Philosophy How many non bald people are here supporting the bald community?

4.0k Upvotes

Despite being a non bald person, this sub popped into my algorithm a few months ago. It’s become one of the places on Reddit I frequent most, because of how loving and supportive the bald community are. And also because guessing the meme is really fun 😂

One of the most positive places I’ve found on Reddit. I wonder how many others there are throwing support behind our bald brothers and sisters. Even though I know I’m not truly part of this community, it’s found a tender place in my heart.

Posted on here a few days ago and the support was overwhelming. Took the plunge and it feels amazing. Funny enough the only thing still bugging me was coming to work today but I tackled that head on (pun intended)

I may let the short buzz come back for a little bit but I wanted to go full smooth at first.

Thank you everyone in this subreddit for the support and encouragement!

Approached you guys while ago for council and decided to pull the trigger a couple days ago. Went with a no guard first just to test the waters and see what kind of dome I was working with and to be honest I'm not mad.

Now I'm thinking about going for the whole shebang since I've already made it this far. I just kinda want to get a little sun on the ol' scalp first so I don't blind everyone with the fresh factory finish.

Yesterday, I made a post here asking if it was time. I didn't expect to receive so many encouraging messages, thank you so much everyone 😭

I shaved a few hours later and here I am now!! It feels so weird after 25 years having hair but I think you all were right: it was time...and I think I like it!

I've been lurking for a while, I think I knew it was coming. I recently saw some pictures of myself at the beach and my son's birthday party and realized it was time. Wow. I did not realize how much of an effect this would have on my mental health. I feel lighter, more free, and more confident! This community is so amazing with all the support you give each other so y'all definitely gave me the confidence to make the change. I appreciate y'all 👊

Lost my hair two years ago. Learned how big my forehead was. Working on confidence to go out and about with no wig/scarf/hat. Taking the fastest showers ever. Enjoying the lack of razor burn.

Dear council. I got rid of my hair system and I am struggling to find myself attractive again

I used a hair system for 5+ years and it was a good companion… recently decided to move on and assume my appearance as I am with no side steps. Jumped in the cold pool but now I keep thinking on if (or how much) I lost in attraction. I need some toasting but also tips and honest opinions. I posted some before and after

Bald Picture My ex never wanted me to shave my head. After the breakup, I finally did it.

I had been struggling with a receding hairline for years.

Deep down, I already knew that shaving it off would probably be the best decision for me. But my former partner never wanted me to cut my hair short. Whenever it got even slightly too short, she reacted so strongly that I felt emotionally pressured into keeping it.

Over time, my hair became a much bigger insecurity than it probably needed to be. I constantly thought about how thin it looked, how to style it and whether other people noticed the hair loss.

We separated in July last year.

In November, the hair finally came off.

It felt strange at first, but also incredibly freeing. For the first time in years, I was no longer trying to hide something that was clearly happening anyway.

I have also lost a huge amount of weight. I went from 312.4 lbs to 193.3 lbs, a total loss of 119.1 lbs. That transformation has changed my body, my face and, more importantly, the way I see myself.

Looking back, shaving my head was not really about giving up on my hair.

It was about finally making a decision for myself.

I am still working on my confidence, but I feel much more comfortable with the bald look now than I ever did while trying to hold on to thinning hair.

Sometimes losing the hair is not the loss.

Edit:

Please dont post negative comments about my ex. thanks!

Edit2:

For the people who still think this is AI, here are the two original photos. To be fair, I find it hilarious that people genuinely think it’s AI.

AI :D

I've been fighting with hair loss for some time now due to hypogadism. We tried a hair system and trying to get everything blended and the upkeep seemed difficult. I may just cut another system and have hair when I want it with a clean shave under.

Hopefully this suits me. I'm still not sure how I feel about it.

Just to add context I also lost 115 lbs this last year and have been pursuing a bodybuilding style regimen. To try and recomposition my body. This is all very new to me.

Current weight is 200lbs

My hair was thinning to a point that I had to do it, but because I can't grow a beard at all all I legit feel I look like Matt Lucas. I'm trying to get used to it, but it's hard when legit all my friends and family are like, "Oh..... I really hope that's an ai photo of you...."

Some friends told me about this subreddit. Had a bad hairline from when I was like 20, cut it all off last year at 24. If you’re debating, I promise life is easier bald than balding!

I’ve been keeping my hair short for 10+ years, grade 1.5-2 all over usually.

Is it time to go all the way? AI generated bald photos included

Bald Picture One month in

Post image

One month in and feel ok about it. Flying out of the house in the morning is great and a real game changer. Shaving my head every 3-4 days much less great… possibly more faff than actually having hair? Currently wet shaving but may look in to getting some fancy electric razor.

Kind of a peace with how o look too now. You just have to accept you won’t look as good as you did with hair, but better than when you were balding.

Be strong boys

Gone forever

Edit: you guys are making me feel so good about this decision. Thank you so much… I went to the river after shaving it and got burnt but once that heals I’ll be taking it all the way. I’ll show my age here but the “bic” cut

Am I fooling myself that it’s not as bad as it is because I can’t see the top of my head on a regular basis?

Edit - thanks for all the quick replies!

That balding area on the crown looks like a gaping chasm to me - but apparently I’m my worst critic
