Hey everybody!
I just bought one of these scales who give you % stats on your body fat, muscle mass, water and bones. Of course, those are not completely accurate and only estimates. But now I learned that those are completely wrong and basically useless when you’re a very skinny woman?
I basically just wanted to track how much water retention I have, because I’m taking creatine to gain weight. And I’m also taking a lot of salt for my medical condition.
Anyhow, now it gave me some stats that tell me absolutely nothing personally, but when I googled and asked AI, it basically told me that “In the case of a 28-year-old woman with low muscle mass and a measured body fat percentage of 5%, it is difficult to determine her body water percentage with precision from a purely biological standpoint, since a true body fat percentage of 5% in a woman is medically incompatible with life. The essential body fat that women absolutely need for survival, hormone production, organ protection, and the menstrual cycle is at least 10% to 13%. Even female bodybuilders in peak competitive condition rarely fall below 12%.”
So it basically told me that my the stats that the scale gave me are “incompatible with life” lmao🫠😭
And then it went on to explain why this happens for skinny people with low muscle mass and those types of scales - basically it’s useless for us other than reading our weight lol.
Did you guys know this? I’m a bit bummed that I can’t find out my stats now. Or are there any better products that also give accurate estimates for skinny girls? I just want to track my water percentage to make sure I’m gaining weight but not develop straight up edema😭 (disclaimer: water retention was the only way for me to gain any weight, fat and muscle mass never achieved the same results for me)
