I’m in the process of planning a retreat for a college a cappella group, and I’m trying to build a schedule that feels intentional, balanced, and not just “rehearsal all day until everyone is completely drained.”
This is my first time organizing something like this, so I’d really love to hear what other groups typically include in their retreat schedules, especially things that actually help with both musical growth and group bonding.
Right now I’m thinking:
- Full group rehearsals (music + blocking/visuals)
- Sectionals / voice part work
- Section bonding time
- Some kind of team-building activity or game night
- Goal-setting / vision session for the semester or year
- Downtime so people don’t burn out
But, I feel like I’m missing that “glue” that makes retreats feel meaningful instead of just a long rehearsal day in a different location.
If your group has done retreats before:
- What did your schedule look like?
- What actually worked well vs. what didn’t?
- Any traditions or activities that made it memorable?
- How do you balance productivity with rest and fun?
