Now yes its not perfect but in my opinion it wasnt all that bad and I personally liked the ending. I wont go into much detail as no one wants to read 5 paragraphs on a random reddit post but I would be glad to hear anyone out in the comments and discuss different oppinions.

I was rewatching GOT (Hodor episode) and I realized what is missing in HOTD. It’s the magic.

1. Magic of children of men
2. Red woman
3. Night walkers and night animals
4. Pyat pree- warlock that kidnaps the dragons
5. Giants
6. Faceless men
7. Stairs as Wargs (more stated in the books)
8. Lady stonehart

There was this suspense that anything unusual could happen. They didn’t rely solely on dragons for the magic. There is a tiny bit of prophesy. I’m not sure if the books had more magic.

Thoughts?

But returning to the point, I always thought this was an interesting conversation between the brothers in Tyrion's cell, but I've never really been able to explain (to myself) what purpose it served. In real life, people will talk about nothing just to fill the silence, but in well-written television, Everything Always Means Something. Any theories about the subtext here?

I’m on season 2.

First she said she would burn the city of the people who she needs help from or else she would die and some how the richest man let her in

Then she’s going around asking for stuff and when she’s not getting it because she has no way of paying for it she starts saying she’ll burn them and then shocked when her dragons are stolen. I haven’t finished ep 7 yet but she won’t even accept help from the only person who wants to help her

I have seen this argument being used as a defence and counter to people claiming Dany was more evil than Cersei because of what transpired in 8x05. The argument is that if Cersei had dragons, she would have caused far more destruction than Dany.

I don't know if i agree with this. I feel Cersei would use the dragons to attack military targets which would have indirect civilian deaths, which she wouldn't care about...But that isn't unlike most other dragon riders in history

On the orher hand, what Dany did was unprecedented and, quite frankly, insane.

Thoughts?

It would have been a cool arc to see Jaime travel to Dorne in disguise to learn a more fluid style of fighting like Water dancing.

It could’ve culminated in him riding to protect his brother Tyrion rather than Cersei the one who pushed him to do countless evils.

We see Duncan learn to sword fight and win against Aerion after only having basic ring training.

It’s annoying we seldom saw his metal hand in action either, he could’ve done the ultimate pimp slap on an approaching white walker before kicking back toward to Brienne so she can lop its head off.

Why are people defending her killing Danys baby and sterelizing her but don't do the same about blood & cheese?

In both cases there was something really bad happening (Mirri being SAd // Aemond killing Lucerys), there are people craving revenge (Mirri // Daemon) and in the end harmless children or babys are hurt & get killed (Dany & Rhaego // Jaehaerys), even though they had absolutely nothing to do with what happend.

I really don't get it...

I was too young to watch Game of Thrones when it first came out. Now, I have completed watching the series including the first season of “A Night of the Seven Kingdoms.” I’m barely on the first season of “House of the Dragon” series but I can’t get enough of it! I want to get into reading ALL the books including spin offs. Which path do you recommend: the chronological order (in-Universe timeline) or publication order?

Also, should I stick with the original books or start with the illustrated historical editions?

It can jump off right after season 8 and have it about the Westeros post long night. The best part is it wouldn’t be based on on of the books so the fans that always complain about book accuracy won’t have any source material to compare it to and the writers can make something completely new.

While the Valyrians were still in their infancy, the Old Ghis empire was still at the height of its power, correct?

Around that time, Yi Ti would've also been the strongest empire around, correct?

Were they at war with one another? Did they interact or contest territories? What was the dynamic like between Old Ghis and Yi Ti?

Prior to the events of the show, anyway, they mentioned that the wall has been there for thousands of years and they never even had to bolt the doors -- so I assume not much action and danger was happening at all. The Night's Watch members would get shelter, food and were basically well protected from outside danger and wars. They didn't have to do actual work other than the necessary to keep themselves going and do guard shifts on the top of the wall. They would get clothes, weapons and time to practice freely.

The only downside really was that they could not leave (but then again, did they need to?) and even if they did - the lord commanders knew about it and looked the other way regardless, so members of the Watch weren't deprived of human interaction and intercourse either either. You'd have to try to fit in with criminals and thieves, but many were not even criminals to begin with -- so you could definitely find your people. It seems that within their small world at The Wall, they had much better structure, rules and enforced discipline than you'd find on the streets.

If we compare this to living in any other kingdom as a commoner, it sounds like a much better life to be honest lol.

I'm a big fan of both got and hotd and I'm trying to get into the books as well. I bought the mass market paperback set with the latest artwork but was massively disappointed as halfway through the first book, pages started falling off, which felt terrible considering how careful I try to be with books.

But I guess that's on me, mass market paperbacks tend to have poorly glued spines.

Now I'm trying to to decide if I should go for the regular paperback set with the new covers or just buy the old hardcovers (with the art in the photo).

I'm asking for advice as I've seen mixed reviews for both.

Any advice is appreciated.

Out of all the scenes in the later seasons not taken from the books, I think Olenna's death was by far one of the best moments. Her savage mic-drop reveal that she was behind Joffrey's murder, paired with Jaimie's reaction of mixed anger and shock is so well done. It's one of my favorite death scenes in recent media, a prime example of going down with the last laugh.

War comes at a major cost, both in human life and resources. Why would anyone needlessly launch themselves into war?
