I’m rewatching GOT and it’s actually so funny how the Lannisters are treating Joffrey as the little kid he is. Tyrion making constant threats to him, his grandfather literally sending him to bed and being super sarcastic about it, and his mother rolling her eyes internally 🤭

If he wasn’t so evil, Joffrey would’ve been tragic.

Prior to the events of the show, anyway, they mentioned that the wall has been there for thousands of years and they never even had to bolt the doors -- so I assume not much action and danger was happening at all. The Night's Watch members would get shelter, food and were basically well protected from outside danger and wars. They didn't have to do actual work other than the necessary to keep themselves going and do guard shifts on the top of the wall. They would get clothes, weapons and time to practice freely.

The only downside really was that they could not leave (but then again, did they need to?) and even if they did - the lord commanders knew about it and looked the other way regardless, so members of the Watch weren't deprived of human interaction and intercourse either either. You'd have to try to fit in with criminals and thieves, but many were not even criminals to begin with -- so you could definitely find your people. It seems that within their small world at The Wall, they had much better structure, rules and enforced discipline than you'd find on the streets.

If we compare this to living in any other kingdom as a commoner, it sounds like a much better life to be honest lol.

I'm talking character deaths that you'll never get over, plot directions that you hated, something that is just the worst thing ever about the show to you. To me, I think it was the fact that the onion night didn't get to kill the red witch. His heart break over knowing the girl he considered basically his daughter had died so horribly because of her, and then he didn't even really get any justice, stays making me mad as hell and I think about it often.

The Red Wedding is up next on the rewatch so I’ve seen everything of Robb there is to see. Like Theon, it’s tough being a young guy having to make really serious decisions all of a sudden out of nowhere. Robb was young and dumb, sadly.

How on earth does he leave Jamie Lannister so unattended? He’s the most valuable prisoner in Westeros. Huge fail.

Getting married took his focus off the war. It was a selfish choice and it cost everyone.

Getting married was a huge mistake and there’s no way a son raised by Ned Stark would break a vow and dishonor his house, name, and word. Robb had too much naivety, he was too young and over confident.

Im looking for a present for my gf, she absolutely loves Game of Thrones, and we’re currently watching House of the Dragon together. I’m not really into the franchise, but ik she’s read all the books and is now finishing the TV series.
I’d like to get her a gift related to the series—something that would actually mean something to a Game of Thrones fan. As far as I know, she only has the standard editions of the books, not any special or collector’s editions. And when it comes to figures or collectibles, we don’t have any displayed at home, so I’d rather avoid those.

In GOT, when the Maester is testing Bran about the Houses of Westeros, their lords, and their sigils, Bran says that the Baratheons sigil is ‘a crowned stag, now that Robert is king’ - however, I’m reading Fire and Blood for the first time, and it says that when Orys Baratheon takes Storms End, the ‘crowned stag became his sigil.’

Basically, I am taking Brans statement to mean that when a house becomes King, their sigil takes a crown or some royal symbol to reinforce this.

So, is this a mistake on the showrunners behalf, or am I just wrongly interpreting Brans statement and he’s said something entirely different.

*I didn’t rewatch the scene I’m referring to either, so I could literally be spouting nonsense right now.

No surprise - it was amazing! Even with my high expectations, I was totally immersed and entertained. I definitely benefitted from watching the whole series over the course of eight months - it was super satisfying to go from a season finale to a premiere the next night. I’d heard the finale was disappointing for the past seven years - it wasn’t that satisfying, but I didn’t hate it. And the final season was rushed but cinematically stunning. The acting and writing of the first six seasons were nearly flawless. I’ll miss these characters and this world, but…on to House of the Dragon!

I was too young to watch Game of Thrones when it first came out. Now, I have completed watching the series including the first season of “A Night of the Seven Kingdoms.” I’m barely on the first season of “House of the Dragon” series but I can’t get enough of it! I want to get into reading ALL the books including spin offs. Which path do you recommend: the chronological order (in-Universe timeline) or publication order?

Also, should I stick with the original books or start with the illustrated historical editions?

The Dorthraki are terrifying, yes. Especially against levies and other more easily routed and less armored forces. But they are entirely unarmored cavalry. There are ways to deal with that, even in an open field!

He had years to prepare, had the home turf advantage, had tons of money, had access to magic within his kingdom and magic items like that green fire stuff being made in his keep.

In reality, a bunch of pikes, archers and fighting on rocky terrain would remove most of the dorthraki advantage. Could have dug small trenches too, that would have broke a calvary charge.

She hates her. She doesn't trust her. She's afraid that she's the one that the witch predicted would replace her. "Someone younger and more beautiful to cast you down and take all that you hold dear"

Its not like Cersei didn't actively dislike her and mistrust her before that. She's hated margery since she met her. When she's talking to Joffrey when he's trying on clothes she's trying to tell him to ask himself why she does what she does. Dote on filthy urchins, dress like a harlot. Theres also the time cersei told Margery the story about the rains of castamere. She saw how margery manipulated Joffrey. And she was the only one who could

But then cersei not only approaches margery herself but she talks to tywin about it too. And then she spends most of season 5 and all of season 6 trying to destroy her. Wtf is going on in that women's head?;

This show(world) leaves me with a lot of questions. But this one decision always annoyed me more than a fictional decisions should.

But returning to the point, I always thought this was an interesting conversation between the brothers in Tyrion's cell, but I've never really been able to explain (to myself) what purpose it served. In real life, people will talk about nothing just to fill the silence, but in well-written television, Everything Always Means Something. Any theories about the subtext here?

Such a stand out episode out of season 1, after starting to rewatch since covid. Such characteristic of the dialogue between the scenes is powerful. (Don't mean to fill the subreddit if this isn't allowed to speak as such) I suggest you rewatch this specific episode it's awesome.

I'm a big fan of both got and hotd and I'm trying to get into the books as well. I bought the mass market paperback set with the latest artwork but was massively disappointed as halfway through the first book, pages started falling off, which felt terrible considering how careful I try to be with books.

But I guess that's on me, mass market paperbacks tend to have poorly glued spines.

Now I'm trying to to decide if I should go for the regular paperback set with the new covers or just buy the old hardcovers (with the art in the photo).

I'm asking for advice as I've seen mixed reviews for both.

Any advice is appreciated.
