Meta Don't get banned: Using "Redact" scrambling software is prohibited in r/blenderhelp!

We observed an increase of people using "Redact" lately.

This privacy tool replaces messages with nonsense and makes formerly helpful comments unreadable after a while. It takes a long time to find and remove posts like that for us and even when we do, the comments that solved problems will be lost. This tool contradicts the purpose of our sub in general (to create coherent, helpful posts where solutions stay available so other can look them up). That is why we created a new Rule against it. That means users can file reports should they observe scrambled messages like that.

Accounts using Redact will be permanently banned from r/blenderhelp. If you want to use Redact, please make sure to exclude r/blenderhelp to avoid being banned.

Meta PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING QUESTIONS!

Looking for quick and helpful answers? Follow these rules and make helping you as easy as possible!

  • Title: Choose a meaningful title concerning your problem.
  • Text: Describing your problem with enough detail is essential. Please realize that helpers are not familiar with your project. Provide all relevant information, so others can immideately understand what you are struggling with.

Example: Say, you have a problem with lots of identical objects in your scene: Let us know whether you created these copies by hand, used the Particle System or Geometry Nodes.

  • Images/Videos: When posting screenshots, show us your full blender window (not cropped, no monitor photos). This will make lots of helpful information available to helpers at first sight that may seem irrelevant to you (For example your Blender version). If you add video links, please consider adding time stamp info to the part you want helpers to see.

You can upload images and short video clips (up to 60s) to imgur.com and post the links in your question or as comment.

  • *.blend files: Don’t add links to your *.blend files when posting questions right away. Helpers will ask you for it if they need to take a look. Most people prefer reading a good description and looking at images to see what your post is about.
  • 'Solved' flair: Once your question was answered, please remember to change the flair of your post to “Solved”, so helpers don’t have to read into your question just to see it has already been answered.

You can change the flair by clicking on the small icon below your post resembling a label.

EDIT: You can also include "!solved" in the comments to have Automod change the flair for you.

Be nice and respectful with each other :)

Unsolved How can I rig a 2.5D face in this way?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, I've been working on a 2.5D face for my models and I couldn't find a tutorial for the rigging method used in this video. I already have setup of a face that uses a shrink wrapped planes but I honestly have zero idea on how to rig it to behave similarly to the example in the video.

Solved Best way to join these two meshes for rigging?

I am working on a simple Lego figure that I eventually want to rig. However, I am stuck on how to connect these two shapes together.

I also need to connect the torso to the legs later on, but since that is a similar shape/problem, solving this first issue will probably help me fix that too.

How do I merge these parts while keeping the topology clean? Do they absolutely need to be joined into a single mesh for a proper rig, or is there a better way?

(the last picture is my reference)

Note : I'm not a complete beginner, but definitely still learning.

Solved How can I make PS2 styled models like these im Blender?

Edit: Solved. I found a working tutorial series that is helpful and enough resources and tips

Is there a TUTORIAL OR ONLINE LESSON THAT CAN HELP ME OUT?

I am an absolute beginner.

I have tried this program multiple times and seemed to fuck it up multiple times.

I tried looking up blender PS2 character model tutorials online and stuff and every time I found one it was either too complex/not the style I wanted or someone telling me to make a reference sheet before working on my models (I can not draw and one look at my post history will make you understand the toxic relationship I have with art)

I do not understand topology and I feel like this is just as hard as any other program I've ever used.

I am incaoable of making anything and feel like I'm a charity case compared to all the people around me or in this sub.

I do not have the money to commission or buy paid courses and I just wanna make and rig and animate character models for my game.

I am probably to stupid to find something or figure this out on my own this out so I need your help.

where the fuck do I even begin? I don't wanna make photorealism, corporate looking 3D models or high poly models I'll never use in a game due to optimization.

Solved How Do I Stop One Rig From Controlling Another. Rigify Blender 5.1

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Creating a project in which i have two characters rigged using rigify. Both characters have their own rigify rigs created however one rig is controlling the other rig? During the creation of the models I duplicated the torsos to save on modelling time and I believe this to be the cause of the issue but haven't found a way to fix it.

So far I have tried deleting duplicate weight paint groups and also just deleting both rig set ups and starting over but each time this problem persists. I've made quite a few projects now without this problem so I'm at a loss for what might be happening here.

Unsolved Issue: setting up the Cycles renderer

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I have a quick question about optimizing render times in Cycles. I'm working on a detailed interior room scene. It features glass with realistic reflections and volumetric fog to create those nice light rays coming through the room.

Right now, I'm trying to get my render times down to about 30 seconds to a minute per frame (ideally even less) without taking a massive hit in quality. I want to keep the final output looking sharp and clean.

What are the best settings or tricks to achieve this? I've attached screenshots of my current render and render settings below for reference. Thanks in advance!

So, the problem is that im trying to redirect this one edge loop so that it is quads only, but by myself i only end up with triangles.

I AM using a subd(1), and its visible when you apply it, so how can i fix this so that it goes clean(QUADS ONLY) from 3 to 2?

Solved Cycles rendering hair cards weirdly

For some reason, cycles is handling my transparent hair cards weirdly, creating a black-hole effect. I've tried changing light bounce settings, but that's changed nothing. I'm really just confused. The individual hair cards seem to be rendering normally, but together they break

Unsolved How to put a repeating 2d pattern on a 3d object?

Upvotes

I want to put a hexagon pattern on my Car for design purposes. The car is only 1 Object (I found it Online) and it has a UV where the parts arent really conected. (See Images) I want the hexagons to contunue over the gaps like they arent there.

UV Map
The Model
How it shouldnt look
Pattern (Gaps transparent)

Thx allready, :)

Extra: I allready tried to use chat as help but it didnt work. Tried a lot in shading Tab. I had Mapping, Sepperate and Combine XYZ, and texture coordinates in and played around with it. Chat told me to try Generated, And Object which both had the effect of creating weird shapes on the side and lines from front to back on the top. And UV which just put me back to the original in the image. Combine and Seperate XYZ had no real changes for me.

TLDR: I want the bones to align and bend against the floor so I don't have to manually make sure they're in place while animating. Nothing I've tried has worked

I'm trying to model this circular window on a door. I'd like to approach it bit more cleanly and do it right instead of just using loopcuts going around the entire object. Is this the correct way to go about it?

Unsolved Grass effect not using hair emission.

So I found this render which had a really good looking grass/dirt texture. However i am not sure how they made it look so good at the scale of that render.

From what i can see it doesn't look like hair particle emission but still 3d.

Does anyone know how to achieve this effect.

Unsolved unlinked portion of mirrored vertices

I'm sorry if this is easily solvable and I'm just incompetent.
I somehow managed to unlink about the lower half of my model and now it ain't mirroring the model anymore. I've spent more time that I'd like to admit on this thing, so I don't want to it again <hyp>please for the love of god</hyp>
if anyone knows a way to re-link them (or as close to that as possible), I'd really appreciate it

feedback is welcome if you'd like to give me some, this is my first humanoid (basically a model where I can sculpt my actual characters out of at some point), so it'll probably not be very good, but I hope some of y'all can help point out specifically what's wrong

thanks :3

Unsolved Need Help creating a ghost model in blender

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I'm working on a horror/VFX ghost character in Blender, and I'm looking for the best workflow to create it.
The ghost is based on a realistic female body, but the entire body is covered with long, thin hair-like fibers instead of normal clothing. The hair also covers most of the face. I want the fibers to move naturally in the wind and react to animation, giving the character a cinematic, eerie look.
I've tried using Hair Curves, Geometry Nodes, and cloth simulation, but I haven't been able to achieve the result I'm looking for.
Could anyone recommend the best workflow for creating this type of character in Blender? Specifically, I'd like advice on:
How to create the long fiber dress/body.
Whether I should use Hair Curves, Geometry Nodes, particle hair, or another method.
How to make the fibers simulate realistically with wind.
How to keep the setup efficient enough for animation and rendering.
If anyone has tutorials, example files, or suggestions, I'd really appreciate your help.
Thank you!

Unsolved I Need MATERIAL HELP

Hi my name is Serbervz, I'm fairly new to rendering. So I've been cracking at this idea for about 3 hours now, and I fear that the obvious is well.. the obvious but I'm adamant that there is a work around for this, and hoping someone with more experience could help.

I have this object that I extruded and meshed from a 2d svg, and I made Curve 002 into this glass looking thing ( which I've already rendered and it looks great) I was wondering if it was possible to make both halves into different colors while still remaining glass, almost like a stained glass without the texture.

.
I am thinking about just dismantling the whole thing, and having two glass objects that I would just sandwich curve 001 with, but ultimately this would be a interesting learning opportunity I would be missing here if what I said IS possible.

.

-thx in advance Serby :)

Unsolved how can i fix my animation

https://reddit.com/link/1v3g98c/video/a27fxnd88seh1/player

why is the fold so non-linear, it curves around to the target location rather than following a linear path. I suspect it's probably an issue with applying transforms.

(also sorry for the OBS jumpscare i cant be asked to edit the video)
