If i put silent heads on my drums, used silent cymbals, and put it on a riser. Would I still be a nuisance for neighbors? Are there more ways to make it all more quiet? I have not been able to play my drums for years due to space but am finally looking to move soon. Is it feasible to drum in an apartment?

I'm looking for some recommendations on where to start for some drumming education videos/reading for intermediate level drummers (I think I'm intermediate idk judge the video).

I don't have any official drum experience like band or a teacher, l've just been fooling around with them since a young age and have always been pretty good with tempo, and I just got into it about 2 weeks ago. I know most of the basic concepts like 4/4, notes, and the like, but I am looking to broaden my horizons and learn more of the "technical" aspects I guess.

Please let me know any suggestions, all is appreciated. (Also how does the video look?
Technique, timing, etc)

So about 3 months ago I posted a video wanting feedback for my pedal work. Got lots of useful advice, along with starting actual drum lessons 2 months ago. I’ve changed a lot, I set my beaters back and tightened the springs. Also I’ve been trying to work on heel down and having my foot placed lower on the pedals. How am I doing?
Just a note, I’ve been playing for about a year and a third or so.

First of all I wanna say thank you to all of you who left comments on my last post. I am so grateful that lots of kind people help me here and share the learning experience with me which makes my journey much more interesting.

Actually I kind of learn to play drums at not young age and so far I don’t have any musician or drummer friends.So I come to here and share my learning journey to the people all around the world. It’s amazing.

Tonight I went to the training institutions tonight and practiced Yellow for 1.5 hours. I kept making mistakes :

1.my sticks fall out for several times

2.sometimes I hit air haha(I have to hit the crash or others but I lost)

3.I couldn’t play the whole songs.very easy to play wrong beat.

4.I feel like very easy to get tired 😪

If you have any suggestions for me please let me know!thank you so much !

John Bonham

The first drummer I heard as a kid that gave me a double take and blew my mind in a way that made me want to start drumming. His work with Led Zeppelin is considered among many, including myself to be of the most influential in rock drumming.

Buddy Rich

I first heard Buddy Rich in 2005 when I started attending Music School. My jaw was on the floor and I didn’t know these things were possible on the instrument. Buddy Rich is hands down the gold standard on speed, control, creativity, power and finesse in jazz drumming. The GOAT

Steve Gadd

Steve Gadd is a drummer that I had probably heard many times on many different songs in the past but didn’t know who he was until I was taught. His work with Paul Simon, Steely Dan and many others is legendary. His pocket, groove and application of rudimental drumming on the kit is what I aspire to sound like in my drumming today.

Jon Theodore

I wanted to choose a more modern drummer for my final spot. Jon Theodore’s drumming on the first couple Mars Volta albums is my absolute favorite work of all time. His blend of progressive rock and punk fused with Latin rhythms and his creative use of rudimental patterns for grooves is my favorite thing to listen to as a drummer and what makes me the most excited to get on a kit and start creating. These are the attributes that many people have described as my style of drumming.

If this isn’t welcome, you are free to delete it, but there is a drummer, great studio drummer and instructor, who is at risk of losing his Achilles tendon. This is how he makes a living. If you are able to spread the word or donate, it is very much appreciated.

So I've had to switch my kit to mesh heads to make it silent as I got complaints from neighbours. Is this an ok setup? I just worry that it'll be harder to actually improve

Any suggestions at all really I’m still relatively new to drumming and I’ve always had trouble setting up my kit (ignore the thrown lol)

I use 3 different vintage b8 pro 20” rides and 14” b8 pro hats at the moment. It sounds amazing for this one band im in but for literally every other band im rightfully given side eye lmao so I gotta get some less insane sounding cymbals. Loving the hats and ride specifically on this album, the crash is nice too! I was hoping someone here could recognize what they might be, ballpark. i find when i go to try out cymbals in person i get option paralysis and cant decide but i KNOW this sounds fire. It’s also how it’s mixed i know but indulge me on this one guys. Thanks!

I played drums consistently throughout my childhood into early 20s and then practically stopped altogether by 23ish.  i switched to different instruments and outside of the occasional fill in gig, I lost all desire to play drums and last time I played a gig as a drummer  was 10 years ago.

Sold my drums eventually and no longer claimed to be a “drummer” and was real self conscious anytime I sat behind a kit with how clumsy and foreign it felt. 

Joined this side project on a whim a couple months ago and after a month of sourcing new (used) gear and another month of trying to remember how to make it all work, had my First show back last Saturday and had a blast. 

The school I teach has this Ludwig hihat stand and the tension is way too high. I have tried everything I can think of to adjust it. This plastic piece doesn’t lift up and the 2 rods sticking out don’t move. Does anyone else have this stand and know how to adjust it?

Bassist forgot to turn up the amp and the judge said no yelling but we made it to state 😭

I ordered 2 axis spring assemly replacement for my pedals days ago and after buying i couldn't find any estimated time for em is it like months where you forget you order em and they eventually come? Or a few weeks since i hear ordering pedals takes months but since its the entire spring assembly set up and not entire pedals it wouldn't really take long?

I wanna know other people's experience with their parts shipping time ordering from axis

Hello all!

I am a intermediate to semi advanced drummer and I have been playing on a Pearl Sessions Custom Maple kit for about 7 to 8 years and I love it to death. I use it to record every drum part I play. I will say, I havent taken the greatest care of it. The legs of the kick drum dont really stay in place anymore so it wobbles everytime I hit it, and the reso head broke and all the rods that kept it on have gone missing (probably thrown in the trash by accident). So I am thinking about selling it and replacing. For context, I am a big Jay Weinburg, Josh Dun, and Mat Nicholls fan, they all kind of got me into SJC. I have a custom acrylic set that I play live with. But I'm not a fan of the way it sounds recorded. I am looking into a Hybrid Maple SJC pathfinder kit. I am aware that they are "beginner" sets but I would love an SJC kit to record with. The higher value (tour, etc,) are out of my budget so the pathfinder is probably the one I'd aim for. I guess I'm kind of wanting feedback on whether this is a stupid idea or something I should invest in

Hi all! So I'm a software developer and guitarist and I tried building something that transcribes guitars (mainly jerry garcia solos - it was an extension of my recent grateful dead stem player that I built). However, it didn't transcribe guitars very well. I applied the same logic to drums, with some minor tweaks, and it seemed to do a much better job.

I played drums as a kid, but haven't really picked up the sticks in years, so I'm looking for some more active players to help me test my software! The beta test is free and requires no signup. The software probably isn't the best for advanced songs, so mainly looking for beginner to intermediate players who can upload a song or two that they know well or want to learn, and let me know what you think!
