When I first started learning drums, my uncle, who is an awesome drummer, as one of the first things he tried to teach me was keeping the left leg (only the heel, not opening or closing the hi hat) bouncing in quarters.

I find this as an amazing skill, when he tried to show me my leg kept shaking and tensing up, and I just gave up on it, never got to it.

I don't really struggle with keeping time or anything, but how do I actually get to mastering that leg movement? Any tips or exercises? Is it necessary? I'm definitely willing to spent time on it

And besides the rust, the previous owner sprayed WD-40 on everything, it's super sticky.

I played drums consistently throughout my childhood into early 20s and then practically stopped altogether by 23ish.  i switched to different instruments and outside of the occasional fill in gig, I lost all desire to play drums and last time I played a gig as a drummer  was 10 years ago.

Sold my drums eventually and no longer claimed to be a “drummer” and was real self conscious anytime I sat behind a kit with how clumsy and foreign it felt. 

Joined this side project on a whim a couple months ago and after a month of sourcing new (used) gear and another month of trying to remember how to make it all work, had my First show back last Saturday and had a blast.

John Bonham

The first drummer I heard as a kid that gave me a double take and blew my mind in a way that made me want to start drumming. His work with Led Zeppelin is considered among many, including myself to be of the most influential in rock drumming.

Buddy Rich

I first heard Buddy Rich in 2005 when I started attending Music School. My jaw was on the floor and I didn’t know these things were possible on the instrument. Buddy Rich is hands down the gold standard on speed, control, creativity, power and finesse in jazz drumming. The GOAT

Steve Gadd

Steve Gadd is a drummer that I had probably heard many times on many different songs in the past but didn’t know who he was until I was taught. His work with Paul Simon, Steely Dan and many others is legendary. His pocket, groove and application of rudimental drumming on the kit is what I aspire to sound like in my drumming today.

Jon Theodore

I wanted to choose a more modern drummer for my final spot. Jon Theodore’s drumming on the first couple Mars Volta albums is my absolute favorite work of all time. His blend of progressive rock and punk fused with Latin rhythms and his creative use of rudimental patterns for grooves is my favorite thing to listen to as a drummer and what makes me the most excited to get on a kit and start creating. These are the attributes that many people have described as my style of drumming.

I just sold a GPU so I was browsing FB Marketplace, Sunday morning, for a guitar amp I could connect to my PC for writing and just popped up. I'm on Marketplace all the time and never saw it before. A 2006-2007 Copper Mist Metallic Tama Superstar. Shells and snare for $400! It's as clean as it looks. I'd did a little deep cleaning around the lugs and such when I swapped out the heads but it was pretty pristine.

When I picked it I was shooting the shite with the seller about lesser kits I see on FB for more money. He said he was often surprised by what sells and what sits around. He sells quite a bit of kit.

I recently found a fiberglass tom for 20$ it was a steal itself but I was sure it was 13 inch, It’s 14 I didn’t even know these existed at all.

Any suggestions at all really I’m still relatively new to drumming and I’ve always had trouble setting up my kit (ignore the thrown lol)

Really considering going back to a chain drive pedal and noticed for the same price I could get a new IC 600 or a used IC 900. I understand the 900 has more "features", but what would you all get of you me?

And just to throw a wrench into it all, I could get a new pearl Eliminator Solo (black cam) for cheaper than either IC.

Morning folks,

So, I had a motorbike accident a few years ago, prior to which I played in college and a bit outside of it. Not incredible but proficient at best.

The accident included a good bonk on the head and some nerve damage. Oddly enough one of the side effects of this was the ability to not be able to keep time or recognise tone.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to learn time keeping again? I've tried to practice with a metronome, drumming into a pillow but, I've hit a wall with it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can someone explain how the heck these old tom holder work? I just got this vintage 50’s Broadkaster and I can’t seem to use the tom holder unless I scoot it all the way to the left side. I’ve seen fotos of toms much closer to the center (by the badge) but as you see in the foto there’s not enough of a gap to do so…

I really do not want to use a 2nd snare stand.

I'm looking for some recommendations on where to start for some drumming education videos/reading for intermediate level drummers (I think I'm intermediate idk judge the video).

I don't have any official drum experience like band or a teacher, l've just been fooling around with them since a young age and have always been pretty good with tempo, and I just got into it about 2 weeks ago. I know most of the basic concepts like 4/4, notes, and the like, but I am looking to broaden my horizons and learn more of the "technical" aspects I guess.

Please let me know any suggestions, all is appreciated. (Also how does the video look?
Technique, timing, etc)

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to start giving drum lessons out of my house. I'm trying to figure out the ideal setup for the kit I'll be giving the lessons on, balancing being able to speak and hear the student talking, vs having them learn on a set with real sound and feel.

I remember using a kit with mesh heads and rubber-mat-muted cymbals at my (phenomenal!) drum teacher's place, but can't imagine that until I got my first set , I wasn't shown what real drums sound and feel like.

Was thinking of setting up with real heads etc but using mute pads, but am worried about the student practicing without the real feel/ bounce of a drumhead. Any advice would be great!

So I've had to switch my kit to mesh heads to make it silent as I got complaints from neighbours. Is this an ok setup? I just worry that it'll be harder to actually improve
