I was always the least good skater in our group, so that’s why I took up photography. After at least a 15 year skating hiatus, I have been getting back into both skating and photos. Here are a few selfies [sort of]. I set everything up and had my 10 and 11 year old kids snap the photos. It felt important to document I could do a few tricks before my body gives out.

Personally, I think the unspoken rule of not doing the same trick at the same spot as another skater for a video clip is outdated. I like seeing someone else do the same thing, comparing styles, weighing in on whose was better.

Most of the time that we get to compare the same trick at the same spot, it’s incidental cause somebody didn’t know it had been done. My perception is that it’s kind of taken as disrespect to fill the same trick at the same spot and I get that they’re are essentially limitless spots and variations. I understand people want to be creative and come up with their own trick and while the ethos of the nbd rule is in the air people might hesitate to step on someone’s toes.

I’d like to see that shift thought, for it to be almost common for people too replicate tricks. For one thing, I think it would push people to really clean up their tricks and not let so many tic tacks or toe drags through the final edit.

Just a random end of the work day thought,
Coming from a 36 year old who’s happy to stick flat ground kick flips and 180s, some slappys, and maybe a rock and roll if I’m feeling saucey. (Meaning everything I do has been done a million times over.)
