No experience necessary for the laborer custodial or maintenance mechanic positions. It helps on the interview but you can surely think of maintenance related experience to relay for an interview. Based on fixing things around your house, the car etc. Always mention working safely.
Pro tip: You can apply for any job that has an exam opening and the test is administered local to yourself. Make sure you're serious and score decently; you can turn down the job offer. Keep a physical copy of your exam score, I believe they are good for two years.
The reason is: These job postings can be posted externally at capacity for testing, meaning they will not allow you to take the exam if they have enough qualified applicants. However, if you have a test score on the books, you are a qualified applicant.
Explanation of MVO/TTO to save time:
PVO= they train you up to MVO/TTO licensing.
MVO= CDL B Can only drive box trucks on public roads, can drive anything for moves on postal property.
TTO= CDL A Can drive anything.
USPS provides the training. (Maintenance jobs at least. Management...GOOD LUCK)
You don't have to be crazy to work here. We will train you.

77 year-old #GailGiustino allegedly collected feral cats along her postal route. After she reportedly refused to cooperate with animal control, deputies obtained a search warrant and discovered the home had no working air conditioning or ventilation, temperatures above 110 degrees, and floors covered in animal waste.
Officials said the woman had recently surrendered about 15 animals in an apparent attempt to reduce the number on the property before the search.
She was arrested and charged with animal cruelty and confinement of animals without sufficient exercise. Her bond was set at $50,000 The rescued animals are now being evaluated.

City Carrier Discussion It’s been a long road but I’m in!

It’s been quite the journey to get in. I first applied and accepted a position in Dec 2025. In January 2026 I was deemed unsuitable due to a prior felony drug conviction (convicted dec 2018). However I appealed. I had a reference letter written by my old boss and also turned in all court documents from my conviction. In April 2026 after almost 100 days I got my unsuitability reversed. Fast forward to last week I finally got an offer and the offer was from the closest office to my house (2 miles).
I’m excited to finally get out of family events and no social life!
Also s/o to the ones on reddit who told me I had no chance on my appeal. Thank you for the jinx 🤞

I start academy this Friday! It’s now all starting to feel real.
If you told me back in January I was going to be a mail man, I’d probably laugh. Here we are, foot in the door, ready to go on routes.
Life feels good. I quit drinking 10 months and 2 days ago. Life has been really rewarding in terms of having a clear path of where I want to be and how to get to it. Also, realizing the people I want and don’t want around me.

So they’re doing attendance reviews at my office. I was told my attendance was unacceptable bc I had 4 days missed from 4/1-6/30. I know i only called in 3 times because I can go back and look at my screen shots. Apparently they are counting the actual number of days not occurrences. I’m also being told that if I clock in at 8:01am i am late. So my question is I thought call out go by occurrences not the actual amount of days you call out for, I also was under the impression that there was a 5 min grace period on clocking in. Was I just misinformed this whole time?

DISCUSSION I really don’t get how they expect RCAs to survive - rant

Been working as a RCA for about 3 years now and I really enjoy the job but I don’t get how upper management expects RCAs afford to survive. When I first started I caught on pretty quick basically all of the other subs at my office have a second job to help make ends meet because of the lack of hours. I have a second job I work at, and I’m usually able to still work my scheduled Saturday and any other coverage days if I have a small amount of notice.
Lately my acting postmaster has been coming down hard on us subs for having a second job and now we’re being told we are required to have full availability on both Sundays and Mondays, even if we aren’t needed.
Not really sure how much longer I’ll be able to stay with the company. The PO doesn’t guarantee me enough hours/pay to justify me staying at home hoping to be called in.

I was hired as a CCA and completed the OJT. Unfortunately, I injured my knee and had to resign. When I met with my supervisor to sign the paperwork I brought up that I was shorted time in training in my paycheck which equals over 8 hours. This is on top of talking and emailing another supervisor about this issue. There is also travel expenses that need to be reimbursed and I gave her the appropriate form. She said it would be taken care of by next week, the following week at the latest. It has been 3 weeks and no answer to my two messages until this morning that said she'll let her boss know. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this? I have read horror stories that it took up to a year to get compensation. I am thinking of filing a complaint with the attorney general but only if they drag this out.

My route driver stopped delivering the mail to my road. It’s a dirt road and got stuck one time. My neighbors gets mail but driver stopped delivering to end of road. City won’t pave the road for whatever years in over ten years. What are my options? Driver told me i can put a box at the top of the road but that doesn’t seem secure.

Work Discussion Maintenance - eligibility to work higher level (contract section/MOU to look at)?

My plant is pulling some BS about level 7s working up as level 9s, I'm trying to educate myself on particulars of the contract.
We don't go on long higher level details, it's night to night as needed and what I was told by a supervisor at one point was that the only people who should be working higher level (by contract) would be those on the PER. He transferred out so I can't ask for specifics.
What I find in the contract is: Article 25.4 "Detailing of employees to higher-level bargaining unit work in each craft shall be from those eligible, qualified and available employees in each craft in the immediate work area in which the temporarily vacant higher-level position exists."
And the 2022 JCIM - "A detail to a higher-level senior qualified bargaining unit position for a period of less than five (5) working days should be covered by an employee(s) in the same craft who is eligible, qualified and available from the immediate work area."
I guess my questions are - does night to night with requests going in via 1260 still count as detailing? And does "eligible, qualified" just mean 'on the PER'?
(Basically, I'm the only MM7 on my tour on the PER and I plan to grieve it if they work anyone higher level over me if my reading of the contract is correct.)

Hey guys I just have a few things to say and wanted to see what you guys thought. I am a rural carrier non-career. I am running two routes a day most of the time. Is it fair that I’m being pushed to do another route everyday because I finish before everyone else? It seems every one doesn’t care about eval time and just works by the hour but I want to go HOME! Should I just give up on eval time and just be as slow as possible like everyone else? I hate working slow. Sometimes it works out great because I stay under 40 but it’s pretty stressful when I’m close. I even work through 1 hour lunch breaks to keep the eval.
Another thing. Shouldn’t I be paid eval time on the second route since I case and run the DPS? But I don’t take any spars or packages.
I don’t mind doing extra I understand it’s work and won’t be fair sometimes but it’s hard when I come back and everyone left and I’m always last to leave.

Today was the first time I ever brought back mail. It was raining very heavy and thundering and we had severe tornado warnings but I still try to finish until i was driving and couldnt see the road almost go into an accident and I was like yeaa this not safe. I took it back (4 -6loops) and the postmaster wasnt happy

Today I went in and the postmaster told me not to clock in and to wait for her in the breakroom and 2 mins past she called me into her office and she fired me and I ask for a resignation and she said that fine but she will contact HR and tell them put me on the do not rehire list.
