning the watch. This level of instability is not acceptable for a device that costs around €1,000.

Watch / Wearable When we end sleep mode in the morning, can we PLEASE stop having it automatically reenter sleep mode a few minutes later?

This has even happened to me during GPS activities where I got up at 12AM to summit Whitney and had to fight my watch from entering sleeping mode every few minutes.

Garmin Coach / DSW / Training Help me

I just started running again, i used to do track in highschool but that was 5 years ago. I live in Las Vegas,, so I know the heat can affect my heart rate. I’m just a little confused because I’m trying to run in Zone 2 and keep my heart rate in the 140–150 bpm range, but even when I run 2 miles at a 13–14 minute pace, my heart rate still reaches 170–182 bpm. Do I need to slow down even more? At that point, I feel like I’m basically walking. Do I need to be running at a 15-17 min pace, is that even a thing. Bc my garmin watch says all my runs are high intensity runs in zone 4 or 5.

Watch / Wearable What time will the Garmin CIRQA be available to order in Europe?

Garmin says the CIRQA will be available to order from July 24 in Europe. Does that normally mean it will go live at 00:00 CEST, or does Garmin usually open orders later in the day based on US time? Has anyone experienced a similar Garmin launch before?

Cirqa Cirqa during the night, Fenix8 during the day

Hey guys, love my fenix8 and been wearing it daily ever since I got it. My only problem is: I hate how bulky it is while sleeping and end up putting it on my nightstand, not tracking any vital data during the night.
I’ve had a whoop in the past which didn’t bother me with its slim form factor. Now with cirqa I’m considering getting it, to get sleep data and using the fenix8 during the day and my workouts.

Anyone know if data would sync up nicely and whether that would be a supported use case?

Possible Technical Issue Edge 830 acting strangely

Post image
4 Upvotes

I have an Edge 830 I've been using without issues for a number of years. In the past two weeks, it's frozen mid-ride and reset itself twice: the first was about two weeks ago, the second time was last night. It has picked up right where it left off post-reset both times so I didn't appear to lose any data. The first time it happened it also told me that my w/kg had an increase at the end of my ride....to 9.4. Which is laughable at best.

Also last night, I got caught in a rain storm on the way home from a group ride. I locked my screen to prevent unwanted inputs. However, it decided to trigger "Assistance Required" notifications about a dozen separate times. I kept cancelling them, and turned off the crash detection function when I got home.

I'm starting to think this thing is on it's way out. Has anyone else had odd experiences preceding the death of, or complete breakdown of their Edge computer? Have you successfully fixed yours? What worked? (aside from just buying something new or different).

Non Product Specific Garmin Question Alternative exercises in strength training workouts?

New Garmin user (Vivoactive 6) and new gym goer here. I'm working with a trainer to put together an exercise list for a fullbody workout so I can do everything myself eventually. He's been focusing on alternative exercises, both to keep it interesting and to provide options when the relevant gym equipment is not available.

How do I put this into a workout in the Connect app? I've configured my first workout when it was still just 1 exercise per "body part" (don't know what you would call that), but it's at least 3 each now and I'm not seeing any options to log alternatives per exercise in the app.

I like the workout system because I don't have to keep track of rest time in between sets and in between exercises. It keeps me off my phone and focused while in the gym. Just don't know how to add alternatives without creating a workout for every combination of things/one "generic" workout with full paragraphs in the notes for each option.

TIA for any help!

Discussion Garmin forerunner 970 treadmill pace way off

I got a Garmin forerunner 970 (Apple Watch series 9 before) and the treadmill run pace seems pretty off.

On treadmill I set a 8m 20sec km pace.
During the run the watch was reporting extremely inaccurate pace. Range 7m to 7m 40s. The best I saw it was ~7m 50s

Note I was running the entire time.

The distance was also off by nearly +.5km.

After calibration stats
3.13km 24m 55s for average pace 7m 47s

But according to math it’s 7m 58s

(24x60)+55 =1,495
1,495/3.13=477.636
477.36/60=7.956
60*.956=57.36
7min 58s

Why is it so inaccurate? My Apple Watch was pretty much on par with treadmill. I only wore my Garmin, so I’ll repeat the run with both watches next time

Which Watch To Get? Moving to Garmin from Apple Watch

Good afternoon all, looking for a bit of advice!

Over the past few years I've become increasingly fed up with Apple Watches. I've gradually upgraded through the range and currently have an Apple Watch Ultra 2, but even that has started to lose its appeal. My biggest frustration is the battery life. Despite being Apple's premium watch, I'm still charging it far more often than I'd like.

It's got to the point where I've been considering giving up on smartwatches altogether. which is mad as I've worn some form of smartwatch since the early days of the Moto 360, but because of my experience with Apple, I've been debating whether to get a Whoop or Fitbit for fitness tracking and then just wear a traditional watch.

Though a few people around me wear Garmins and have been encouraging me to make the switch. I'm always doing some sort of fitness activity, whether that's gym sessions, hiking, or wild camping, so Garmin seems like it could be a good fit.

With that in mind, I was pretty close to pulling the trigger on an Epix Pro Gen 2 Sapphire. The price and feature set seem ideal for what I want. However, I've recently seen Garmin are releasing what I can imagine YouTube tech influencers are calling a "Whoop killer", and that's got me reconsidering the whole fitness band + watch combination again.

So I'd love to hear from people who have maybe made a similar switch from Apple, or from those who own an Epix Pro Gen 2.

  • Would you still buy the Epix Pro Gen 2 today?
  • Is Garmin's new fitness band worth waiting for?
  • If you were in my position, would you go for a Garmin watch, a fitness band + traditional watch, or something else entirely?

Cheers in advance for any advice!

Possible Technical Issue Missed Call / Incoming Call issue (Venu 4)

I own Venu 4 41mm for a few months now and I am pretty satisfied how it works.

But for some reason, the incoming calls just do not work properly no matter what the settings are. I only get Missed Call's vibration notification on my watch after the caller has already hung up.

It is really annoying, I didn't have this issue with my previous Mi Band 6 at all.

Here is my setup:

  • Garmin Venu 4 41mm @ 17.37
  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G NE 8GB @ Android 14 / HyperOS 2.0.8.0
  • Garmin Connect 5.27

(but even the earlier versions of Garmin software had the same issue)

Things I've tried:

  1. Giving absolutely all App & Other permissions to Garmin Connect
  2. Setting "No restrictions" to Battery saver for Garmin Connect
  3. Keeping Garmin Connect app open at all times (in Recents), "locking" it and clearing all other apps
  4. Unpairing the watch from Bluetooth settings and re-pairing it again via the Garmin Connect app
  5. Adding Garmin Connect to Backround Autostart in HyperOS Settings
  6. Downgrading to Garmin Connect v5.15.2 (reportedly the last version working properly), but it doesn't have Venu 4 support
  7. Using exclusively Google Phone app & keeping it up-to-date

The phone and the watch are actually connected, I can use Find My Phone feature at any time, so the watch->phone link works fine.

However, incoming calls only trigger if I am actively using my phone or stopped using it recently. After a certain period of time (say 10+ mins) of inactivity, it stops working, almost as if Garmin Connect / HyperOS is killing phone->watch connection in the background.

Anyone else with this issue?

Which Watch To Get? Basic but modern sensor?

Hi,
My Fenix 6pro died (start stop button blocked) so I am wondering how to replace it.
Use it only during activities, so I do not need to monitor sleep and have training plans nor battery recovery info.
Will use to track backcountry ski, run, open water swims. So I need accurate gps and altimeter.
I understand I do not need a Fenix, a forerunner might suffice?

I am confused with all the available models.
Which are the models with the modern and reliable and accurate GPS and hr monitor?
Thanks in advance

Discussion Zone 2???

I’m a VERY new runner. I just finished a super easy run trying to keep my HR under 155-160 (2.1 mi/31:50). I literally couldn’t go slower. My average HR was 165, I walked when it went over 170, breathed almost entirely through my nose, and I could hold a conversation the whole time. Sounds like Zone 2 to me right??

I’m gonna blame this on my Garmin watch for not knowing my physiology, but it thinks my Zone 2 HR is 120-139. That’s a WALK for me sometimes. I have lower BP than average and my resisting HR is about 50, but when I’m up and moving around it’s ~90-110.

If anyone has any input or feedback. Let me know! But for now, I’m finished focusing on “Zone” runs.
