Advice/support for homeless trans woman

I hope this is okay to post!

I don’t live in Ontario anymore but have a good friend there who recently became homeless. She’s a trans woman, 33 with no income and very little savings. She is working through a lot of mental health issues and is dealing with trauma and ptsd. She’s unable to work most jobs right now. She’s essentially couch surfing but it won’t last long and the one night she spent on the street was really awful, her phone got stolen and she almost got assaulted.

She’s in Toronto now and I’m wondering if anyone knows of any supports whether they be shelters, housing, food, etc. She has a therapist through a gender clinic that has been calling different shelters but wait lists are so long. I emailed an lgbt shelter for some resources but most of them are for people under 30. If you know of any supports for a trans woman over 30 it would mean a lot. She’s obviously in a low place and I don’t really know what to do for her. I don’t want her to lose hope so soon but her situation is obviously difficult.

Thank you!

Anyone know of beginner Arabic classes for adults?

Hi! To keep this short and sweet: My boyfriend and I are looking for Arabic classes so he can learn some basics and I can get a good refresher. Does anyone know of beginner Arabic classes that are adult-friendly in Toronto or the GTA in general? Places like Markham, Richmond Hill, Stouffville, Aurora, etc. also work!

EDIT: Sorry everyone. I forgot to mention that I'm looking for closer to Lebanese Arabic, as my boyfriend knows no Arabic at all and I want him to be able to communicate with my family. Fusha is alright too if there aren't any Lebanese teachers you know of :)

Do we have any intense gyms like “diamond gym”?

Wondering if we have any intense gym with very strong culture and members holding each others accountable? Similar to the popular diamond gym in New Jersey but still safe

What to do if someone did a hit and run on your car?

Hi, I was parked at a plaza and I came back to see a scuff on my headlight… pretty bummed out what should I do? Or maybe tips for the future? If I go ask the plaza for security camera footage they would probs call cops and then the car will have an accident claim on the carfax and I don’t want that to happen.

Edit: it’s a small scratch about an inch on the headlight and it’s a german car

Looking for barbers downtown Toronto

Hi. I will be downtown Toronto tomorrow and I’m looking for a barber (male preferably).

Someone who knows their drill and really listens to your needs and has experience working with difficult hair.

Someone not that expensive.

If it’s LGBTQ+ friendly even better.

2 hours enough for YYZ international to domestic?

Hi there! Our flight booked home from Europe has been changed on us, giving us a 2 hour layover in Toronto before continuing back home to Edmonton. Will 2 hours be enough to get through Canadian customs and catch the next leg? Seen plenty on the Canadian->US but not the EU->CAD->CAD. Sorry if this has been asked already!!

Has anyone else left from Toronto to Ottawa in their 20s?

As the title says above, has anyone left Toronto for Ottawa in their 20s? I know this is a Toronto sub so I won’t get many answers but open to hearing other experiences with other cities!

I’m struggling with this decision as I was given a job offer there. I’m scared to leave friends and family and move to a new city. A part of me feels like I will regret it.

Has anyone else done the same? I’d love to hear about your experience.

First Time in Toronto

Good morning, Me and my Partner are heading to Niagara Falls in a month and we are going to spend a week or so in Toronto. I just have a few questions I was hoping you fine folks could answer. We are likely to stay in the downtown area.

Any hotel suggestions?

As Far as transportation should we look into renting a vehicle, or would a combination of public transport and ride share be enough? Keep in mind I'm coming from the States (Not those kinds of Americans, we hate the orange guy) would I even be able to drive with an American license.

My Partner is Vegetarian so restaurant recommendations for her would be nice though it doesn't have to be strictly vegetarian/vegan.

And any sites to see? We are planning to go to the distillery district, St Lawrence Market and Casa Loma and I guess that ties into the transportation above.

Thanks for any help. We would appreciate it and look forward to spending time in your fine city.

What to do when your preferred name is your last name?

I go by my last name almost everywhere. However, in my university portal(TMU), when I put my last name as my preferred name, in every letter, it displays both (e.g. John John, Edwards Edwards).

I feel like it looks really unprofessional. What is the best approach for this if anyone has also dealt with this.

After the FIFA World Cup, what do you think about Toronto hosting the Commonwealth Games?

I saw this article https://www.cbc.ca/sports/the-buzzer-newsletter-commonwealth-games-swimming-preview-9.7278432 and thought. What if Toronto held the Commonwealth Games?

Where to find hard kombucha in Toronto?

Upvotes

I am a big fan of hard kombucha and cannot seem to find it anywhere in the city. I would prefer cans/bottle availability but would also be more than happy to go support somewhere that has kombucha on tap. Thanks!

Looking for GI specialist in Toronto

I have had such a difficult time finding a good GI specialist in Toronto and need some help. My current GI doesn’t help and doesn’t believe in supplements or in dietary support. I am consistently told to just avoid spicy food, alcohol, and stress. Nothing more. I’d love to find someone who knows about supportive steps as well as medication. I’m trying to avoid immuneosuppressants and need a GI who is knowledgeable and believes in supplement support, checks in on blood work and levels, is responsive in a flare up and knows current research. If you have any good recommendations please let me know. I am desperate.

Edit: I have ulcerative colitis, and am on mesalamine to treat it. I have been on prednisone and I am in a flare. Looking for holistic support not just supplements. I believe in medication and use it, I just want to be supported in other ways as well. I have a GI specialist that doesn’t explain anything, doesn’t do blood work, misses follow phone calls and gives very little support. I’d just like to change that.

Moving to Ontario soon. Looking for a place while I job hunt.

Hello,

I moved from Eastern Canada to upstate NY because I had a job here for a while. That job ended, and I will have to move back to Canada soon. I am thinking of moving to Ontario because it is close, pretty advanced and also I don't want to go back to Atlantic Canada. I am an engineer and applying to jobs in Ontario vigorously, but it may take some time before I land something. I might have to move there without a job.

Since I am not familiar with the place, can you guys tell me somewhere cheap where I can sleep and store my stuff while I job hunt throughout the day?

HISTORY Toronto box table tickets have Floor Access?

Hi,

I’m looking at section BOX203/BOX204 table tickets for a show at History and was wondering if they also give access to the GA floor.

Floor tickets are sold out but these box table tickets are still available for only $95 each. There are also MEZZ section tickets still available but those are $160. I reeally wanna be in the pit for this event.

Has anyone had BOX table tickets before and was able to go down to the pit or were you restricted to the box section?

Thank you!

A question about the DVP closure this weekend

There's a triathlon this weekend and the DVP is closed to noon on Sunday.

Does that mean the DVP opens right at noon? Or does it take a while for the triathlon to wind down and after they remove the pylons and in practice it really opens at 1/2pm?

Has anyone got any insights from last year? I need to be in Markham for 1pm.

Thanks!

R&D or Yueh Tung?

Hi! My husband and I (early 40s, live in a major U.S. city) are taking a short trip to Toronto this weekend, and after lots of restaurant research, we have narrowed our dinner choice down to either R&D or Yueh Tung for one of the nights we are in town. The other night we are having dinner at Alo, so for this night we wanted something a lot more casual and just completely different in terms of food. Any thoughts on which of these would be better? We’ve never been to Toronto before and both of these options look really good! Thanks in advance.
