I made this for about £40. The wood was cut to order and supplied with the veneer edging. The legs are for kitchen units, and they're adjustable. That makes it easy to get your turntable level (unlike my photograph).

It looks like the edges of the rubber on the woofers has wear. Looks as if some of the top layer got rubbed off? Or it's something else. Edit: It's not just wear on one spot, there's wear present on either the inner edge or outer edge of each woofer (3 woofers total).

Speaker seems to be working and sounding fine. I just wonder if it's going to last for a good amount of time. I got a different open box speaker from a different seller, to pair with this speaker, and the rubber on that one looks new, uniform, no wear.

I'm just starting out trying to get a budget audio setup going as I've started getting into vinyl. I'd mainly be using this setup to listen to music but I'd like it to have some flexibility to also be used for music streaming and CDs as well as records. I have a pretty varied musical taste so looking for something that sounds good all-around for a variety of genres.

Placement-wise this would go in a living room which would be on the larger side as it'd be an open-concept room that also includes the kitchen and dining room.

The other equipment I'd be pairing the speakers with are:

• Turntable - Insignia NS-BTST21
  
• Amp - Fosi BT20A or Marantz SR4320 (initially got the Fosi for my setup but found the Marantz at a Goodwill for $50 so now I have both as options)

Right now I have some local options I'm trying to decide between which seem like they might be pretty varied. I'm okay getting extra gear if required to get the most out of certain setups so I'm not necessarily wedded to a certain form factor or style. I'd like to keep the purchase to [$200] or less but if the value is there I could be persuaded to go up to [$300].

• Boston Acoustics VR1 - $80 (plus option to get CR8s, CR2, and CR400 for an extra $100. Wasn't planning on more than 2.0 but this would give me more options to upgrade in the future or create a setup in another room)
• Polk RTi A3 - $125
• Polk RTi A1 - $100 (includes stands)
• Polk RT55i - $150
• Wharfedale Diamond 8.3 - $140
• Polk ES15 Refurb - $199

Of these what strikes the best balance in quality/value? They all seem to be in good to great working condition. From sheer value I suspect it might be the Boston Acoustics set but I'm hoping it's strong enough quality wise.

Based on my research online these all seem like decent options but it's hard trying to figure out if anything stands out strongly from the rest since they're from different makers, from different times, and in some cases different form factors.

Hoping some folks here can help me prioritize my targets, tell me anything I should watch out when buying these models used, help me choose or tell me to keep looking or raise my budget. For instance, is it worth trying to find a deal on older KEF or B&W speakers at a higher price?

My Rythmik L12 has decided to start dying at 3.5 years of light to moderate use. I'm still in talks with the local reseller and Rythmik to see what can be done but I'm preparing for a worst case scenario. However this is a different topic for another day.

I am by no means looking down on the RSL, I know it's a damn good sub for the price, but it i don't think it's in the same category as the L12. The L12 hits single digits in my small room setup thanks to room gain.

Options are limited and expensive in my region, the L12 cost me about 1.2k usd. A SB-1000 Pro goes for about $900 or slightly less if there's a sale, but the SB 2000 Pro is a closer apples to apples comparison and it's about 1.4k usd.

I'd like the RSL 12s ($1.2k all in) but it's just too big unless I have it on it's side which is kinda odd. My options now are to buy the 10SMK2 direct from the US for about $600+ all inclusive, get the SB2000 Pro for $1.4k, or get a used and probably out of warranty SB3000 for $1k+.

What would you guys recommend? I like sub 20hz performance. Sorry for the long wall of text.

Edit : Small room and max height is ideally below 16 inch, absolute max 17 to maybe 18 inches.

Hi everyone, I just bought the ELAC DB6.3 while it was on sale. I already have a FiiO K11 DAC for my headphones, but I'm unsure what amp I need for the speakers.

My setup will be permanently connected to an LG TV for movies and music, and I'd prefer something small that fits on my desk. I've been looking at the Fosi Audio V3. Is it a good match for the ELAC DB6.3, and is it safe for the speakers? Also, can I use the FiiO K11 as the DAC with the Fosi V3 as the amp and connect everything to the TV?

The most recent addition has been the Wiim ultra. I love the room correction and that it applies to all the inputs. Spotify connect has been a game changer for me also, I don't know how I ever lived without it.

Speaker stands are also new and have made a huge difference which I can see in the graphs produced by roomfit. I'm finally able to place them further than a couple inches from the wall and they are able to be positioned further apart.

I know the sub sucks but the mediocre bass extension is appropriate for my upstairs apartment.

The Cambridge Audio speakers I've had since 2018, bought them after watching the Z Review. They are okay but I am considering an upgrade, I'm just hesitant because I don't know if the improvement would be that noticeable. I'd like to try listening to some higher end speakers sometime.

I recently swapped my stereo speakers from Monitor Audio Bronze B2 bookshelf speakers, to Boston Acoustics VR950s... Great sound, but that left my Bronze center sounding a bit hollow in comparison. Was visiting an old farmhouse and these bad boys were in the garage attached to an old Aiwa boombox. For the condition the sound quality was nothing short of impressive. Better than a lot of brand new budget stuff being sold today. Now I'm trying to decide between hunting for a sale or hunting for something vintage for a budget two-channel system.

I'm finally settled in Portugal after nearly 30 years of moving between cities and continents, and that's resulted in me being long parted from all my wonderful Pioneer, Panasonic and NAD separates I had in the 90s.

I've been getting by with headphones and bluetooth speakers, but now that I'm settled, I would like to invest a little in a home setup. I've given myself a budget of 500 euros to do this, though I could stretch a little if needed.

Some notes - the second hand scene in Portugal is pretty terrible; everyone selling something in the markets here will start from 10% off the price they paid for it 15 years ago and will then waste your time. Second hand stores similarly sell for nearly new prices. In terms of buying new, local stores tend to be on the much higher audiophile end of the market, or big box stores with mini hi-fis, so I'm largely looking at Amazon to assemble everything.

I mainly want to play CDs - plenty of electronica like Boards of Canada, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Autechre, etc, occasionally connected a bluetooth device.

It's for a living room / dining room that needs some treatment (there are curtains, soft furniture, but also hardwood floors), which is about 6m x 5m.

I've read multiple posts on here over the last few months, taking in all the advice and think that the following setup would be a good starting point, giving priority to speakers > amp > CD player.

Does this look like a decent setup? Is there something that I'm missing? Something better that I could go for?

I’m putting together my first home theater on a pretty tight budget, buying almost everything used from Facebook Marketplace. I’d love to get some opinions on whether these speakers are worth considering.
So far I’ve picked up a Klipsch R-25C center channel for a great price, and I’m still hunting for a budget-friendly AV receiver.
I’m trying to decide between these front speakers
My goal is mostly movies and TV, with some music mixed in. I know there are better speakers out there, but I’m trying to get the best performance possible while spending as little as I can.
Which of these would you choose and what is a reasonable price? Are there any other used speakers or receivers I should keep an eye out for?

Is hifi engine dead? I never had an account but was stoked to find a database of manuals in pdf form. I guess they aren't allowing new user registrations on the website and no way to contact the site admin. Does anyone know how long it has been like that or if it will ever change? There are many manuals I would like to download.

I bought 2 turntables a long time ago (15+ years or so).

The idea was to mix music but then shifted into listening only.

This is the current setup that I have:

* Turntable(s): NuMark TT-200 Direct Drive.

* Cartridge + Needle: Shure M44G

- I know this is a cartridge for mixing music rather but is what I have.

* An old Home Theater Receiver

* A 2 channel mixer from Behringer.

* 2 passive speakers.

I've been connecting the turntable to the mixer and the mixer to the Receiver that is working as an amp. I discovered I need a Phono Preamp.

I searched through the internet and there are two options that caught my attention:

* Rolls Phono Pre-amp (around 70 USD)

* WIIM Ultra (around 320 USD)

* Schiit Mani 2

I want to make sure that a phono pre-amp is what I really need before purchasing. At the moment I need to up the receiver and then use the mixer to more or less equalize the sound. It sounds way much different from what I can hear on the same album songs through the computer streaming music.

I know that a phono pre-amp will 'amplify' the sound so I don't need to crank up the volume so much on the receiver, but will it give me a better sound more in tune with the streaming platforms equalization? Or will it just amplify the sound of it? Am I expecting too much?

Also I am leaning towards the WIIM Ultra so I can connect a hard drive and listen to music and also stream from other apps but wanted to ask before purchasing anything else.

Hey I'm looking for a very snappy sub, it also shouldn't swim on longer bass periods(idk how you call it but basically when you can hear the membrane moving back and forth), wich can play on low frequency for movies and low rap bass, but I use it mainly for listening to Musik my room right now is only 9m2 but I'll get a bigger one at 25m2

I want to put it under my desk, look at the picture, and also in my living room(open in front the tv)

Ive found a deal for a five year old jl audio d110 for 650€, how good is it for what I need or should I just stick to some svs sb2000 pro or something like that, it's not about max volume or some like that just about quality and maybe it should fit to the kef ls50/ls50meta

Hi all, my wife got me a good starter vinyl player + speakers for Christmas a few years ago. I've been wanting a little bit more oomph to my set up. I don't particularly mind the speaker quality. The set up is in a small ish living room. Can I add something to my current speakers or should I just upgrade entirely? I'd be willing to spend $500-$800.
