No experience necessary for the laborer custodial or maintenance mechanic positions. It helps on the interview but you can surely think of maintenance related experience to relay for an interview. Based on fixing things around your house, the car etc. Always mention working safely.
Pro tip: You can apply for any job that has an exam opening and the test is administered local to yourself. Make sure you're serious and score decently; you can turn down the job offer. Keep a physical copy of your exam score, I believe they are good for two years.
The reason is: These job postings can be posted externally at capacity for testing, meaning they will not allow you to take the exam if they have enough qualified applicants. However, if you have a test score on the books, you are a qualified applicant.
Explanation of PVO/MVO/TTO to save time:
PVO= CDL C Show up and we train you to move up!
MVO= CDL B Can only drive box trucks on public roads, can drive anything for moves on postal property.
TTO= CDL A Can drive anything.
USPS provides the training. (Maintenance jobs at least. Management...GOOD LUCK)
You don't have to be crazy to work here. We will train you.

I start academy this Friday! It’s now all starting to feel real.
If you told me back in January I was going to be a mail man, I’d probably laugh. Here we are, foot in the door, ready to go on routes.
Life feels good. I quit drinking 10 months and 2 days ago. Life has been really rewarding in terms of having a clear path of where I want to be and how to get to it. Also, realizing the people I want and don’t want around me.

77 year-old #GailGiustino allegedly collected feral cats along her postal route. After she reportedly refused to cooperate with animal control, deputies obtained a search warrant and discovered the home had no working air conditioning or ventilation, temperatures above 110 degrees, and floors covered in animal waste.
Officials said the woman had recently surrendered about 15 animals in an apparent attempt to reduce the number on the property before the search.
She was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and confinement of animals without sufficient exercise. Her bond was set at $50,000 The rescued animals are now being evaluated.

City Carrier Discussion It’s been a long road but I’m in!

It’s been quite the journey to get in. I first applied and accepted a position in Dec 2025. In January 2026 I was deemed unsuitable due to a prior felony drug conviction (convicted dec 2018). However I appealed. I had a reference letter written by my old boss and also turned in all court documents from my conviction. In April 2026 after almost 100 days I got my unsuitability reversed. Fast forward to last week I finally got an offer and the offer was from the closest office to my house (2 miles).
I’m excited to finally get out of family events and no social life!
Also s/o to the ones on reddit who told me I had no chance on my appeal. Thank you for the jinx 🤞

I’m 3 months in as a cca and I’m so proud of the progress I’ve made. This is by FAR the most challenging job I’ve ever had to learn and it’s so satisfying to see myself actually make progress and push forward. 3 months ago I could barely hold a stack of dps and now I’ve serviced thousands of houses across 6 routes at my office and have even helped a new cca learn the small route I learned on. It’s encouraging to see myself get just a little bit better every day!

DISCUSSION I really don’t get how they expect RCAs to survive - rant

Been working as a RCA for about 3 years now and I really enjoy the job but I don’t get how upper management expects RCAs afford to survive. When I first started I caught on pretty quick basically all of the other subs at my office have a second job to help make ends meet because of the lack of hours. I have a second job I work at, and I’m usually able to still work my scheduled Saturday and any other coverage days if I have a small amount of notice.
Lately my acting postmaster has been coming down hard on us subs for having a second job and now we’re being told we are required to have full availability on both Sundays and Mondays, even if we aren’t needed.
Not really sure how much longer I’ll be able to stay with the company. The PO doesn’t guarantee me enough hours/pay to justify me staying at home hoping to be called in.

Work Discussion Attendance Review

So they’re doing attendance reviews at my office. I was told my attendance was unacceptable bc I had 4 days missed from 4/1-6/30. I know i only called in 3 times because I can go back and look at my screen shots. Apparently they are counting the actual number of days not occurrences. I’m also being told that if I clock in at 8:01am i am late. So my question is I thought call out go by occurrences not the actual amount of days you call out for, I also was under the impression that there was a 5 min grace period on clocking in. Was I just misinformed this whole time?

I can’t believe we have a little over 45 of the new LLV’s just sitting on the lot for 2 years now (probably more I forgot). We have not been trained on them or anything but they keep promising we will use them soon. Fingers crossed we do!!!

Could someone please explain to me how or why having AirPods or a listening device in one ear is such a frowned upon offense punishable by being put off the clock? Does everyone just put their phones on speaker or use a speaker throughout the day? Probably what I’ll be doing going forward because I’ll go crazy if they want me to work in complete silence for next 30 something years.
Also with the triple digit heat we’re experiencing around the world, you’re telling me that Safety is more concerned how we cut corners to get out the heat, rather than how to improve our conditions while we’re in the heat. Why would you want to put someone off the clock and make other carriers take on more work and be out in the heat longer just so you can make a point, or exert your dominance. Any one else notice that all of safety looks like they’ve never carried on even touched a piece of mail but have the nerve to tell us that we are being unsafe. You come do this job in this heat for a day, and then you tell me I’m being unsafe. No it’s called I’m trying to get out the heat and get home to my family. Everyone be safe out there, the post office claims they care about us yet we still have carriers passing away in this heat and your worried about us having an earphone in checking on fellow carriers while we are doing our routes everyday. They don’t care about us, that’s just something they say because it sounds good.

Hiring Help Starting with the PO as a career city carrier

Hey everyone, so my first day of orientation is August 10 and pretty nervous to start I’ve never done this before but looking forward to it at the same time. Just want to know about the job in general and if anyone can answer me some questions and advice.
1) im hired as a PTF will i be getting a lot of OT ?
My office is in boston and its a decent sized office.
2) best way to get through and pass my probation period?
3) does health insurance start right away will they tell me that an orientation?
4) how does casing mail work? I’ve been watching videos on it so I’m a little familiar with it.
5) I got hired a 26 an hour. What will my top pay be & how many years does it take to get to it?
6) how does transferring work at the post office if I want to transfer from Boston down to Florida? Can I bid for a job down there or do I have to do some type of mutual swap?

DISCUSSION Mail stopped getting delivered because of road condition

My route driver stopped delivering the mail to my road. It’s a dirt road and got stuck one time. My neighbors gets mail but driver stopped delivering to end of road. City won’t pave the road for whatever years in over ten years. What are my options? Driver told me i can put a box at the top of the road but that doesn’t seem secure.

City Carrier Discussion Taken off of hold down

CCA here , So in January I was on a route with extremely heavy stairs that caused the regular from that route to have knee surgery and all she does it case it up everyday. I expressed discomfort after a few months myself , they took me off of it , now the whole station is pretty much filled with stairs with the exception of a few routes here and there. Last week I put a hold down on a route that has maybe a dozen houses with large elaborate stairs to the mailbox. I was told by one union steward to toss it rubber banded and by another I was told to bring it back so I brought it back because that sounded better. Today I clock in they tell me I’m not doing my hold down , they put me on the longest route in the station that stays vacant, take an hour off of it and tell me whatever has stairs along your portion just put a marker at the case. Now this new route has just as many houses with elaborate stairs not even counting the hour they take off of me , what should I do ? ALSO I’m FMLA approved doctor doesn’t want me doing stairs at all.

City Carrier Discussion Unpaid wages

I was hired as a CCA and completed the OJT. Unfortunately, I injured my knee and had to resign. When I met with my supervisor to sign the paperwork I brought up that I was shorted time in training in my paycheck which equals over 8 hours. This is on top of talking and emailing another supervisor about this issue. There is also travel expenses that need to be reimbursed and I gave her the appropriate form. She said it would be taken care of by next week, the following week at the latest. It has been 3 weeks and no answer to my two messages until this morning that said she'll let her boss know. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this? I have read horror stories that it took up to a year to get compensation. I am thinking of filing a complaint with the attorney general but only if they drag this out.

There is a rural carrier at my post office that just did her 6 months as 204b and she just came back to her route maybe 2–3 weeks ago.. they’re pulling her back up to 204b next week and are saying she wasn’t a 204b for the whole 180 days.
The contract states she has to come back to her route for 90 days.
I don’t think this it’s right that’s she gets to keep her route, and gets to go back to sitting in the office for another extended period of time but our union steward told me they found a loophole.. and that there’s nothing we can do about it.
Advice?
