New to audio, how’d I do?

Goodwill got me locked. $70 for the full stack and to my knowledge seems fully operational outside of the Sanyo cassette deck. Can’t test it until I find a cassette, not my preferred medium. Seems high quality but I’m not sure what to look for. Any advice or information given this pieces would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

La Scala info, please

Looking for info on this La Scala pair. Like, what is the approximate year of manufacture, is the AA designation part of the model name, and (if allowed here) what is a reasonable price range for them? Unfortunately, the serial numbers have become unreadable.

Edit: These belong to friend and are in South Florida.

(First post was removed because my “real name” account has negligible karma.)

My hi-fi stack as of 2026

Now that I have finally fixed the lights in my amp, I feel like I can at long last post a picture of my current setup. From top to bottom:

  • Kenwood KD-40R turntable
  • Kenwood KA-30 stereo integrated amp
  • Akai CS-F9 cassette deck
  • Denon DCD-755AR CD player
  • Yamaha T-560 tuner
  • Q Acoustics 1020 loudspeakers (not pictured)

Overall, I’m quite content with what I’ve got so far. I just need to swap the belts on the cassette deck as they slip in return and fast forward modes. I also want to add a MiniDisc deck to the system in the future, but I’ll have to get my hands on either a RCA switch box or a DAC first, as the amp doesn’t have any more inputs available.

Would this be dangerous to plug into a stereo receiver as a cool display?

Lenco GL75 and Emisound Octet, a vintage 1970s Hi-Fi stereo amplifier in loft

My dad went searching for an unrelated item in the attic today. Their attic is very old, dusty and just used for storage. He uses a portable floodlight to see up there.

The floodlight caught the silver of the amp and I am a retro video game collector so naturally was curious what it was.

He brought down the amp (Emisound Octet, a vintage 1970s Hi-Fi stereo amplifier and tuner unit) so I asked why he had it.

Next thing I know he brings this GL75 down!

It has definitely seen better days but if anyone has any further info that would be amazing. He said he's got some "freestanding matching wood effect vintage speakers" too and will dig them out over the weekend.

So yeah, any info on whether it's worth restoring etc would be wonderful. Thanks.

Swapped the LEDs in my Yamaha eq-32

I'm doing something custom with it since I have two Yamaha EQs, and surprisingly, I haven't seen many people swap the LEDs. So I decided to try it out, and I think it looks pretty good. The main slider LED is still red since it's a bigger LED, so I'm going to try and find one in orange. The first image is before, and the second image is after.

Is this marketplace table worth $500?

This is a Yamaha GT 750 with a Denon DL 103 MC cart. I’m pretty unfamiliar with these items, but I love the look of the table, and some quick research tells me it seems to be a well regarded table. Curious what you all think? The price seems really good to me…

Found this perfect condition complete Pioneer SE-100 + JB-100 system at Value Village for $10

I thrifted this complete Pioneer JB-100 system at Value Village for $10.

I opened it up when I got home and was shocked. The inside was completely pristine, untouched, and original. After cleaning the contacts and hooking them up to my Denon PMA-600NE, they came to life.

I was blown away by the sound. They’re incredibly clear with an open, airy presentation, excellent instrument separation, precise imaging, and a surprising amount of detail. Not bass-heavy, but they have that effortless electrostatic-like sound that I wasn’t expecting from a 50+ year-old headphone.

I can’t seem to find many recent discussions or sales of a complete working set like this.

Does anyone here know much about these? Were they considered special when they came out, and how uncommon is a complete working SE-100/JB-100 system today?

How did I do for my first hifi setup?

Just bought a pair of concept 90 b&w speakers and was given a luxman r115 receiver for free on top. Paid 200 cad for everything. Will this setup sound any good? And what is something like this setup worth?

Totally free Market Place find. Quality or nah?

Market Place find today:
-Pioneer PL-516, works, needs a new belt and hopefully that's all. came with original manual and receipt from 1978.
-Lafayette LR-3030A receiver. Did not test it yet but looks to be in absolutely mint condition . Also came with original manual and receipt from 1978. And original replacement fuses!
-a pair of Lafayette speakers that I could not find any info on. Sticker says Model 1009, 3-way speaker system. 12" woofer 5" mid 3" tweeter. I guess from the same era as the other stuff.

So obviously it's some kind of find since it's all free, but do I have some quality here?

No audio through right channel Phono Input SONY DA2400ES Receiver

When connected to a turntable through the PHONO input, it’s consistently only the left channel which works, with the right remaining completely silent.

This isn’t a speaker problem as I have switched them around or a turntable problem as the receiver has had identical issues across 2 different turntables.

Using a HDMI input from my PC, both speakers work perfectly fine, same goes for an optical input from my TV.

Any tips on where I should start debugging?

Thanks!

Zenith stereo

I purchased this zenith stereo I have been looking for for months yesterday and was wondering if someone knew the exact year it may be from? The turntable also does move when I bump into it and stuff like that, I was wondering if that was normal or if I needed to have maintenance done. Thank you!!

De-sweatering

Just an update on my Yamaha CR-640. Have a thorough de-sweatering, I feel like this doesn’t look too bad and won’t require much work on my end to get this baby up and running.

Thought I would post to get the eyes some seasoned veterans of the vintage audio world to see if I may have missed anything.

Hi there! Looking for a solution to attach these grilles. The grille holes seem to be about 1/2 inch, the speaker holes about 3/8. Any advice would be much appreciated! Amazon listings don’t seem to provide exact measurements or info about compatibility. Thanks!
