DISCUSSION Smallville Subreddit Update - Start of 2026

Hey Smallville Peeps,

Hope you had an amazing festive period and great start to 2026!

In our last post we mentioned this:

Any posts moving forwards talking about how there's more Lana favouritism or more Lois favouritism in the sub, purely to rile up drama, will be removed and the user will be banned for a set period of time.

Off the back of that update, unfortunately it's gotten a bit out of hand with the Clana and Clois shipping so for the time being we will have to remove all bad-faith posts that are talking about shipping for these two characters (and others where necessary) - sorry but for now this is sadly the direction we have to take. Please feel free to report any posts you see that cross this threshold and we will investigate and where appropriate - take action - there is a new rule at number 10 to help you report this type of shipping.

Finally its our usual plug for the Discord :-)

Invite Link:

https://discord.gg/w4mbRZyy8C

Roughly 400 people in there now - the more people that join the more we can talk about Smallville!

Thanks for being awesome - we appreciate all of you!

DISCUSSION One of the little unspoken details I can't get over is that Alicia can TELEPORT, but after their date Clark still drove her home.

Post image
166 Upvotes

Honestly I have a soft spot for every time Clark dates a girl-of-the-week who knows his secret. It's nice seeing him be fully open and comfortable with a girl, and Alicia was especially nice because it was the first time he dated a metahuman and also knew her secret in turn.

It was such a shame she turned out to be so completely unstable. I mean, I get full well that they could never be together long-term, but I wish the way they chose to restore status quo gave us a little more time with Alicia and Clark just being two wholesome superhuman sweethearts.

I mean, how cute is it that Alicia can teleport anything and anyone she wants, anywhere she wants, but on her date with Clark, she just wants to be a normal girl whose boyfriend drives her home?

QUESTION How did clark get to korea and europe and all over the world?

Upvotes

How did this guy get to places outside of the americas if he couldn't fly? It happened a lot of times where he went to europe and asia. In the last season he says super casual that there was a fire in Korea. How did he get there?? He couldn't fly and I don't think he was fast enough to run over the entire pacific or atlantic ocean

"Erica is stunningly beautiful. She’s clearly a different vibe to Lana. She’s very sophisticated and very funny and sassy, energetic and urban. Clark and Erica together, they shot their first scene today and it’s just awesome, the chemistry. So it’s going to be really exciting to see that relationship." ~ Miles Millar, Smallville Co-Creator and Show runner, SCIFI Weekly 2004

For such a small town the crime rate there was probably the worst crime rate in the country.. which would beg the question why would anyone want to live there? It’s worse than Chicago and New York City combined..

Despite how overpowered the character is, why is it that he can easily lose his powers to something as small as kryptonite and a little electricity?

DISCUSSION Watching for the first time - Lex is kinda valid Spoiler

Upvotes

I have not been on reddit a lot but I NEED to talk to someone about this, I initially always thought Lex Luthor was just "some bad guy" in the Superman universe. I'm watching Smallville for the first time and I'm on season 3...I think Lex's decent into becoming a villain is very valid, his dad and best friend are constantly gaslighting him and denying any real version of events he goes through, it would make anyone go a bit coo-coo banana's. Also he has grown up on conditional love from his father, he only gets acknowledgement when he bends to what Lionel wants or when he does something as equally morally wrong as his dad. His whole self worth is based on achievement and intellect, never loved for who he is as a person and only the outcomes he produces. I think at his core his main trait is obviously very fierce loyalty but when he learns this does not necessarily propel him into anything positive, that's when he starts to question his world view and go on the decline into madness. just a thought :)

DISCUSSION 1989 Smallville Meteor Shower

Is it possible the meteor shower in 1989 that brought Clark wasn’t the first one. I just watched the episode with Chrissy parker the girl with the ability to drain the age from her victims dating back to the 1920’s with no reasoning to how she got her powers and I have a theory. Later in the series we get the flashback episode of Jor-El sent to earth in the 60’s by his father for a sort of coming of age tradition and dax ur was also on earth originally experimenting with the effects meteor rocks had under the yellow sun meaning kryptonians had been coming to earth for a while. My theory is that either there was a meteor shower before 1989 that produced kryptonite that gave Chrissy her powers in the 20’s that was just never recorded due to not being as big as the 89 shower or being so long ago they didn’t see the need to record the event or maybe dax ur wasn’t the first scientist experimenting under the yellow sun with meteor rocks and either Chrissy got exposed to meteors or a not so friendly scientist performed an experiment on her giving her the abilities she had sort of how the kandorians experimented in season 9 trying to get their powers

DISCUSSION The tragedy of Lex 🥀

Maybe the real tragedy of Smallville isn’t that Lex Luthor became the villain. It’s that, for a while, he genuinely wanted to be a better person. He grew up without love, with a father who saw manipulation as parenting. The one friendship that gave him hope slowly fell apart under the weight of secrets and mistrust. Lex made his own choices, and he has to own them. But it’s hard not to wonder who he could’ve been if someone had trusted him just a little more. Some people aren’t born villains. Sometimes they’re shaped into them, one disappointment at a time🥀

DISCUSSION Is Clark an Avoidant?

Just by nature of him being 1 of 1? His whole existence cannot be understood, truly, which is why he is partial to Zod’s “brotherhood” offer in S9.

Of course he had wonderful parents who did their best, but I can see how the circumstances may mimic similar wounds or behaviors of a fearful avoidant, if kryptonians can have attachment issues.

In later seasons he realizes he’s not alone but i can imagine, dating him must feel like dating a fearful avoidant.

He both craves and fears intimacy and closeness. Which is why Lois is so great for him, she’s stable and communicates clearly.

Currently watching season 9- no spoilers please- and I love the concept of her almost dating Clark fully in theory having both sides of him at one point - and only one side of him isn’t enough for her.

>!She understands inherently why he can’t share his secret, at this point, I don’t think he’s scared to share his secret, he’s scared for her safety knowing the information.!<

>! One thing I didn’t like is how she treated him after they get fired from the DP, and doesn’t like the “jealous” side of him, when really, she’s in love with another man. She sort of makes up for it at the end of that same episode, saying “you don’t have to be ok with it” and “I shouldn’t ask that of you” - but not apologizing for it, or her treatment of him bc of it. It makes me sad for Clark. Then I realize that he’s in this situation because of himself. Then I realize he doesn’t have much choice otherwise. Then I realize she’d understand and does understand. Then I wonder if he’d be ok with it if he weren’t the blur. Anyway, I really liked that concept this season (one of the only things). Writers for the win.!<

I know Clark gets a lot of heat, and he’s not perfect, but this post isn’t meant to be an attack on him. I’m a Clark fan. Just trying to picture what it would be like for a mere human to date him and having some conversations with you guys!

If you’ve dated an avoidant man, you know.

**edit for those who don’t know what an FA is: “Fearful avoidant attachment (or disorganized attachment) is characterized by a "push-pull" dynamic, where an intense desire for intimacy clashes with a deep fear of rejection or vulnerability. Key signs include hot-and-cold behavior, severe trust issues, emotional volatility, high anxiety, and a negative view of both self and others.” Read more in depth about it: https://www.attachmentproject.com/blog/fearful-avoidant-attachment-style/

Smallville | S06E21 "Prototype"

Rating: 8.0/10

So Lex really and truly has, in the words of Sam and Dean Winchester, 'gone fully Darkside'. Everything he's done this season has come to full fruition, and the things he's done to get here are nothing short of actual war crimes.

The inciting incident that sparks this whole episode is fundamentally more violent than anything we've seen so far. Some of the episodes have been more gory and/or weird, but this one was surprisingly frank and stark.

Erica's scenes with Tahmoh are great. She shows a lot of real emotion here, and however impossible it may be, so does Tahmoh, even when he shouldn't be having any emotions at all. Like I said, I'm a fan.

Things resolve the way they resolve, but one of the coolest things is Martha Kent Goes To Washington.

DISCUSSION Impressed by how much I have liked Smallville and its development through each season Spoiler

Didn’t really know how to describe this post but honestly just needed to express this.

I started watching Smallville just to have something on in the background while I was doing other stuff as a bit of an easy watch, plus, it has so many eps per season (I love a good 2000s show).

As I carried on watching the series through the seasons it seemed to just get better (I’ve just started S5). I did see online people favouring the later seasons which is strange for a series as usually seasons get worse as the series’ go on, but I really see why. I love Lois’ character and I am amazed at how drawn out but well done the storylines are. Watching the characters find out Clark’s secret is also amazing, it kind of annoyed me at first when Clark didn’t tell his close friends other than Pete, but watching Chloe and Clarke at the start of S5 and there interaction, it was such a slow burn and made it all so worth it.

Anyway I just wanted to share how I felt. Maybe it’s the emotions of me finishing the fourth season, but I genuinely am so impressed. Didn’t think I’d be this infatuated with the series to be honest.

DISCUSSION Smallville characters and letterboxd....

This is a bit niche but I love the show Smallville and I also love using the app Letterboxd. So I was wondering if the Smallville characters had letterboxd, what would their top 4 be? I'm mainly asking for Clark and Lois's, but you can add Oliver's, Lana's, hell even Lionel's. I'm just a bored curious person lol.

I really don't like Chloe and Oliver together. But I don't really like Chloe from season 8 onwards to begin with so that could have something to do with it.

Jimmy and Chloe should've stayed together and Jimmy shouldn't have died.

DISCUSSION I just finished Smallville!

I started watching this show back in May. I decided to give it a try mainly because of the cast and I was hooked. I was on binge-marathons when I was watching up-to 12 episodes a day. No other show has given me that comfort and entertainment. I did have many days where the highlight of the day was only Smallville and some days when I was away from it but I finished it, after a little over two months. I am not sure if I will find something that lives up to this show but I am open to suggestions.

Edit: It gave me a much greater insight into the Clark Kent / Superman lore, as I was pretty much clueless prior to watching Smallville.

DISCUSSION I Just Finished Smallville

I know a lot of posts in this subreddit have this title but it’s because it’s clear and to the point. To be clear, I am not talking about a rewatch. I went in not quite blind since I had heard things about Smallville before I started watching it but I had never watched an actual episode before this watch. Yesterday, I watched the series finale of Smallville and (honestly) I found it to be an anti-climax. That said, I did like the show as whole with one major caveat. That caveat is the execrable Chloe Sullivan being treated by the narrative as if she were not execrable. That said, I suppose I should go in order.

When I watched the pilot episode, I didn’t care for it and then I wondered how the show got so popular that it lasted for ten seasons. I looked it up, discovered this subreddit, and learned that the consensus was the show improved with time (which I can now say is an accurate assessment) and that Michael Rosenbaum’s Lex was the best character (which I could tell was the case from the pilot.) After that, I watched the second episode. I’m no expert but it seemed to me as if it were homaging the Spider-Man: Rise of the Thousand comic (with its villain). I definitely didn’t like the episode’s villain. That said, I quite liked Lex’s B-plot and I liked it when Clark saved discount Flash Thompson. (I genuinely like the show but Whitney always seemed to be a discount version of Flash Thompson from Spider-Man. Then again, some modern adaptations of Flash Thompson are as well.) I liked the episode as a whole but the third episode was the first time that I liked both the episode and its villain. (It’s also when I started wondering if Clark would save a different person every episode. The short answer is no but because I was keeping track, the first few times Clark questioned if he were really making a difference as a hero, I could easily list and name the people he had saved proving that yes, he was making a real difference as a hero.)

After that, the shape-shifter framing Lex for bank robbery was a pretty good episode. The Sean Kelvin episode sort of reminded me that this was exactly the kind of show Danny Phantom was spoofing and the fortune teller episode was really good. As was the Ryan episode. And the episode with criminals walking through walls. That said, it was the Sam Phelan episode which let me know how good the show could be. The Season One finale left me quite excited for what was coming.

After that, I liked all the season finales except for the Season Eight finale and the Season Ten finale (though the Season Ten finale was still infinitely better than the Season Eight finale.)

Clark is a likeable and heroic character (though he’s way too forgiving of people, including Lex Luthor, Lionel Luthor, Chloe Sullivan, and Tess Mercer.)

Now that I’ve mentioned it, Rosenbaum’s performance as Lex Luthor might number amongst the greatest of them all. Before he turned evil, he was my favourite character and after he turned evil, he was still my favourite character. Lionel Luthor was an excellent villain since the beginning. (That’s not surprising. John Glover was great as Dyson in Tron: Uprising.)

I liked Jonathan Kent since the beginning. Yes, he was too quick to hate Lex but he was also entirely right about Lionel and he didn’t at any point shrug off bad behaviour by saying “that wasn’t me” or “I was doing it to protect Clark”. He actually knows how to take responsibility. (Also, after Lex hired robbers to break into Lionel’s vault and nearly got Martha killed and Jonathan correctly deduced that something like that had happened, Jonathan was justified in hating Lex as well even if he weren’t initially.) I liked Martha Kent until she started making excuses for Lionel Luthor so I was relieved when that storyline ended. I didn’t have a problem with her becoming the Red Queen though I do think we needed more on-screen development to keep that from seeming out of nowhere.

I actually liked Lana Lang, I know a lot of people didn’t but I did. All her objections to Clark made sense if you didn’t know his secret and honestly, him running away to Metropolis, getting on drugs and joining Morgan Edge’s gang was a good reason for her to reject him with or without the sci-fi explanation of it being Red Kryptonite. It honestly raises questions that she was willing to take him back but then again she married Lex so it’s not like it’s out of character for her. I didn’t have a problem with her returning in Season Eight for an episode providing closure to her and Clark’s relationship but her being permanently infected with Kryptonite was far too contrived an explanation for their relationship ending.

I liked Pete Ross though he was underused. Jimmy Olsen was also a great character and I loved the charm he brought to the show before Chloe betrayed him and got him murdered and faced zero real consequences for it. Having it revealed that it’s actually his little brother who is the Jimmy Olsen we know from other versions of the Superman was a terrible narrative decision. It’s in the same category as when Gotham (spoiler alert if you haven’t seen Gotham), killed off the character who was obviously supposed to be The Joker and had his long lost twin become The Joker instead.

This version of Lois Lane was a character that I disliked at the beginning but who grew on me by Season Nine (and for that matter Season Ten.) Green Arrow, in his earliest episodes was actually a terribly written character but was somehow improved by Season Eight and that’s the only good thing you’ll hear me say about Season Eight. That’s it.

Lex killing Lionel was darkly satisfying because after all the horrific things Lionel had done (to Lex and everyone else) it was good that someone finally sent him to Hell. I don’t blame the writers of Season Ten for using multiverse shenanigans to bring back Lionel (given how underwhelming the post-Luthor antagonists were) but Season Ten really underused him. The final confrontation between Clark and (the real) Lex in the Season Seven finale might well be my favourite scene in the entire show and it was really good.

Tess Mercer was so underwhelming a villain that the writers really had killing her off to make way for a new villain or redeeming her as their only choices. They went with the latter which was fine but kind of rushed. I hated Davis Bloome so much that I honestly thought I should invoke the Thanos “perhaps I treated you too harshly” meme about Batman vs Superman. (It didn’t help that Davis Bloome never gave me a reason to think he was substantively better than Doomsday even before turning against Chloe or that practically everything he said and did was a red flag.)

Zod was actually a really good villain (though Darkseid wasn’t, he was underwhelming.) I actually did like what the show did with the other superheroes except Aquaman (I really don’t like this version of Aquaman). My detestation of Chloe could not be summarized briefly enough to fit this review so suffice it to say that Clark trusting Chloe is like a frog trusting a scorpion not to sting it when it takes the scorpion across the river.

And now, I’m going to comment on the controversy. Yes, the show definitely suffered from the no tights, no flights rule. Even the finale didn’t have Clark actually call himself Superman or answer to Superman, it just had Chloe mention at the end that he became known as Superman. I did like the Ultra-Man character though I wonder why his name is still Clark if Clark were supposed to be named after Martha’s maiden name (as established earlier in the show.) It’s possible there’s an explanation in the comics but I’ve not looked it up.

(Brainiac was a good villain but overstayed his welcome with the whole Chloe story and Bizarro was serviceable as an antagonist but nothing to write home about.)

So, what do I think about the show as a whole. I think it’s a decent show. Do I think it’s one of the greatest shows I’ve ever seen in my life? No, I don’t but it was definitely worth watching.

That’s my full series review of Smallville

Smallville | S06E20 "Noir"

I do love noir, though if I'm being fully honest, neo-noir is more my schtick.

It's one of my favorite things in the world. The fast talking, the clothes, the music, the whole entire vibe is one of the greatest eras of filmmaking in the world.

That being said, watching the entire gang play alternate 1940s stylized versions of themselves in this crime riddled caper is a blast. Everyone involved must've had a high old time taking a break from their normal routines, especially Tom, Michael, Erica and Kristin who, by this point, were pretty much locked into their various 'types'.

One of the coolest things, and it might seem silly, is the way everyone pulls their guns. It's absolutely pitch perfect, how they just swing the gun up, the camera focuses on it, all of it.

I was worried we weren't going to get a lot of major story beats, but the team doles out a whole bunch of big moves in the last 10 minutes, and it was great.

DISCUSSION Smallville’s usage of Loch Lomond?

In s7 e19 it plays an instrumentation of Loch Lomond when Lex puts the clock thingy together.
Just wondering if any Scottish smallville fans picked up on this.
