Hey there, so I came across a old gamefaqs thread where someone was basically claiming that VC is Gallian propaganda against Imperials and that everything. So I googled Valkyria Chronicles and unreliable narrator and got this AI summary.
It did link to a thread on here where someone asks if "On the Gallian Front" was reliable or not, to which primarily one person responded and debated the TC who was saying it was unreliable. So I looked into all the interviews of the games I could find. Both from websites and the interviews in the artbooks.
So I strongly disagree with the theory that everything we see in the games are a result of an unreliable narrator.
First, the games continually show antagonistic POV's, something that could not be explained by Ellet's reporting, the records of VC3 or Claudes Journal in VC4. This is the most damning proof against this theory. There is no explanation that could explain away the enemy POV across each game. In fact, in the instance of VC4, Belgar mentions that Clementia has been missing for some time, which is later explained by VC 2. Further evidence that the games are all canonical and interconnected.
Also, there are many instances in VC 1 and 4 where Ellett/Claude arent around for events of their squad mates. For example, many Squad stories in 4 show events and interactions that Claude would have no idea about. And therefore, not in his diary. Same with VC 1, Ellett may be a daring reporter who isnt afraid of the front lines, but she isnt in majority of scenes.
Second, the artbook "Valkyria Chronicles Design Archive" displays and shows all of the main story and dlc stories, and at no point does it indicate that it is false or part of some narrative spun by Ellett or her biases. Including again, enemy POVs.
Third, the developer interviews have no instances or allusions that the story is a unrealiable narrative. The developers always talk as if the story we see in the games is what happens. In fact, in a interview for VC4, the developers talk how they didnt want to include multiple choice endings because they didnt wants fans to argue what is canonical/true or not.
"RPG Site: In Valkyria Chronicles 3, you could develop two different relationships depending on if you chose Riela or Imca, so it developed two different stories leading to two different endings. Does something like that exist in Valkyria Chronicles 4?
Kei Mikami: With VC4, there’s only one main relationship because we felt that having two separate stories would divide fans into debating which one is the true route or story. We wanted to avoid that kind of debate this time around with having one clear story."
Why would they say this if the game wasnt the "true" route/story?
Finally, many games have narrations, including JRPGs. Fire Emblem Three Houses for example has narrations among tapestries illustrating the endings. No one in the FE fandom(to my knowledge) would argue that therefore the game is a biased work from the narrators POV. Point is, the games use Elletts book/Claudes Diary/records for the narration, not for the actual scenes we see in the game.
Someone may say "but the menus in VC1/4 are their respective books", to which I would respond, yes, its a UI, and one that contains countless photos that were never taken, such as during top secret enemy POVs. Somehow I doubt Ellett would be invited to Imperial high commands meetings with his generals.
In summary, all the cutscenes and story we see in-game occurs and happens as we see it. Google AI is incorrect here, and it makes a lot of assumptions.
Anyways, I figured id share all of this.
Thank you for reading!

I have recently bought the game second hand but it doesn't have the art booklet (The Art Of Valkyria Chronicles Remastered) and i'd like to know if there is scan online or anyone can scan it if they have the booklet.

I loved VC1. Bought a PS3 just for that game and never regretted it. Enjoyed 2. 3 was pretty good. A few chapters into 4 (to where they bring out the assault tanks then give you a few tanks to compensate) and it just feels rather...meh.
Like I've always enjoyed learning about the different characters and such but VC4 just dumps a ton on you. That'd be OK except that it seems to be all yap yap yap yap blast through a map super quick only using half the deployed characters then yap yap yap yap again.
I want the story, I just don't need every chapter being basically press X to watch the next clip then the maps being a let down then play more clips. Sometimes Kai and Riley just sit at the base 90% of the map and the only reason I have them is for the command points and a few opening shots. It'd be more fun if you had a clip or two, then a map, then some more talking, then another map and so on for just a single chapter.
I hate not being able to see the enemy on the map and plan accordingly, but I guess that's compensated by not having to strategize much. No problem with the lack of classes as it's set in the VC1 timeline, but the story itself so far is just...eh. Also think it was a mistake to allow you to use the VC1 characters in regular battles, as then VC4 feels even more like a side story.
I'll play through it either way but I really hope it picks up before long.

The final Edy Detachment challenge in VC1 has this one briefing screen with a clunky translation which sticks out like a sore thumb in a game that's otherwise well translated. Orders have become The Order and "because of the confusion of the communication" is a phrase that just reeks of classic bad Japanese to English translations from games from prior generations.

I managed to name my main character, his tank crew and the enemy nations leaders.
That's all, the rest is explaining some bits for anyone curious. Thanks.
It's set 40-ish years after Chronicles 4, the Empire fractured into 2 nations, the New Ruzian Empire(the bad guys) and the Preutzen Republic. the New Ruzian Empire has 3 princesses and 1 prince, all 3 princesses are Valkyre's, the Prince is obsessed with Valkyrie history.

No bro... what do you mean Isara dies like that, that shot was the loudest shit ever. Noooo why man, why does she have to die like that... I've never yelled a bigger "NO!" in such a long time.

Just finished the main story and I figured I might as well get all the achievements this time around. I go to try out the newly unlocked Hard and Expert levels on Skirmish 1, and both of them have your squad starting out being shot from all sides by a horde of enemies that can melt your lvl 20 soldiers with reaction fire from cover from ridiculous distances in the time it takes for them to raise their rifles. The main game was so easy that I'd welcome tougher battles but this wasn't exactly what I had in mind.

The devs cruel for this achievement lol I don't think I have the heart to get this achievement lol cause the characters so likeable and feel alive with their sometimes stupid potentials but it makes them feel more alive and stuff what I love about this series

An entry in my project of redesigning the main cast of VC4 to have uniforms that look more combat ready and more closely resemble their class (a la VC1).
This one took a while, I've never touched blender before this project. For this one I had to recolor Riley's sniper-bait blue sweater to a more reasonable army green, and had to custom model her fashionable, yet practical new cargo skirt. I felt the need to give her a skirt and let her have a bit of a more unique uniform because it's called out in the dialogue that her uniform is a custom design and she only wears skirts.
While designing, I tried by best to keep the skeleton attached to the pieces of the uniform, so hopefully one day I can figure out how to put this into the game. Fingers crossed, but no promises.

I'm working on the achievement "Arms Racer" (obtain all infantry weapons) in VC4, and I can't get the Gallian A10R from the infirmary. I've tried many times but I keep getting all the other tier 3 weapons except this rifle. I've already maxed out my R&D Gallian rifles, does that mean that I can't get the Gallian A10R anymore? :(
Edit: I've got the rifle! If anyone else is stuck in this situation and can't get a certain weapon at the infirmary here's what to do:
So each weapon tier in the infirmary will give you certain weapon models that have some extra qualities compared to their R&D counterparts, for example tier 3 weapons are Reising M9A1R, Gallian A10R etc.
It seems that at the infirmary there is a much higher chance of getting weapon models that you did not upgrade a lot in R&D, so make sure that your weapons are all upgraded equally.
For example if your Reising machine guns in R&D are still low level while you have maxed out the Gallian Rifles in R&D (like I did) the infirmary will much more likely give you a Reising M9A1R instead of a Gallian A10R. So I just upgraded the Reising machine guns in R&D until they were the same level as the Gallian rifles, and finally I got the Gallian A10R I was looking for at the infirmary

This is a long shot, but anyone know how to export from blender to .mlx?

Using Alicia to rush the Windmill Plaza skirmish reminds me way too much of this scene from Band of Brothers. Lieutenant Speirs is just running through an entire town full of Germans. It really felt like Winters just spent every single command point on Speirs and stacked every single order.

Just beat VC1 main story, after playing for 7 months on Nintendo Switch. I really struggled with most missions, and found the combat extremely frustrating at times, but I still liked the gameplay overall. This game greatly impressed me with it's gorgeous art style and visuals (aged so well imo), story, characters (both main and side cast), music and ui (the book layout is awesome). Extremely grateful to have experienced this game, considering I only picked it up since it was on sale. I'll likely revisit the post-game content down the line. Would also love to get VC4 when it goes on sale, and potentially emulate VC2 and/or VC3. All in all, this is a phenomenal game that I'll recommend when the chance arises. Heres to hoping the franchise continues one day!
