I was backpacking in RMNP 2 weeks ago and saw this “vibrating” (?) light in the sky. It appeared to bounce back and forth but stayed relatively in the same area. At one point it faded out and came back. It seemed to have no rhythm to it.
It stayed there until I ended up falling asleep watching it.
Any thoughts?

Also side note, this was recorded with an IPhone 16 Pro Max. It’s incredible how bad the low light quality is.

West same direction of the moon tonight.

I was about to hop into bed and I looked out the window and saw it right away, a very bright light in the sky. Looked at it for a while, opened flightradar and saw no signs of any aircraft, it was too large to be a star or planet. Looked at it then looked back down to get my phone out for not even a second, and it was just gone. It was bright and orange, you could not miss it.

Sighting Saw South of Denver

Location: South Littleton (SW Denver), CO

Date: July 20, 2026.

Time: 8:42 pm.

Duration: 2 minutes, 30 seconds.

Number of witnesses: 4

Description of sighting: Saw the object moving from NNW to SSE over my neighborhood starting in front of my house (North); followed it to the back until it was out of sight. It has a very consistent rotational or oscillating behavior. It was highly reflective - the sun can be seen on it particularly in the second video segment when the sun was behind the camera. The object was square-ish and almost flat on 1 axis, and traveled in an extremely straight line relative to the ground. It was going against the ground-level wind, although our area has different wind directions depending on altitude (hot air balloons launch all the time in our area to take advantage of that). Appeared to be below or just at the lowest cloud layer. No one in the family (4 witnesses) could identify it. Apologies for the unsteady capture - it's a lot harder that I guessed.

Interview with a Fully Conscious UFO Contactee Part One: Awakening

by Preston Dennett

Late one evening in January of 1973, fourteen-year-old Dolly Safran (who lived near the Everglades in Florida) looked outside her window to observe more than fifty star-like objects swarming overhead. As they began to dart off in different directions, one of these objects dropped down and hovered at treetop level behind her house.

The object now revealed itself to be a solid metallic craft, with portholes. And through the portholes, Dolly was shocked to see two short, gray-skinned figures with large dark eyes and huge black heads. Aliens, she realized, and they were looking right at her! She turned to dive under her bed. At that moment, her room exploded in brilliant blue light.

The next thing Dolly knew, hours had passed and morning had arrived. Dolly found herself on the floor of her room, dressed in someone else's pajamas, which were on inside out and backwards. She had been taken, she realized. It had happened again.

Throughout her young life, this sort of thing had happened several times. But this time, she resolved to remember. And when the radio came on and said that there had been other witnesses, Dolly got the confirmation she needed. She wasn't crazy. She really was seeing UFOs.

She sat down in the bathroom and began to concentrate, meditate, focus. And all at once, the wall of amnesia started to crumble and memories of being taken onboard the craft flooded into her mind.

Dolly had to go to school that day, and she received further confirmation when her best friend also reported seeing a UFO on the same night. By the end of the day, Dolly remembered everything that had happened to her that night. And not only did she remember that night, she was able to recall the many other times she had been taken, going all the way back to her first contact event when she was only ten months old and she floated right out of her crib.

Suddenly, all those weird events of missing time made sense. Dolly recalled many other instances of contact. She recalled the time at age two where he was missing for two hours and was found six miles away from her home. She had been taken.

She remembered an incident at age six when a craft came down and took her from the front yard of her home. She recalled many other instances too.

But her experience at age fourteen changed everything. She recalled being taken onboard the craft and meeting short little grays, and a much taller gray she called "Momma." She was given a tour of the craft. The craft itself was a living being, and Dolly recalled meeting him many times. She called him "Tlera."

During this onboard experience, Dolly was taken to the control room, which the ETs called "the place of movement." She was instructed to sit in the pilot seat and to her amazement and delight, the craft left Earth and they traveled to Saturn. After exploring Saturn's rings and many moons, they traveled to Earth's moon, actually landing upon its surface.

Dolly had a long conversation with the ETs, and they offered her the opportunity to learn from them and work alongside them. She was given the freedom to choose any subject she wanted to explore. "Can I learn how to fly the craft?" Dolly asked.

The ETs agreed. And so began Dolly's lifelong experiences as a fully conscious UFO contactee. She soon began having fantastic adventures including visiting large motherships filled with plants and animals, traveling to other planets and star-systems and meeting with a wide variety of ETs. It was a fantastic adventure that is still going on to this day.

This video presents Dolly's story up to age fourteen, including many of her childhood experiences, and her incredible awakening at age fourteen where she was taken onboard the craft and then traveled across the solar system, starting a lifetime of fully conscious contact.

Question Round metallic sphere followed by a military jet in Washington state.

Around June of 2022 I had stepped out of my home because I heard the usual fighter jets flying overhead towards whidbey island, upon looking up I saw what appeared to be a silver orb/sphere almost the size of the jet that was following it at a low 3 o clock position as it disappeared over the mountains to the west. Has anyone else seen a similar object or that same object from that time frame?

Two eye witnesses, difficult to capture on camera, but we caught the end of it.

These looked like 2 stars, Light A and B for simplicity.

They were frozen still in the clear portion of the sky, just twinkling very close to each other. Then, Light A started moving like a shooting star heading "Toward" us in a sudden burst of velocity, but instead of vanishing after a streak of light, it continued to glow, and stood still again. It had a tail like a shooting star when it moved fast.

I thought maybe it was a satellite deployment or something, but it moved again, shooting a short distance in a different direction, then stopped still again.

It began to chase the Light B. Light B began moving gradually away from it. Not instantaneous movement with a sudden snap in velocity, but more like it began to "swim" away as Light A approached. Like, it was able to anticipate Light A approaching it, and choose the direction it wanted to move, and how quickly it wanted to move, despite appearing to be a free floating object. The way they moved was arguably playful. They chased each other in circles and streaked after one another across the sky. Their tails increased or decreased in length, depending on the speed they were moving, with 0 length when coming to a halt. This behavior is on display in the clip.

They were up against the bright part of the sky, which is why we thought they were stars, but the way they behaved felt like some kind of light projection, despite there being no clouds for them to be up against/projected on, so it was strange. We started filming, and they seemed to notice and began to descend.

They moved from over the road, to the right portion of the sky, over the fields and trees, making it difficult to film them.

This is where the clip starts, you can see them in the clear part of the sky before the trees begin to cut them off.

As they descend, you can see them chasing one another, spinning down toward the ground, disappearing behind the trees. No impact or flash, they just disappeared on the surface.

Did anyone else see this? Does anyone have any idea what these were?

Disclosure Human-shaped object in US military UFO files intrigues Chinese expert

Amid a flurry of interest in newly declassified US government UFO files, a Chinese researcher has expressed intrigue in an apparent video of a fast-moving, human-shaped object.

Zhang Nan, a Beijing-based researcher into unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), said he was particularly fascinated by a nearly five-minute video, captured by a sky-facing US military infrared sensor in Florida in 2020.In the footage labelled “NAG UAP 1 Jun 20”, a humanoid-like shape hovered for a long time before abruptly moving to a distant location outside the frame.

“Assuming this wasn’t a sensor glitch and that we are looking at an actual, instantaneous displacement, AI-assisted analyses suggest the object’s acceleration could have exceeded 600g – or 600 times the force of gravity on Earth’s surface,” Zhang said.

To put that into perspective, human pilots typically black out at around 12g, and the most durable drones max out near 30g, he said.“A manoeuvre surpassing 600g is far beyond the limits of any known modern aircraft or living organism.”

However, given that the object lacked any visible propulsion system and appeared to change shape as it moved, he said that an object exceeding 600g “cannot be completely ruled out”.

As the declassified materials consisted almost entirely of photos and videos – rather than spectroscopic or radar data – their research value remained limited, he noted.“It’s highly likely the US government is withholding the materials that have genuine research potential,” Zhang said.

Sighting Star/Planet or UFO?!

First time poster!

Saw this out my window tonight, I look out this window every night as I fall asleep. Never seen anything in this spot before this prominent in the sky, noticed it moving around, checked flight radar and there was nothing in the direction I was looking for about 60+ KM.

Did some cross referencing with star maps and planet visibility, technically from where I’m located I should be able to see Saturn looking East but this video is taken looking about dead North.

Before I started recording the object was noticeably closer to my location too and it was appearing to grow more distant and fade from the initial sighting to getting my phone camera on it.

Any ideas, could this be something or am I bugging?

I recorded this over Coquitlam, BC with my iPhone. The video combines three separate 15-second clips of the same object, and in each clip it seems to move differently. I only trimmed the clips together and removed the audio. I’m not claiming it’s a UFO, I genuinely don’t know what it is and I’m hoping someone here can help identify or explain it.

Historical Do Historical “Sky Battles” Resemble Modern UAP Reports? A Source-Critical Study of Nuremberg 1561, Basel 1566, Stralsund 1665, and the PURSUE Files

A brief note before reading

I realize that posts of this length are unusual on Reddit. I initially considered reducing the subject to a few images and short observations, but when examining historical broadsheets alongside modern UAP documents, the surrounding context is part of the evidence. Dates, original wording, transmission history, visual conventions, and the quality of the available documentation all matter. In this case, shortening the material too much would risk removing precisely the details needed for a meaningful comparison.

To make the post easier to navigate, I have included a TL;DR, clear sections, illustrations, and direct links to the underlying sources.

TL;DR: Historical broadsheets and modern UAP files contain strikingly similar motifs, including spheres, disks, formations, fire, and sudden disappearance. This study explores whether these parallels could reflect recurring physical phenomena while also considering differences in documentation, historical context, and interpretation. The available evidence does not yet support a definitive conclusion, but the similarities warrant careful and open-minded investigation.

Abstract

This study compares early modern sky phenomena from Nuremberg 1561, Basel 1566, Stralsund 1665, and the Augsburg Book of Miracles with PURSUE files released in 2026. It separates possible events from eyewitness reports, media transmission, and later interpretation. Recurring motifs include spheres, disks, rods, fire, formations, battles, sounds, and sudden disappearance, which may have natural, technological, perceptual, or narrative causes. [1] [2] [4] [26] [30] [36]

Keywords: prodigies, broadsheet, celestial apparition, UAP, PURSUE, source criticism, AARO, orbs, media history

Consensus-compatible core finding:  Similar forms in images and reports are initially similarities of motif. Without contemporaneous measurements, traceable provenance, and independent corroboration, they cannot be treated as evidence of the same physical cause. [36]

1. Research Question and Scope

The guiding question is: What claims about unusual celestial phenomena are justified when early modern illustrated prints are compared with modern UAP files? The comparison is useful because certain descriptions recur. It is also risky because the sources were produced under entirely different conditions. A sixteenth-century broadsheet is not a sensor log, and a declassified government memorandum is not a physical finding. This study therefore does not examine 'UFOs through the centuries,' but the relationship among observation, transmission, visual form, and evidentiary status. [37]

The corpus is selective and comparative rather than globally comprehensive. Nuremberg 1561, Basel 1566, and Stralsund 1665 provide the historical starting points. Directly comparable broadsheets and works of art from digital collections are added, together with the latest PURSUE documents relevant to sphere, disk, rod, and swarm motifs. The scale of the historical material is visible in the portals: the e-manuscripta search for 'Himmelserscheinung' returns 101 results, while the Frankfurt Freytag collection contains 19 relevant broadsheets. The appendix makes the selection transparent and links to the originals. [24] [25]

2. Method: Strictly Separating Four Levels

The analysis follows classical source criticism and a simple hierarchy of evidence. For each case, it records the date and the source's proximity to the event, the identity and number of observers, stages of transmission, the medium's purpose and genre, available measurements or images, and alternative explanations.

Level Test question What the source actually establishes
1  Event Was there a physical process? Directly testable only through measurements, traces, or reproducible observation.
2  Report Who saw or heard what, when, and from where? That a claim about an event was made; not automatically that its physical interpretation is correct.
3  Representation Who shaped text and image, and for what purpose? Media selection, compression, symbolism, and convention.
4  Interpretation What explanation was offered at the time or later? A worldview and interpretive frame, not the identity of the phenomenon.

Methodological synthesis; for the modern data situation, compare NASA and PURSUE's own classification. [26] [36]

Terminological rule:  In PURSUE, 'unresolved' means that no definitive determination can be made, often because the data are insufficient. It means neither 'extraterrestrial' nor 'technologically superior.' [26]

3. The Early Modern Media Framework

Books of prodigies and broadsheets combined news, imagery, religious admonition, and political commentary. The Augsburg Book of Miracles arranges 167 surviving folios into a History of Salvation from the Old Testament through antiquity and the present to Revelation. Its sources probably included chronicles, older broadsheets, engravings, illustrations, and notes. This compilatory structure explains why image and date cannot be treated like a modern eyewitness record. [7]

Even contemporary broadsheets were not neutral substitutes for a camera. They compressed a narrative into a memorable scene and interpreted striking apparitions as divine warnings, omens of war, or calls to repentance. This makes them excellent sources for the history of perception and media. For physical reconstruction, however, they are only starting data with major uncertainties. [1] [2] [3] [6] [37]

4. Three Foundations

4.1 Nuremberg, 14 April 1561

Hans Glaser's colored broadsheet shows a dense ensemble above Nuremberg: spheres, crosses, semicircles, elongated tubes or rods, a black spear-like form, and smoking crash sites. The accompanying text explicitly relates the apparition to divine omnipotence. The print is therefore both a report and a work of theological visual rhetoric. Its many forms should not be read as a scale technical drawing; they organize motion, conflict, and warning within a single visual field. [1]

Fig. 1. Hans Glaser, celestial apparition over Nuremberg, 1561. The image combines spheres, rods, crosses, and an apparent crash into a simultaneous 'battle in the sky.' The surviving source establishes the printed interpretation, not the technological nature of individual forms. Digitization with color and scale reference; Public Domain Mark. Source: [1]

4.2 Basel, 27/28 July and 7 August 1566

The sheet printed by Samuel Apiarius and associated with Samuel Coccius reports three apparitions. Later reception has focused on black and bright spheres around the Sun, described as if they were fighting formations. The text calls for repentance and divine aid against the Ottoman threat. A particularly important point for source criticism is that, according to the Swiss National Museum, Apiarius and Coccius were not direct eyewitnesses; they worked from first- and second-hand reports. [2] [3]

Fig. 2. Samuel Apiarius/Samuel Coccius, Basel celestial apparition, 1566. The spheres are visually organized as formations around a personified Sun. The theological and political framing appears in the printed text below the woodcut. Digitization with color and scale reference; Public Domain Mark. Source: [2] [3]

4.3 Stralsund, 8 April 1665

The Leipzig sheet of 1665 is the earliest known illustrated account of the Stralsund case. Six fishermen were said to have seen flocks of birds offshore that transformed into battle fleets and fought amid fire, smoke, and noise. Later, a flat, round form appears above St Nicholas's Church. The print labels its scenes with letters and explains them in the text. It is therefore contemporary, but still a journalistic product rather than the fishermen's immediate record. [4] [5] [6]

Fig. 3. An illustrated account of the wondrous Stralsund aerial war and naval battle, Leipzig 1665. The sheet presents the flock of birds, ship formations, smoke, and city view in a labeled overview. Scan: Herzog August Library; CC BY-SA notice in the digitization. Source: [4]

The later plate in Erasmus Francisci's Der wunderreiche Überzug unserer Nider-Welt (1680) made the disk shape more visually explicit and influenced modern UFO reception. The Berlin exhibition shows, however, that the disk is by no means stable across the transmission: it appears differently in the 1665 sheet and is absent from some texts. A mirage of distant ships is a possible but unproven explanation; the museum's research could not identify a specific naval engagement. The media transformation is therefore established more securely than the physical cause. [5] [6]

Fig. 4. Museum detail montage based on the plate by Erasmus Francisci (1680). The aerial fleets appear at left, while the round form later made prominent above Stralsund appears in the center and at right. The color gradients and tripartite layout are elements of the modern exhibition design; the underlying engraving dates from 1680. Source: [5] [6]

5. Two Folios from the Augsburg Book of Miracles

5.1 The Alleged Event of 1009

Folio 35 shows a darkened Sun, a blood-red Moon, and a burning column- or tower-like torch said to have fallen from the sky with a great crash; death and famine in Germany and Italy allegedly followed. The image was made around 1552, approximately 543 years after the claimed event. Its great value lies in the early modern visualization of older chronicle material. As evidence of what physically occurred in 1009, it is a very late secondary or tertiary transmission. [7] [8]

Fig. 5. Augsburg Book of Miracles, folio 35, around 1552: a retrospective depiction of a celestial sign attributed to the year 1009. The caption links a dark Sun, red Moon, earthquake, and falling fiery torch with later catastrophes. Reproduction of a public-domain work. Source: [8]

5.2 The 'Golden Ball' and the Dating Problem

The folio bears the date 73 BCE and shows a golden sphere in several positions above a landscape. Its textual motif, however, closely matches Julius Obsequens, Liber Prodigiorum 54: in the consular section dated to 91 BCE, a golden-colored fireball is described in the territory of Spoletium, rolling down toward the ground, moving eastward, and covering the Sun. The discrepancy in date and the roughly fifteen-hundred-year chain of transmission show why the image cannot count as an independent ancient observation. It is an early modern image of an ancient textual tradition. [7] [9] [10] [11]

Fig. 6. Augsburg Book of Miracles, 'Golden Ball,' around 1552. Three positions of the same sphere can be read as a sequence of motion. The printed or written date of 73 BCE does not match the corresponding consular section in Julius Obsequens. Reproduction of a public-domain work. Source: [9] [10]

Chain of transmission  Ancient prodigy text -> early modern compilation -> modern digitization -> present-day UAP interpretation. Each step may add selection, shifts in dating, and a new visual vocabulary. [7] [10] [11]

6. Further Comparable Broadsheets, Texts, and Works of Art

6.1 Plech 1554: Celestial Battle as Military Visual Language

Thiebold Berger's sheet reports an apparition seen near Plech on 11 June 1554. Two mounted armies fight in the sky; below lie a fallen man and dead horses. Even if an optical or astronomical trigger is assumed, the specific battle scene is a cultural translation. It shows that 'battle in the sky' was already available as an established reading before Nuremberg and Basel. [15]

Fig. 8. Thiebold Berger, Vision or Sign at Plech, 1554. The apparition is narrated as a complete mounted battle. Digitization with color and scale reference; Public Domain Mark. Source: [15]

6.2 A Wave of Prints in 1561

The sheets concerning Mansfeld/Eisleben (27 February) and Emskirchen (4 March) appeared only weeks before Glaser's Nuremberg print. Taken together, they do not automatically constitute one connected large-scale physical event, but they do reveal a dense culture of news and imagery. Celestial forms, military symbolism, personified heavenly bodies, and local urban spaces could rapidly be translated into related print formulas. [16] [17] [1]

Fig. 9. Two further broadsheets of celestial signs from 1561: (a) Mansfeld/Eisleben; (b) Emskirchen. The comparison makes both their temporal proximity and the variety of visual solutions apparent. Digitizations: Zurich Central Library; Public Domain Mark. Source: [16] [17]

6.3 Schwerin 1628 and Mittelfischach 1667

The Schwerin sheet names a duke and 'many hundreds of persons' as observers. The library catalog explicitly indexes the apparition under parhelia and rainbow. The Mittelfischach sheet, by contrast, shows a broad apparition spread across a landscape. Both cases demonstrate how readily circular, arched, and ray-like sky optics entered the language of prodigies. [18] [19]

Fig. 10. (a) Illustrated prodigy at Schwerin, 1628; (b) prodigy near Mittelfischach, 1667. The digitizations show different combinations of suns, arcs, rays, and landscape. Frankfurt University Library. Source: [18] [19]

6.4 Fire and Fireball Broadsheets of 1697: Metz, Lübeck–Mecklenburg, and Hamburg

The Metz broadsheet describes “terrible cannonading and shooting” in the sky. The Threefold Prodigy of 1697, by contrast, compiles three geographically distinct reports: a two-tailed comet observed on 4 November 1697 (Old Style) in the Lübeck district toward Mecklenburg, accompanied by a cross-shaped apparition over the Hamburg horizon; and a stillborn child described as congenitally malformed, reported in Buchholz near Annaberg. By combining these different phenomena within a single moralizing composition, the print associates celestial light, sound, warfare, bodily anomaly, and divine punishment. The accounts may preserve observations of real luminous or acoustic events, but the broadsheet reorganizes them into a theological and journalistic narrative of warning and repentance. [20] [21]

Fig. 11. Two broadsheets from 1697: (a) fire and prodigy over Metz; (b) a threefold prodigy with comet and fireball Lübeck–Mecklenburg and Hamburg: On 4 November 1697 . Frankfurt University Library. Source: [20] [21]

6.5 Hatford 1628: When a Celestial Report Leaves a Physical Trace

The English pamphlet Looke Vp and See Wonders describes light, battle-like noises, and falling stones. An observed meteorite fall at Hatford is officially recognized; the Meteoritical Bulletin Database records the year 1628 and a total mass of 29 kg. This case does not prove that other reports of battles, spheres, or disks were also meteors. It does show, however, that an early modern prodigy report can contain a real cosmic body when independent material evidence is added. [22] [3]

7. PURSUE: Archival Status and Evidentiary Value

PURSUE stands for Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters. The first release appeared on 8 May 2026; the fourth, and latest as of this study's cutoff date, appeared on 10 July 2026. The portal includes declassified recent cases as well as historical documents. 'Newly released' must therefore not be confused with 'new event.' The 1949 Los Alamos file is the clearest example. [26] [27] [28] [33]

Release Publication Relevance to this study
Release 01 8 May 2026 Initial publication, including the Western U.S. slides and the FBI memorandum.
Release 02 22 May 2026 ODNI first-person narrative by a senior intelligence official.
Release 03 12 June 2026 AARO update with a partial attribution of the Western U.S. case.
Release 04 10 July 2026 Historical Los Alamos file and new IR-video cases.

Release dates according to the official PURSUE portal. [26] [28]

The portal defines the archived materials as unresolved cases for which no definitive determination can be made. It expressly identifies insufficient data as one possible reason. This statement is methodologically more important than any spectacular individual description: it marks the limit of the available record. [26]

8. The PURSUE Cases with the Closest Motif Parallels

8.1 Western U.S., October 2023: 'Orbs Launching Orbs'

The initial slides report that six federal personnel, working in three two-person teams, saw orange 'parent orbs' at dusk on two days, with two to four red lights emerging from each. The pattern allegedly repeated at least five times, and no sound was noticed. Yet the initial file already identifies a central deficit: no photographs, videos, or other technical data were collected for the orb event. [29] [30]

Fig. 12. First PURSUE slide on the Western U.S. event. It documents a summarized witness account, not an image of the reported orbs. The visualizations in later slides are expressly reconstructions or artists' renderings. Source: [29]

AARO's update of 5 June 2026 is analytically much stronger. AARO compared narrative accounts with flight logs, radar, ADS-B, and training data. Its conclusion was that approximately 60 percent of the reported activity is plausibly consistent with specialized military IR countermeasure flares. No matching known flight activity was found for roughly 40 percent; moreover, a red light allegedly remaining stationary for hours would be inconsistent with the burn time and descent rate of known flares. AARO therefore lists 'unrecognized technology' as a preliminary hypothesis based on elimination, but stresses that it rests entirely on narrative testimony and is supported by neither technical data nor physical evidence. [30]

Fig. 13. Excerpts from the AARO analysis update: above, the partly plausible flare attribution and 60/40 division; below, the explicit qualification of the 'Unrecognized Technology' hypothesis. The figure shows the crucial difference between an unresolved remainder and positive evidence. Source: [30]

8.2 ODNI First-Person Narrative, Late 2025

A first-person account by a senior member of the U.S. Intelligence Community, published in Release 02, describes observations with the unaided eye, night vision, FLIR, and reported radar indications. It mentions an object splitting apart, 'countless' orange orbs, two large oval lights, a T formation, and lights above fighter jets. The release, however, includes neither raw data from the cited sensors nor images of the event. Scientifically, it is therefore a detailed, officially archived testimony, but not a verified multisensor analysis. [31]

8.3 FBI Memorandum, September 2023: Metallic 'Cigar' Object

The redacted FBI memorandum describes a bronze-colored, cigar-shaped apparition with an extremely bright ring-like light, approximately two to three Black Hawk lengths in size, silent, nearly hovering, and gone after five to ten seconds. Two people reportedly saw it; no images were taken. The form also states that the memorandum contains neither FBI recommendations nor conclusions. It therefore documents a recorded statement, not institutional confirmation of an unknown craft. [32]

8.4 Los Alamos 1949: Old File, New Release

Release 04 contains the record of a classified conference on 'Aerial Phenomena' held on 16 February 1949. Lincoln LaPaz compared green or yellow-green fireballs with conventional meteorite falls and emphasized horizontal trajectories, color, and duration. The document is valuable for the history of science because specialists discuss measurement problems, observational limits, and hypotheses. It does not, however, provide a retrospective definitive identification. Its publication in 2026 does not change the evidentiary status of the 1948/49 events. [33]

8.5 PR104 and PR115: Sensor Images Are Not Self-Explanatory Object Portraits

In a 2025 IR video over the Yellow Sea, PR104 shows a contrast area that the official description likens to a six-pointed star. AARO explicitly cautions that this description should not be read as an analytic judgment, investigative conclusion, or statement of fact. The shape on the display is therefore, first of all, a shape in a sensor-data product. [34]

PR115 is particularly important as a methodological control case. In the eight-second IR video from 2019, a contrast area flickers and at times blends into the background. AARO explains that an object at a temperature similar to its surroundings may appear to flicker or disappear because of dynamic contrast adjustment and auto-gain. An apparent change of form or disappearance should therefore not be interpreted as a physical transformation without sensor analysis. [35]

9. Comparison: What Is Similar - and What Is Not

The formal similarities are real, but initially they exist at the level of description. Both groups of sources contain spheres, swarms, formations, rods or cigars, disks, fire, apparent emergence, and disappearance. The following comparison reduces the cases to the smallest common observational statement while identifying the missing information required for physical identification.

Motif Historical examples PURSUE examples Scientific limit
Spheres / orbs Basel 1566; Nuremberg 1561; Golden Ball Western U.S.; ODNI narrative The same verbal form reveals nothing about distance, size, material, or cause.
Swarm / battle Plech; Nuremberg; Basel; Stralsund ODNI swarm; repeated groups of orbs Ordered motion may be produced physically, perspectivally, or narratively.
Rod / cigar Nuremberg tubes and black spear FBI-'cigar' Without distance and orientation data, projection into a three-dimensional form is uncertain.
Disk Stralsund, especially 1680 No equally strong case in the selected PURSUE corpus The Stralsund disk changes within the transmission itself.
Fire / fall Augsburg 1009; Metz; fireball 1697; Hatford Los Alamos fireballs Meteors are possible and materially documented at Hatford, but are not a universal explanation.
Disappearance Spheres dissolve; ships disappear FBI; ODNI; PR115 PR115: auto-gain can alter visibility; historical media compress events narratively.

Comparison of motifs documented in the figures and primary texts. [1] [2] [4] [9] [20] [21] [29] [31] [32] [33] [35]

10. The Evidence-Based Consensus Supported by This Corpus

1  Securely established  For centuries, people and institutions have described unusual celestial apparitions and represented them in recurring forms. The historical prints and modern files are genuine artifacts of this transmission. [1] [2] [4] [26]

2  Well supported  Several motif classes have known natural, technological, or sensor-based counterparts. Stockholm, Hatford, the flare correlation, and PR115 provide specific controls. [14] [22] [30] [35]

3  Unresolved  Some reports cannot be determined conclusively because data are missing or unpublished. 'Unresolved' is a state of the evidence, not a distinct class of object. [26] [30] [36]

4  Not established  The material examined provides no evidence of extraterrestrial origin, non-human beings, recovered foreign technology, or the bestowal of technology on humans. NASA states that there is no evidence that UAP are extraterrestrial and that the limited number of high-quality observations currently prevents scientific conclusions about the nature of many cases. [36]

The most cautious overall conclusion is therefore that there is continuity in motifs of perception and representation, but no demonstrated continuity of a single physical cause. To infer the same technological object from sphere-like forms spanning two thousand years is to skip precisely the steps that source criticism and natural science must test. [7] [10] [30] [36]

11. Limitations of the Study

First, the historical corpus is a representative selection rather than a globally complete collection. Second, most early modern reports do not permit weather, viewing geometry, duration, and observer position to be reconstructed with modern precision. Third, images are not raw recordings; PURSUE also sometimes releases only narratives, redacted memoranda, or brief sensor excerpts with little context. Fourth, future PURSUE releases or additional raw data may change these assessments. All statements therefore apply to the source record available as of 20 July 2026. [24] [25] [26] [28]

12. Conclusion

Nuremberg 1561, Basel 1566, and Stralsund 1665 show how unusual celestial phenomena were depicted as battles, spheres, rods, disks, and divine warnings. The Augsburg folios and comparative cases also reveal problems of transmission and demonstrate that natural phenomena and meteorite falls entered the same visual tradition. [1] [2] [4] [7] [8] [9] [14] [22]

PURSUE adds declassified records, flight and radar data, and sensor footage. Some cases have partial explanations, such as military flares, while others remain unresolved. Across the centuries, recurring motifs are evident, but their physical causes cannot yet be identified conclusively. [26] [30] [34] [35] [36]

Historical On January 20, 2011, a cyberattack was carried out against the Argentine Air Force’s official website, alleging that the institution covered up the crash of an alien spacecraft and its occupants in 1985

The text directly accused the institution of covering up the crash of a cigar-shaped crewed object on January 26, 1985, in the Papagayos area of Mendoza Province. The message included a transcript of testimony from an alleged corporal of the National Gendarmerie who claimed to have participated in the containment operations.

The message concluded by accusing the Argentine Air Force of actively collaborating with the United States Air Force (USAF) to spread disinformation and conceal the presence of extraterrestrials on Argentine territory.

On May 6, 2011, four months after these allegations were made, the Air Force established the Commission for the Study of Aerospace Phenomena (CEFAE), an official agency (now reorganized as the Center for Aerospace Identification) tasked with receiving, technically analyzing, and officially responding to citizen reports of unidentified flying object sightings in the country.
