Does cold approaching actually work in Toronto?

So many people complain that they’re exhausted by the dating apps. At the same time, I rarely see people start conversations with strangers in public.

For those who’ve respectfully approached someone in person (transit, mall, restaurant , park etc.):

Is it still more effective than dating apps?

Why does it seem so uncommon in Toronto?

If you’re a woman, how do you usually feel when someone approaches respectfully?

Curious to hear your real experiences—successes or awkward failures.

How do I even get into dating again?

I'm a F(18) and I just got out of a 2 year relationship 6 months ago and I want to try to get back into the dating scene.

Recently I've been getting harassed alot more often after turning 18. Im talking about getting followed home and having multiple guys ask for my number than get pissed when I decline. (I work in a customer service job where I literally have to serve them with a smile, which they take as a go ahead with anything.)

It also probably doesn't help that I've upped my standards alot and know what I want in my life rn and what I need in a partner. So its hard for me to find someone.

I just feel like no matter what boy I talk to it ends horribly or the only guys who want to ask me out give off straight creep vibes.

I also dont feel like my standards are set very high. I myself want to wait until marriage but if I date someone who doesn't I'd be fine with it. I also don't like smokers but I dont mind things like alcohol. I also want a guy who won't give a shit about me being a artist and we can both kind of have our weirder sides. And I dont want kids.

I dont know, I feel like those standard arent very high but maybe they are? I dont really give a shit but I can't find anyone and I have no idea where to find them?

I guess I just need advice on what I should do? I don't want to go through dating apps but maybe if someone has certain places to go (where I wont be approached by creeps :'I )?

Double Date Ideas?

I'm meeting my best friend's bf for the first time and we've agreed to go on a double date. I've never been on a double date before so I'm not sure what the best way to get to know him would be. What are some of the best restaurants in the city that we can go to? For context, my partner and I are in our mid 20s and so is she and her bf. Was thinking of something casual but my best friend and I are sick of typical pub food. We're also not picky and none of us have any allergies.

19 M Going out With 23 yr old Woman. Where Should I take her?

I worked with this girl who I thought was cute and when she told me she wasn’t working here anymore I decided I was gonna ask her out. I did a couple weeks later but i’m sort of in a loop of where I should take her. I’ve only gone out with girls my age and choosing a plan or destination is easy. Help me make a plan and choose what to do or where to go. I’ve been thinking Friday night roller skating or ice skating with late night treat or some food. Or a Saturday beach day and explore the town and get food, Afternoon to whenever we’re ready to leave. We’ve had good a little flirty conversations at work so I’m not a stranger to her. She is a bit of a homebody and doesn’t go out much and a mostly keeps to herself and works. She likes nature, concerts, the gym.

Has anyone attended a 15FirstDate event in Toronto?

Has anyone attended a 15 First Date event in Toronto? I have a ticket for today's event, but the wildfire smoke has been affecting my breathing, and the city has issued a city-wide alert to stay home if possible. I wasn't able to get a refund from the organizers or use the ticket for a future event, according to the organizers. For people who've gone before, is the event worth attending, or would you skip it given the current air quality? I'd also be interested in hearing about your experience with the event overall.

Ghosted for no reason, kind of devastated

Hey guys :) I’ve been single (25F) for about a year now. I’ve been on and off the apps but usually end up pausing or deleting entirely when I get annoyed or need a break. I’ve had a few situationships or whatever but nothing serious. This past Tuesday I matched on bumble with someone I went to university with and lived in residence with during our first year. I had an insane crush on him during our first year, and we did kiss at a party once but that’s about it. We matched and immediately I was excited, and he actually was extremely cool. We talked a TON for about 5 days until he went to a friends house on Saturday. I woke up on Sunday and was blocked on EVERYTHING, even Spotify and letterboxd. I have gone over and over in my head trying to figure out what I could have done, or if there’s anything floating around about me that could have scared him away, and I’m nowhere near perfect but I genuinely cannot think of what could have warranted being blocked on everything with no explanation. Things were going so well over the phone, so I’m really upset honestly. Not to mention already feeling negatively about the state of the dating scene here
:( anyone have any good tips for how to get over being blocked/ghosted, or any tips for how to meet people irl since the apps clearly aren’t working for me?

Reasons for ghosting

Okay it's time we talk about it. I hope this can be an honest, non-judgmental comment section where all genders discuss the reasons they have had for ghosting someone at various stages in the dating process. I hope this doesn't turn into a men vs women thing as I know for a fact it is happening on both sides. I, as a woman, just really want to get to the bottom as to WHY it happens. Because we all know the ones who ghosted us won't be telling us. Or at the very least send me a private dm if you think you will be ridiculed for commenting publicly. I am just so tired and want answers. I promise I will be open-minded to the replies.

Dating for 10 years, fear of commitment?

Asking for a friend, seriously!

My friend is about to be in her mid-30s. She's been dating this guy for almost TEN YEARS. She has expressed to us over the years that she would like to get married and have kids.

Her boyfriend is the same age. He's busy and professionally successful. He treats her well enough and is generous.

We're afraid that when he is ready to actually settle down, he'll dump her and create a family with someone else.

They aren't engaged, aren't married, and have no shared investments.

Is she wasting her time? What's going on in his mind, you think?

They look good together but we feel like she deserves more certainty and actions from him.

edit: what is with the rude replies? nowhere in the post does it say that I meddle in their relationship. I'm simply asking here to see people's opinions on this type of situation. If I was involving myself in their shit, I wouldn't be here asking for y'alls pov smh. do y'all not have friends or family that you care about even when you keep your opinions to yourself???

Bad date and staring at my plate nonstop

Dating in Toronto as a woman is a nightmare .im fairly good looking .went out on a date where the guy was vegetarian and constantly kept staring at my food and commenting .this was when he couldn’t stop bitching about his ex for two hours .he started so horribly at my plate worst than a dog and my dog is a gentleman .as soon as I would bite he would ask how it tasted similar to waiters who come and ask for feedback as soon as your mouth is full . he just recently went vegetarian .then he tried to get super touchy feely /he went to the bathroom three times in one hour .he said he hated the food .we went to Louis Louis at dinner time .the dessert he ordered which I had three tsp of food in total he complained about while eating it and I honestly have to go to that restaurant alone again to recover from him having tainted my fave spot .
For ppl who met ppl organically how do you do that

What are dating events like? And what kind of people do you meet there?

I've heard nothing but negativity when it comes to dating events. Most of the time it's about there being no guys and that if a guy goes in its humiliating because you're spend the day getting rejected repeatedly.

I haven't heard anything about what it's actually like to go. Like how do they work? What kind of girls go there. What kind of guys go? What's it like when there are guys there? Is it as bad as I hear?

Tldr what's it like going to a dating event?

Anyone try Perfect pairings?

Hi! I’m curious to know if anyone has tried the “Perfect Pairings” singles cooking classes in Toronto and what your experience was like?

I’m finding it harder and harder to date within the city but it seems like this is something most people are feeling now a days

Girls who have never been on a real date, what's your reason?

I'm 22M, and I realized I've never actually been on a proper date.

I've been in a long-term relationship before, but we never did the typical cafe dates, coffee, dressing up, or just going out because it was a date. We were already close, so that phase just.....never happened.

Now I'm wondering if anyone else relates.

Especially women between 19–26, have you never been on a real date either? If yes, what's the reason? Strict parents, never met the right person, anxiety, relationships that just happened naturally, or something else?

Curious to know if this is more common than it seems.
